Editor's note

This review is based on the operator’s current offer in New Zealand. Data and analysis below are accurate at the time of publishing, but may be subject to change as the operator’s offer expands.

Empire.io bonus offers

Empire.io has a welcome bonus that offers a 100% match deposit, awarded in BTC, when you deposit at least 20 USDT (1 USDT ≈ 1.80 NZD). No bonus code is required, but activate the bonus under ‘Rewards’ in your profile settings.

Alternatively, players can avail of a 150% up to 500 USDT welcome offer that comes with 50 free spins on Gates of Olympus. You can redeem this offer through the link above, but you’ll need to use the ‘BONUS150’ promo code.

Only gameplay on slot games or pokies counts towards that playthrough requirement, which is 40x, and a maximum bet of 5 USDT (or currency equivalent) can be made.

This casino offers a Tuesday Boost and multiple tournaments throughout each month.

Additionally, a Loyalty Club has seven tiers for players to join. Making real money bets earns players points, which progressively unlock more rewards.

Bonus rating

90/100 Solid welcome offer with a loyalty program in place
  • Lucrative crypto bonus
  • Tournaments
  • Loyalty program
  • High wagering requirement
  • Limited additional promotions

I have to say that this is a rather uninspiring start to my Empire.io review. It’s the weakest section in my casino review.
First, there is a welcome bonus, but this deposit bonus is only geared toward using crypto. It’s big, though, offering more than the bonus from Stake casino, which only goes up to a match of NZ$500.

Both Stake and Empire.io have rather hefty wagering requirements in place, though. You need to playthrough the welcome bonus 40x, which I find a bit steep.

I also docked points for Empire.io because of the poor showing regarding additional bonuses. There are very few options here and no free spins bonuses. In contrast, Royal Panda has daily rewards, jackpots, games of the week and more. Both offer a loyalty program, though.

It’s solid overall, and there is no need to use any Empire.io bonus codes to claim the deposit bonus. But somehow, it’s still not quite enough. I’d like to see more improvements here in the future.

Casino games

In any casino review, we always look at the casino game selection, specifically looking for quality and diversity, not just quantity.

Empire.io offers up to over 5,000 different casino games. For the most part, these are pokies. There are hundreds of classic, video and jackpot options available.

Empire.io crypto casino also has a massive selection of live dealer games. These include everything from game shows to traditional baccarat, blackjack and roulette options.

Additionally, there are virtual table games on offer as well. Impressively, like other related casinos, there are crash games, video bingo games and more.

Despite Empire.io casino offering a lot of games, there are still some areas that are lacking. For instance, there are no video poker games, only video bingo.

Games rating

92/100 Diverse gaming library, but live casino is lacking
  • Over 5,000 casino games
  • High-quality live games
  • Many instant-win games
  • No video poker
  • Very few jackpots

This section in my casino review is far better than the first. I will always be happy when an online casino offers more than 5,000 casino games.

Impressively, Empire.io beats out the likes of Casino Days in this area as that casino only has 3000 casino games. However, with 112 jackpots, the six on offer at Empire.io is a little poor.

Similarly, despite having more games overall, the live dealer games section is a little underwhelming. There are more than 200 live games, but compared to the 300+ live games selection at ExciteWin, Empire.io could do better.

Let me be clear, though: I am not complaining about the games here. There are a lot of additional games on offer such as video bingo, crash games and more, so that the focus isn’t entirely on the pokie or slot game collection.

That being said, a few more jackpots wouldn’t hurt, and the fact that there are no video poker games is somewhat of a letdown. The casino does encourage players to submit requests for their favourite games, though.

Software: 60 different developers

It’s all good to have a strong game selection, but the providers must also be good. Empire.io casino uses 60 different providers, which is very solid for the online casino industry.

For starters, there are a number of top game providers here, including NetEnt, Push Gaming, Red Tiger Gaming, Pragmatic Play, Play’n Go, and many more.

