- Exciting betting features

- Excellent responsible tools
- Low live bet payouts
- No phone support
- No dark mode
Expert verdict
LeoVegas is an excellent sportsbook for NZ players. It offers a wealth of different betting markets that are popular with Kiwi punters including rugby, cricket and horse racing.
Additionally, the site has various bonuses and free bets on offer to keep the action going no matter whether you’re a newcomer or a returning or long-term player.
The overall look and feel of the site is excellent as the interface is easily navigable and uncluttered. It’s also got a strong mobile betting platform that has the same wagering options as the desktop site.
However, the customer support could do with being improved (preferably the addition of 24/7 support) and more live streaming options wouldn’t go amiss in an otherwise solid sportsbook.
LeoVegas sports betting bonuses
To kick things off, we’ve got the section all about bonuses right here. After all, it’s the first thing you’re going to check when playing at LeoVegas, so we’re going to cover it right away. Part of the fun of an online sportsbook is the fact that there are likely to be some great free bets and bonuses to boost your odds.
LeoVegas really helps to do just that by offering a decent welcome bonus offer giving you free bets worth up to NZ$50. Of course, you will need to make a qualifying deposit to claim it.
There isn’t much in the way of wagering requirements either, which makes this one of the better free bet bonus options out there. Especially for those new to the sports betting scene.

Additionally, LeoVegas has a number of ongoing promotions that can be found in the dropdown menu. If you plan on staying on the site as a whole, you can even join the VIP programme for more perks.
Bonus rating
- Minimal wagering requirements
- Additional bonuses
- No live betting bonuses
The LeoVegas welcome bonus is a pretty decent one, though it’s not anything super special. It’s great to get new players started, but there are other sites like Fansbet with bigger offers, though they do come with 12x wagering requirements. I will say that the low minimum and maximum wager limits for claiming this welcome bonus (NZ$10 and NZ$50, respectively) caters to the budget player.
However, this does mean that players with bigger budgets won’t enjoy it as much. But the lack of any wagering requirements to cash out winnings is a big plus, though you can’t cash out the stake, just your profits. In any event, this still beats out the complete lack of a sports welcome bonus from Sportsbet.
It is nice to see a range of other bonuses on offer too. Clicking on the promotions tab brings you to all the options. I just had to make sure to filter those promos by sport otherwise the offers for the other verticals were listed too.
Finally, I was pleased to find that claiming the bonuses was very easy. There was no beating around the bush once the eligible deposit and wager had been made.
Sports and betting markets at LeoVegas Sport
Okay, so this is one of the biggest, most important sections when it comes to choosing an online sportsbook. After all, you want to actually wager on a variety of different sports.
LeoVegas is strong in this area with 30+ sports on offer and these span a wide range of popular and less common sports and events. It’s a very nice mix.
There is an emphasis on some of the more New Zealand-orientated sports such as horse racing, rugby union and cricket, which is very good. Most of the other sports also have good representation too.

Sports & markets rating
- Good focus on NZ sporting events
- Uncommon sports available
- Slightly confusing filters
- No ice hockey
To be honest, yes, this section of the LeoVegas site is far from perfect. But, I am not going to make too much of a fuss about it.
After all, 35 sports is actually far better than some of the other sportsbooks out there. For instance, the TAB NZ site only offers wagers on horse racing and nothing else.
That being said, LeoVegas doesn’t actually excel in this area, so my advice is, if you want to wager on the horses, try sites like the aforementioned TAB, or try Betway with its best odds guarantee. However, for sports like cricket and rugby, this is the place to be.
There are numerous bets available across an enormous selection of different games, tournaments and leagues. Other popular sports include the US-based ones with the bizarre exception of ice hockey. I’m still not sure what’s up with that!
Additional market details: Rugby is one of the most popular markets for wagering on LeoVegas. This includes both rugby league and union. You can find a range of odds for all the latest tournaments for both these sports, as well as betting options for the main event, the Rugby World Cup.
Additional market details: Beating out football, cricket is another popular betting market at this online bookie. You can find a whole ton of top competitions including The Ashes, Big Bash and more. Matches and tournaments from all cricket types are available.
LeoVegas sports betting features
While LeoVegas has already been moving at a pretty above-average pace here, this section sees the ratings go even higher. Yes, betting features are something LeoVegas knows how to do.
First, there is the cashout option. This is available on a number of bets, though not all. There’s no clear or instant indicator for this, so make sure you check each wager before you place it.
The bookie also has the option to use a bet builder feature. You can do this yourself or opt to take on one of the specials where trending combos are ready and waiting to be added to your bet slip with a single click.

