Playing at Ladbrokes with New Zealand Dollars (NZD) may incur currency conversion fees, as the sportsbook operates using Australian Dollars (AUD).

When depositing or withdrawing from your account, the exchange rate is based on real-time market conditions and applied to reflect the current value of both currencies. Expert verdict

The Ladbrokes betting site has been around for years. In fact, it’s one of the oldest online bookmakers. This means that it really does know exactly what it’s doing when it comes to appealing to sports bettors the world over.

To that end, there are many different sports markets on offer, all of which can be accessed through a comprehensive and simple, sports menu. Sports events are alphabetised, making it even easier to find the right sport.

The sports betting site is also home to some good odds, though these days, even their min odds don’t always stand up to those of their competitors. As such, shopping around is a good idea if you’re looking for more competitive odds.

In terms of the mobile betting platform, this is excellent. It’s available for all devices. Finally, Ladbrokes really excels when it comes to player safety and security, offering strong encryption and a variety of responsible gambling tools. An excellent support service rounds this out.

Ladbrokes NZ betting bonuses

Bonuses are one of the top attractions for betting online. A good bonus like free bets is the perfect way to kick off any sports betting. And this goes for all types of wagering, from Ladbrokes football betting to horse racing. We also put this first, as this is the top feature you should look for.

For Ladbrokes, things do start off pretty well. Players can choose between two different welcome offers. One gives you a 100% match deposit up to AU$250, while the other is a deposit $50 and bet with AU$150.

On top of that, there are numerous Ladbrokes free bets on offer, as well as odds, boost options on a daily and weekly basis. Additionally, you can also make the most of a loyalty programme if you’re planning on sticking around.

One of the great things here is that you can also claim the bonuses across all platforms, as the Ladbrokes mobile platform has the same betting bonuses as the desktop site.

Bonus rating

81/100 Two different welcome bonuses on offer
  • Attractive welcome offer
  • Boosted odds on offer
  • Info after logging in

Regarding Ladbrokes online betting bonuses, there’s a lot to say here. I was impressed that there are two bonuses on offer, though you need to pick which one to use. You don’t need a promo code, though.

However, it was somewhat irritating that I had to create an account and log in to see what Ladbrokes promotions were available. I’d much prefer the more transparent option of Bet365, which lists all options.

Further, it was very unclear what the wagering requirements were when claiming the bonus at the other end. However, after some digging, I discovered that youd’d need to turn over your deposit amount before withdrawal, similarly to what we can see at PlayUp.

Other Ladbrokes promotions were less obvious again. For instance, any odds boost to depend on what you’ve been doing as a player, which I don’t want to see from a sportsbook of Ladbroke’s calibre.

Ladbrokes betting: markets and sports

After the slightly lacklustre start surrounding the Ladbrokes sign-up bonus, this is where the sportsbook comes into its own. And if there is one section where a sportsbook should shine, it’s here.

As you might expect, Ladbrokes has one of the largest betting markets, with 28 different sports on offer. Additionally, many of these are popular Australian or Kiwi sports, which is good news.

On top of that, there are many entertainment betting options, including the Oscars and Sports Personality of the Year. And you can even bet on politics if that’s your thing.

Impressively, this sportsbook has an extensive esports betting section too. However, there are some smaller, less common sports missing, and we’re going to take a look at those later in this Ladbrokes sports review.

Sports & markets rating

87/100 Huge selection of sports available
  • Range of popular sports
  • Numerous betting options for horse racing
  • Good range of novelty markets
  • No niche sports

I was impressed by the selection of sports available at Ladbrokes. With 28 sports, this is one of the more well-rounded options. Sportsbet, an Aussie-owned site, beats this with 35 sports on offer.

Okay, so it’s got nothing on TAB sportsbook regarding horse racing, but who does? There are many racing options, including the Melbourne Cup and the ability to bet on greyhound racing.

I couldn’t give this a high rating, though, despite the 20+ betting markets on offer. And this was solely due to the lack of more unusual sports. Water polo, motor racing and so on were absent.

That being said, these aren’t found on many other sites either. And, there are novelty bets and politics to use, which is better than many other NZ betting sites.

Unsurprisingly, rugby (both league and union) features heavily here. For Kiwi players, one of the biggest competitions is Super Rugby, and when the season kicks off, you’ll find plenty of options.

Horse racing is also hugely popular on Ladbrokes and does have the added advantage of offering the Ladbrokes Easy Form to get started. With over 12 different clickable bet options such as favourite, second up, and top jockey, you’re almost spoilt for choice from the off.

Betting features at Ladbrokes

Things continue to stay top-notch when we get to the betting features at Ladbrokes too. In fact, almost all the betting features we could wish for are found right here.

Although it’s possible to cashout, you must check which bets are available for this as not all of them can be. You can also use the Bet Builder feature, which is easy to access and implement.

