William Hill sports review for New Zealand: 2024

This isn’t an area where the site scores well, but it’s not a total loss. Unlike Sportsbet (don’t get me started on that site), William Hill does have a small free bet welcome offer for new NZ players but there are a lot of caveats attached. First, a relatively modest $10 first wager is needed to claim the welcome bonus of two free $15 bets.

Sounds good so far, but those dollars must be US not NZ! However, all is not lost. Luckily, the William Hill sportsbook is significantly classier than Sportsbet and cares about its players. To that end, NZ players can enjoy a series of enhanced odds throughout the year.

I was also delighted to find that there was a Scratch of the Day option where you can scratch six sections to reveal prizes. These can include odds boosts and even free bets, which was a truly nice surprise.

In short, after a rocky start, William Hill does pull things up a bit. In fact, another big plus is the lack of wagering requirements on that welcome offer, which puts FansBet’s 12x rollover to shame. Nevertheless, those other restrictions on the welcome offer hit hard. So, I couldn’t score it any higher than this.

Right from the off, this William Hill betting site was off to a good start in my eyes. It offers over 30 different sports, some of which are also rather unusual such as motorbikes, netball and hurling. This leaves PlayUp’s offer of 23 sports looking rather paltry

However, it still hasn’t quite got bet365 sportsbook beat, as that sportsbook has 40 sports to choose from. I will say though, that William Hill sportsbook does put its best foot forward with the options for each game.

If we’re talking football, then there’s a huge number of options, as many as 200 betting options for just a single game. Average that out and there are around 100 options per game across sports.

I was also pleased to find that there are some rather extensive betting options with the unique bets. Clicking on TV led me to options for the Golden Globes, the Oscars and many more besides.

Additional market details: Horse racing is definitely top of the pile here. You can find a wealth of different NZ and AUS races and many of these can be streamed or bet on live, which is just an added bonus. Keep an eye out for enhanced William Hill odds too.

Additional market details: Despite this being for Kiwis, football is the other massive sport here. This is, after all, a UK-based site. There are, as mentioned, so many different football betting options here. And you can place in play bets too.

I am very happy to say that once again my William Hill review has revealed a solid set of betting tools available to you. Like most sites, there’s a good bet builder on offer.

There’s also a good selection of in play options that you can place bets on. It beats Neds, as you can only do live betting via the phone on that sportsbook, but here I can place them myself on the website or William Hill app.

William Hill also has two different cashout options. First, you can do a full cashout, and second, you can do a partial one. I really enjoyed having the choice of both as some sites are really restricting on this or, I’m looking at you MyBookie, don’t even offer it at all.

There are a number of virtual betting options too. In fact, this is found under the virtual world tab. Speaking of tabs, I liked the fact that I could quickly toggle between the different odds formats too.

Finally, I was pleased to find that the site really caters to beginners too. There are some excellent betting tips found alongside various different bets, especially when it comes to the live bets.

Additional features: Parlays are hugely popular and the same can be said here. By adding multiple bets together, you can essentially create a super bet. Now, to win, all legs within the bet must come to pass. It’s risky, but the rewards can be huge if everything does end up going your way. With no other system bets, this is good for more excitement.

Again, I am really not one to complain when the odds are this good. Yes, the average payout percentage isn’t as high as it could be, but William Hill really does have the edge over some sportsbooks.

This is evident when you look at what MyBookie has to offer. William Hill is far better than MyBookie, which has a payout percentage of less than 93% on average.

I was also amazed to see that the live bets here were better, on average, than the traditional ones. It was a pleasant surprise and something I haven’t seen elsewhere. Typically, they are a lot lower, sinking to as little as 87.93% on LeoVegas for example.

Multi bets, in particular, seem to do a lot better here at William Hill too. And, if we’re looking at the cumulative odds, the site is really far above the rest.

Everything is made even better by the fact that I can use a qualifying bet or any free bets to place wagers with these outstanding odds.

I will say this, William Hill really does have an extraordinary range of different payment methods. It’s just a shame not all of them are available to Kiwi players, and an even bigger shame that it doesn’t accept NZ dollars.

However, with seven main options here, it’s got more to offer than TAB, which has just three payment methods for New Zealanders to make transactions with. However, those transactions are all in NZD.

There was plenty of information regarding the minimum and maximum limits and transaction timescales for withdrawals and deposits, which was a plus. But, like BetVictor, I did have to trawl through the help section to find it. Even then, amounts were only supplied in British pounds, which, William Hill, is a minus.

The payouts were pretty speedy once the pending period was complete. e-wallets will be the same day, while VISA Direct payouts should take as little as 30 minutes to 4 hours! Now, that’s not bad, William Hill!

I can’t stress enough here how impressed I was with the security offered up by William Hill. It truly is impressive. The only way it would get a higher score is having its own responsible gambling software like that available at Royal Panda.

As it is, the site still has strong responsible protocols in place and these are very easy to access on the site. There are even informative sections on how exactly to use these tools effectively. Absolutely love it.

To keep you safe, there is TLS 1.2 encryption which is almost impossible to break. This finally puts Ladbrokes and its 2048-bit enctyption in its place and is the only NZ sportsbook I’ve found that actually does one better than that bookie.

Better still, all of these features are carried over to all the other platforms too. So, you’re protected whether you use the William Hill mobile app, mobile browser site or the standard desktop version.

I’ll say it now, but once again William Hill has done itself proud. The online betting site is really great when it comes to answering any and all queries or issues you might have.

Okay, so I didn’t give it the top score but that’s because I had to go on a search for the live chat. I would prefer to have the chat available at the bottom of each page as a sticky button.

That being said, with four different options to get in touch, I really can’t complain that much. Impressively, like Betway there is also a phone line available. And, despite William Hill’s being in the UK, it’s a free phone, so you’re not going to get a big bill.

When you do talk to staff, they’re super friendly and helpful. This really makes a nice change from other sites such as Sportsbet which have some of the most unfriendly staff out there. A win again for William Hill.

I really do like the overall setup here, as it is very easy to use. The design isn’t too bad either in terms of the colour scheme, though it is a bit too white and blue for my taste.

Not to sound like a broken record, but I do wish more sites like this would have a dark mode and follow sportsbooks like PlayUp. Additionally, William Hill could do with a little bit of a revamp — it’s a bit dated.

Unlike 888Sport’s glitchy Android app, William Hill’s apps work well, and emulate the main desktop site nicely. If you don’t want to download the app, don’t worry, I tested the mobile browser version of the site, and everything works nicely there too.

I could log in to my William Hill betting account, claim free bets, enjoy enhanced odds, get a live stream and use the bet slip with the greatest ease. If it wasn’t obvious, I am a fan!