Unlike some of the other sites, you can also enjoy system bets where you won’t lose as much, as well as being able to wager on virtual sports. The latter can be found at the bottom of the main sportsbook page.
Betting features rating
- System bets available
- Strong bet builder
- Cashout for specific bets only
I was really impressed with the betting features found here. I will say that here, LeoVegas really is head and shoulders above the rest. Not just for the number of options, but their quality too.
I’ll kick things off with the bet builder. While 888Sport also offers a bet builder, LeoVegas makes things even easier by having a quick guide to how this works as well. This means that you can really understand the process.
For instance, if you choose football, it’s possible to build your bet with numerous individual ones that include goals, number of corners and even the goal scorers. Essentially, you can populate it with props.
I was also happy to find that it was possible to place live in play bets for most of the top sports. These bets can easily be found under the “live” tab.
The only disappointment comes when we look at live streaming. The selection is severely limited, but still wins over the likes of BetVictor where only international races are streamed.
Additional features: While parlays are very popular at online betting sites for being able to add numerous bets into one, LeoVegas also has system bets available. These bets allow you to combine more than one bet into one, but you don’t need to win all the different parts to win. Instead, you can actually win just 3 out of 5 legs and so on.
Betting odds at LeoVegas sportsbook
As we always do with the different sportsbooks and their reviews, we took a look at the LeoVegas Sports odds to see what the average percentages and payouts were.
Generally, we are looking to see if a sportsbook sits at around 95% in order to award a good score. Anything past the 97% mark is deemed excellent, while less than 93% is a concern.
Unfortunately, LeoVegas does not rank as high as we would like here with an average payout percentage of just above 93%. However, this does put it slightly above our lower limit, though a little below our preferred average.
Odds facts
Category | Details |
---|---|
Average payout | 93.78% |
Boosted odds | Yes |
Parlay boosts | Yes |
Line movement | Moderate |
The live betting percentage drops even further, though this is normal when it comes to sportsbooks. Football reigns supreme here with payouts of 95.55% for a full time result.
Odds rating
- Average payouts
- Odds match other sites
- Very low live bet payouts
Despite the rather lacklustre showing when it comes to payout percentages here, LeoVegas is still on a par with many other NZ sportsbooks. William Hill, for instance, also comes in below our preferred 95% average, scoring just above LeoVegas at 93.89%
Where LeoVegas does lose major points though is when it comes to the odds for live streaming markets. Under 88% is a shocking drop as usually I’d expect just one or two percentage points below the 93% mark. Other sites with a similar overall average, like Royal Panda, still manage a 93% average for live bets.
Despite all this, the general odds across the board are very similar to those found on other sportsbooks in NZ. You won’t have to do too much shopping around here to find that things are relatively similar.
Some sports are better than others, but this is not the case for the majority of them. As such, there is still a bit to improve here in my opinion.
Especially for New Zealanders, I should note that the odds for horse races are definitely not a strong point here. If this is your preferred sport for wagering, look at one of the specific horse race betting sites like the TAB for better odds.
Payment methods
Being able to choose from a good selection of payment methods is a great way to enjoy your online betting experience. After all, being able to use your preferred option is the best way to play.
When we rate sites, the best ones will have 10 or more payment options. LeoVegas has seven, which makes this site just above average in this area.
However, these are rather eclectic with the site offering up debit and credit card payments as well as a variety of e-wallets and prepaid options to improve this selection.