The fact that there is an Easy Form option is another plus and something that definitely increases usability across the board. Having additional user-friendly tools like this means the sportsbook goes above and beyond.

Betting features rating

91/100 Excellent set of betting features
  • Strong bet builder
  • Excellent Easy Form
  • Cashout available
  • No live streaming
  • Phone-only live betting

I had no choice but to give Ladbrokes some major points here, and for the most part, they do deserve it. After all, they’ve gone above and beyond to make things usable.

The Easy Form is a standout feature and perfect for beginners in sports betting for the first time. It does make it easy to place a wager, particularly for racing, and I was a big fan.

I also liked that it was possible to cash out, something that not all betting sites in NZ allow — I am looking at you, Fansbet (it only offers partial cash out).

But I was disappointed that live betting is impossible on the site unless you do so by phone. When you do get in touch, there are several live bets available. I would like to have online access, preferably with live streaming capabilities similar to those of William Hill.

Because of this, I did score the site down a notch or two, as this is something I feel should be a staple on most betting sites by now. It’s a big miss for Ladbrokes.

Additional features: when it comes to betting features, Ladbrokes more than ably has you covered. On top of the Quick Form, there’s a super easy search function and the ability to filter different betting markets within each sport to whittle down options. Essentially, Ladbrokes offers all you could want here, and it’s just missing the betting exchange found on the UK version of the site.

Ladbrokes online betting odds

As always, we looked at some of the different games taking the odds and converting them into average percentages. Sadly, this didn’t do Ladbrokes any favours.

Ideally, we want these payout percentages at around 95% and up. However, with Ladbrokes, these are decidedly low and sit at around 93.5% for most sports.

These get even lower when it comes to in-play betting, though this is typically the case with all sportsbooks. However, as the percentages were low initially, these dropped even lower.

Of course, there are odds boost options in place for some betting markets, but this doesn’t do much to mitigate the rather average odds that this sportsbook has in place.

Odds rating

88/100 Average odds though a low payout percentage
  • Average odds across all sports
  • Easy access to odds
  • Boosted odds available
  • Low payout percentages

So, if I am honest, this was a hard category for me to rate. On the one hand, Ladbrokes has a solid, consistent record regarding odds, but it’s not doing much to keep up with the competition.

Overall, the odds are decidedly average. If you want better odds, heading to PlayUp sportsbook is the way. That site is impressive, with some of the highest fixed odds.

That being said, Ladbrokes does make it easy to ensure you’re getting the latest odds available. The site refreshes automatically, so I didn’t need to do it myself.

However, the payout percentages are a huge disappointment here. At the very least, I’d expected a mid-range set of options, but 93.5% is supremely underwhelming. It’s better at almost all other sportsbooks.

To make it worse, as can be expected, the live betting percentages are even lower, though not relatively as low as the disappointing 88.97% at LeoVegas. Yes, there are odds boost promotions here at Ladbrokes, but this does little to mitigate things for me.

Payment methods

You may not think it, but it’s essential to offer a range of payment methods. It’s all about getting a choice here, so you can pick your preferred option.

Ideally, we want to see sportsbooks offering ten or more options. Ladbrokes has 8, which is a solid start and is nothing to complain about.

The most popular option is PayPal, but it’s worth noting that POLi offers some speedy payments with the Ladbrokes card, giving you some of the best withdrawal times out there.

There are no fees across any of these payment methods either, and this is a big plus. Additionally, the limits across all the payment options are excellent, with a minimum deposit and withdrawal requirement of just NZ$10. At the other end of the spectrum, you can deposit up to NZ$500,000 with EFT. This shows just how well Ladbrokes caters to all budgets.

Payments rating

80/100 Solid and secure options
  • Fee free transactions
  • Low minimum limits
  • Good mix of payment types
  • Only accepts AUD

I don’t have much that’s bad to say about Ladbrokes and its payment options. It’s all pretty standard, so my main grumble is that it could have a few more options available.

What is a standout is the fact that Ladbrokes does offer PayPal. This seems to be one of the few e-wallet options many NZ sportsbooks provide. BetVictor, for example, supports Skrill but not PayPal.

I was happy to see that there are no fees for any payment options, though. I did appreciate this. However, it is important to note that the sportsbook does change NZD to AUD, similarly to other sportsbooks such as Neds.

As I would have expected, all the deposit methods are instant. Like other sites, withdrawals are a bit slower with a top wait time of three days. However, take on the Ladbrokes card, and you get instant withdrawals, which is well worth it.

Safety features

Staying safe is a must and something we always prioritise when reviewing online sportsbooks. In fact, as a starting point, we will never review a sportsbook that isn’t licensed.

As this is the Ladbrokes AU site, the betting site is fully licensed and regulated by the Northern Territory Racing Commission. As such, it has to abide by specific rules and regulations to remain operational.

Of course, Ladbrokes knows exactly what it’s doing as it is based in the UK. The UK site is regulated by the top gaming jurisdiction — the UKGC — and maintains high standards across all its sites.