Additionally, smaller or up-and-coming game providers are also present. Some of the top new studios available here include Relax Gaming, Hacksaw Gaming, Pocket Games, Soft Games, Booming Games, Spade Gaming, Kalamba Games, Red Rake Gaming, Turbo Games, Caleta Gaming and SmartSoft Gaming.

Additionally, there are six different providers when it comes to the live casino games. These include Evolution and Pragmatic Play Live as well as Asia Gaming and BetGames.TV.

Of course, the studios and providers list is not exhaustive, and top providers are also absent here. There are no games from Yggdrasil or Revolver Gaming, for example.

Software rating

90/100 Excellent range of software providers
  • Over 60 providers
  • High-quality graphics
  • Four live software providers
  • Some providers have few titles

This was another strong showing for this casino review. I was happy to see such a wide array of providers without excessive selection.

With 60 providers, Empire.io only has half the number of providers Joo Casino offers. But I am not complaining, as it feels like each provider is given a chance to shine. It appears some thought went into the provider choices.

Similar to LuckyWins casino, the primary provider here is Pragmatic Play. I found more than 400 games available from this provider across multiple categories.

And again, similar to LuckyWins, there were a lot of providers for the live casino section. With six providers, one of which is Evolution, a lot is happening here.

I still couldn’t give this the highest score, as some providers seemed to be there for numbers and had only one or two games on offer. But, I can make allowances because some may not be licensed and available in NZ.

Payment methods — crypto only

When it comes to payment methods, we always want to see a range of options, not just a few that force players into picking specific ones only.

Empire.io casino operates as a crypto casino, which means this is the main currencies are crypto. Various currencies are accepted, including BTC, ETH, LTC, TRX, USDT, XRP, ADA, and DOGE.

What this Empire.io casino review highlights is that there are not really any fiat currency options. But in case you don’t have any cryptocurrency, the casino does accept fiat to crypto payments through Onramper with credit and debit cards.

The minimum deposit amount should be between 107 NZD and 1,754 NZD. Payouts all appear to be in crypto as well and will go to your newly created Bitcoin cash or crypto wallet.

Payments rating

79/100 Good selection of cryptocurrencies, including fiat to crypto payments
  • Multiple cryptocurrencies accepted
  • Fiat deposits through Onramper
  • Lighting-fast payment processing
  • Crypto-only payments
  • No info on fees

I did score this section above average, even if it is a bit limiting for some players. And this is because, overall, it does meet the right criteria for safe payments. After all, a casino can reserve the right to offer only crypto if it clarifies this beforehand.

There are just nine options here compared to BetandPlay’s 11. However, the difference here is that as well as crypto, BetandPlay does offer other fiat options such as Skrill and doesn’t require players to purchase crypto.

Nevertheless, I will say that Empire.io does better regarding the minimum deposit. This is just 0.000007 BTC compared to the 0.0004 BTC required for BetandPlay.

Regarding crypto casinos, the currencies available are not too bad here. But there are other operators like BC.Game with up to 18 cryptocurrencies available, and are way more transparent about their transaction fees.

Safety features

Staying safe is an essential part of this casino review. Ideally, we want to see a range of features geared toward player safety, not just a licence, to score highly here.

First, Empire.io casino does have a licence from Curaçao. This means it has to abide by specific regulations regarding player safety to operate.

Part of this involves promoting responsible gambling. Empire.io casino has a dedicated responsible gambling section providing links to gambling therapy sites and providing tools to cool off or self-exclude.

As we further outline in this casino review, it is also protected via SSL encryption protocols. This prevents player data from falling into the wrong hands.

Finally, there is clear information on how the games are fair and regulated by a third-party auditor to ensure the RNGs are unbiased. But, there is no information on which auditor performs these checks.

Safety rating

88/100 All safety boxes are ticked, with responsible gambling tools in place
  • Curaçao licence
  • Multiple self-control tools
  • Transparent terms
  • No auditor certificate provided

Again, I found this to be a decent section, as I would expect it to be. There’s a licence for starters, and this one is from Curaçao. There is also a direct clickable link to the licence, which earned Empire.io some extra points.