Depending on the payment method, there are different time frames for transactions. However, deposits are fee-free and instant across the board. In contrast, withdrawals can take up to 5 days, though some options do give you withdrawals within hours. There are no fees attached to withdrawals either, which is consistent across most NZ sportsbooks these days.
Payments rating
- Low minimum deposit
- No fees
- Accepts NZD
- Withdrawals can be a bit slow
I have to say that the payment options here at LeoVegas are somewhat uninspiring. There’s nothing really bad, it’s just that there aren’t that many of them, which means a lack of variety.
That being said, these are definitely more of a mix than other sites. And, even with only seven, LeoVegas is still coming in ahead of sites like PlayUp, which has only five payment methods available.
While there was some information presented on the payment options, I was rather disappointed regarding the lack of any detail. Information about minimum deposit and withdrawal limits was present, but maximums were lacking, and some of the information I found in the Help Centre was inconsistent.
Nevertheless, this is not the worst, though it meant I reduced my score here a bit.
Safety features
Without question, your safety is one of the essential things regarding any sports betting site. Because of this, we do not recommend playing at a sportsbook with no licence.
The MGA licenses LeoVegas and, as such, has some of the strictest security protocols in place. This does mean that you can expect to enjoy a secure gaming environment.
The sportsbook also has its own proprietary responsible gaming tools that are incredibly comprehensive. If you need help, this site is just a click away.

This is another solid effort from LeoVegas, so I was pleased to be able to hand out another high score. After all, this is an important area to score big.
LeoVegas ticks most of the boxes for me, but especially when it comes to responsible gaming. It’s one of the only sportsbooks that actually has its own tools. These are also made available to its sister site, Royal Panda.
Within the LeoSafePlay zone, you can learn about cooling off, self-exclusion, set bet limits, deposit limits and more. You can even access additional external resources and help lines.
Where this site does lose a few points in this LeoVegas review, is the SSL encryption. Although it offers 256-bit, this is a far cry from the impressive 2048-bit that protects the Ladbrokes sportsbook.
Customer support
Despite the top sportsbooks offering excellent betting platforms, it’s still important to see what the support is like. After all, should you run into a technical difficulty, you do need to get in touch with someone.
LeoVegas has two different methods to get in touch with staff — live chat and email. These options are available during limited hours as there is no 24/7 support provided.
However, when you do get in touch, you’re greeted promptly by friendly and helpful staff. There’s also minimal wait time when you are using the live chat during working hours.

If you’re stuck out of hours, then there is a detailed Help Centre. This does cover a lot of the main points, but many of these are still rather superficial. For detailed responses, you still need to get in touch directly.
Support rating
- Live chat available
- Good help centre
- No phone support
- Limited operating hours
I was pleased to see a solid effort here from LeoVegas Sports. The site may only have two contact options, which is a lot lower than some other sites, but they work well. That being said, other NZ sportsbooks, like Neds, offer a phone line, and I would have liked to see that as an option here too.
However, an even bigger downside for me here is the fact that there is no 24/7 support. bet365 can offer round-the-clock help, so why can’t LeoVegas?
I will also say that the Help section was a little disappointing. While some of the questions were answered, I was constantly left wanting more. For instance, there was never quite enough information given for payments.
However, LeoVegas did offer a delightful section on the different types of bets, top sports and tournaments on the main sportsbook page. And this was something I really loved which definitely bumped this score up a bit!
LeoVegas betting platform and usability
It’s all very well for a sportsbook to have many sports and bonuses, but if the layout is complex, it’s all for nothing. To that end, we always look at the platform’s usability as a whole.
LeoVegas has a straightforward orange-and-white interface, which works just as easily on the LeoVegas NZ casino site. It’s easy to find all the different areas thanks to convenient menus and drop-down lists. Nothing is too cluttered, either.

When looking at the sports, these are provided in an alphabetised list alongside several additional filters such as country or tournament type. That way, you can find the exact bet you want.

Platform rating
- Excellent app
- Clear menus
- Intuitive design
- Some pages are text heavy
I actually really do love the LeoVegas Sports look and feel. It’s very easy to see thanks to the clear colour scheme. And, I wasn’t spending hours searching for a feature, everything was where I expected it to be. However, occasionally those swathes of white did leave me longing for a dark mode like the one at MyBookie.
Impressively, I found this to be the case across all areas of the betting platform. Not only does the mobile browser site match the desktop, but the mobile betting app does as well.
The LeoVegas mobile app also offers the same features and functions as the desktop allowing me to check out the different live betting options and place real money bets with ease. This was the case for both the iOS and Android app, thus beating out 888Sport, which has a rather weak Android app in place.
Everything loaded well for me too, so I wasn’t put out by any annoying lag times when it came to playing. In short, I am happy to conclude this LeoVegas review with some pretty positive news!