I couldn’t help but give Ladbrokes a genuinely high score here. It’s generally pretty hard to get a near-perfect score regarding security, but Ladbrokes has nearly managed it.

I usually only look for 256-bit encryption, such as that offered by bet365, but Ladbrokes far exceeds this. It has an impressive 2048-bit encryption putting it head and shoulders above the rest.

This sportsbook comes from the UK and has a strong licence background. Okay, so this one is specifically licensed in Australia, but it’s all under the same umbrella, so essentially is run by the UKGC. This puts it streets ahead of sites like MyBookie’s and its Curaçao licence.

Finally, many responsible gambling tools ensure you’re helped out every step of the way if you need it. In short, if you need to take time off, the site makes it very easy.

Customer support: three strong options

While it may often seem unnecessary to look at the support if the rest of the site works well, this is still an important area to consider.

For us, we like to see a sportsbook offer at least three different methods of support, which is exactly what Ladbrokes does. You can get in touch via phone, email or live chat.

The live chat is also available 24/7, so you can get help whenever possible. Additionally, the fact that there are two different phone lines for the various features is a bonus.

Support rating

95/100 Excellent and comprehensive support
  • 24/7 live chat
  • Two phone numbers
  • Helpful staff members
  • Guides are members-only

I have little negative to say when it comes to site support. In fact, Ladbrokes does everything I could wish for and does it well to boot.

Unlike LeoVegas Sport, live chat is available around the clock. And, when I did drop a quick message, I didn’t have to wait very long, under two minutes.

It was very easy to get in touch, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, and overall I was really pleased. Although I would have given an even higher score if I could have gotten in touch via social media, an option offered by some other sites, such as Betway.

It was also thoroughly pleasing to see two different phone numbers. Yes, one is for placing bets, but there is another direct line for customer support. Phones are often overlooked in sportsbooks these days, so this made me happy.

Ladbrokes mobile and desktop usability

Getting around a site quickly and efficiently is a must for online sportsbooks. Ladbrokes does this well by having a relatively simple, minimalistic look.

Ladbrokes sportsbook mobile screenshot

The site has an excellent red and white theme, which is nicely clutter-free. Even beginners will have no trouble finding the best bet or which are the best odds on this sports betting site.

All the sports are listed alphabetically on the left on the Ladbrokes homepage. You can even click to have the more popular options listed first. And, within each betting market, you can find various filters too.

As is becoming the norm when it comes to Ladbrokes, I really don’t have much to find fault with on this site. The usability is truly excellent.

And this is translated well to both the mobile browser version of the site as well as the betting apps. The only thing I found was the browser version isn’t quite on par with the high-quality LeoVegas mobile website. Nevertheless, you can find all the same things on the mobile platform, including odds boost options, bonus bets and more.

The Ladbrokes app for iOS or the app for Android can be downloaded via the main website. Android seems to be the general issue with many NZ sites, though, as it can’t be accessed via the Google Play store. That being said, it’s still strong, beating out 888Sport’s weak Android app with ease.

I found everything to be very intuitive too, and most features were available to the casual viewer as well. What I will say, is that the How To guides are only available to members, and I would have liked to have seen what they offered before signing up.

FAQs

Can Ladbrokes sportsbook be trusted?

Yes, Ladbrokes can definitely be trusted. The original site is based in the UK and holds a licence from the UKGC, one of the most respected jurisdictions in the sports betting industry. The Australian site, the betting platform best suited for Kiwis, is licensed by the Northern Territory Racing Commission. Additionally, the site is protected by 2048-bit encryption protocols.

Does Ladbrokes NZ pay the best odds?

Yes, Ladbrokes is known for having great odds available. However, while it has been around for the longest time, it is now suffering from a lot of competition from other sites. As such, you will sometimes find better odds elsewhere. That being said, Ladbrokes often changes its odds ensuring their daily odds are the best they can offer.

What is the maximum payout from Ladbrokes sportsbook?

Impressively, Ladbrokes has a very high maximum payout though this does depend on the different payment options available. Across the board though, you can withdraw as much as NZ$500,000. And, you can actually claim wins of even greater value than that, you’ll simply have to make the withdrawal across more transactions to claim the funds from this online bookmaker.

How does Ladbrokes pay betting winnings?

If you are lucky enough to get a win, then there are just three ways you can claim your winnings. This includes PayPal, the Ladbrokes Card or a bank transfer. You can make a claim for any winnings provided you have already played through them one time. And you can make a withdrawal request via the desktop or sports betting app.

How long does Ladbrokes sports cash out take?

This really depends on the payment method you have used. Generally, though, the turnaround time is one to three days, which isn’t the fastest option out there. However, if you use a Ladbrokes card, the withdrawal is instant. You can log in to your Ladbrokes account at any time to check the progress of your withdrawal or even cancel it.