Where I was a little less enthusiastic was in the vague details. Unlike Playzee, which provided the name of its auditor and specific SSL encryption details, all this is lacking in Empire.io casino.

Similarly, King Billy casino, even with the same Curaçao licence, does a much better job of providing more general security information across the board.

I will say that there is information in other areas where it counts. For example, the responsible gambling section is well thought out and offers many helpful tools.

And I can’t complain as all the security measures are in place. It’s just that I am unclear as to the exact nature of some of them. A little more transparency wouldn’t go amiss here.

Customer support

For this section in our casino review, we’re looking at the different options available when you need to get help.

Ideally, we would like to see at least three options for getting in touch, at least one of which needs to be available 24/7. Empire.io has two main contact options – email and live chat support.

The email option is in the form of either a contact webform or a direct email option. However, the direct email address is only provided in the live chat, not the help page.

Live chat is available around the clock and as a sticky button. However, it is not available to players who have yet to make an account.

There is a Help section available as well. This is a good place to start, as Empire.io offers some very comprehensive information.

Support rating

89/100 Good support options with detailed and helpful guides
  • 24/7 live chat support
  • Comprehensive guides
  • Speedy response times
  • Live chat for registered users only
  • No phone support

Strangely enough, given how good this casino is in other areas, this was one of the lowest-scoring sections of this casino review. And I will tell you why.

First, yes, like Casimba, there is 24/7 live chat support. However, on Empire.io, the live chat feature is hidden in the Help section rather than being available as a sticky chat button.

Also, you must log in to your account if you want to access the live chat. For me, that’s a big no-no, as prospective players deserve to be able to ask questions without being forced through the registration process on a site they may never use.

Further to this, Empire.io does have an email, but there is no phone support. In contrast, 1xBet offers many options including phone, support tickets and more.

So, overall, the support is generally good, and the information in the Help section is excellent. But in terms of quick access to staff, Empire.io casino really could do better.

Usability

Lastly, this section of our casino review is no less important. A good interface with a navigable design is essential for all online casinos.

First, Empire.io has a good colour scheme in place. It’s fun and vibrant and uses white text on a darker background to make everything stand out.

Empire.io Casino New Zealand

Additionally, Empire.io does offer a very navigable interface. This is particularly noticeable with the different categories and filters provided in the games section.

A comprehensive provider filter even lists the number of games per provider. Better still, within each provider group, it’s possible to whittle down the game selection based on game type.

All the different sections of the casino are also easy to access. The menus are clearly laid out, enabling all areas of the site to be found very quickly.

Usability rating

92/100 User-friendly layout with excellent mobile optimisation
  • Intuitive user interface
  • Excellent mobile optimisation
  • Fast loading speeds
  • Slow loading on some devices

I have to say, this was one of the most surprising categories in this casino review. Empire.io does an excellent job in terms of making itself accessible.

Okay, no mobile app is available, but the mobile browser version is excellent and has the same design and layout as the desktop site.

Like PlayZilla, it utilizes a darker theme with white text, which will quickly resonate with crypto players alike. I like this look, as it helps prevent strained eyes. So I am a big fan.

All areas worked well, too. Unlike JackpotCity, which was littered with broken links, I went there right away whenever I clicked on something.

Saving the best until last, the filters on offer are genuinely excellent. Adding more filters within the overarching provider filter was great for finding a game that suited my needs, even down to volatility and RTP. There are big points here.

Expert verdict

Empire.io casino is a relatively new crypto casino, but it already has a lot to offer, making it stand out. It’s got an exceptional selection of casino games with over 5,000 on offer. The only downside is the lack of video poker options.

It also starts things off well with a generous welcome bonus, though players must be happy with using crypto on the site. No deposit bonus codes are required to claim any offer. There are also a few ongoing bonuses and promotions, which are great for regular players.

Elsewhere, this online casino loads well and has speedy running times, though it doesn’t always work as well on Chrome. Support is good, too, with speedy response times if you find yourself in trouble.
