Editor’s note

This review is based on the operator’s current offer in New Zealand. Data and analysis below are accurate at the time of publishing, but may be subject to change as the operator’s offer expands.

Bonuses at Nitro Casino NZ

Bonuses are one of the first features we cover in any online casino review. With that in mind, we will look at the welcome bonus Nitro Casino NZ offers.

The welcome bonus is a deposit bonus offering up to NZ$500 when players make a qualifying minimum deposit of NZ$20. This deposit bonus can only be claimed once. It also comes with 100 free spins to be used on Sweet Bonanza.

The bonus money and spins from the deposit bonus come with bonus terms and conditions. These include wagering requirements 35x, which must be met before a withdrawal occurs. This welcome bonus is only eligible on the first deposit made while using the bonus code, ‘NITRO1’, which must be used to claim this Nitro Casino bonus.

Additionally, three extra deposit bonus offers are available, each requiring minimum deposits of NZ$40, NZ$100, and NZ$200, respectively, granting varying numbers of free spins: 40, 20, and 30 spins, respectively.

There are other casino bonus options for regular players as well. However, the additional casino bonus offers include only Drops and Wins promos, but there’s a massive NZ$2,000,000 prize pool up for grabs.

Furthermore, a VIP program is in place, but it diverges from the traditional tiered loyalty system, where benefits vary by level. Instead, the Nitro Casino team conducts account assessments to identify and reward loyal players with exclusive perks.

Bonus rating

89/100 Good selection of casino bonus options for new and regular players
  • Multiple free spins promos
  • Various ongoing bonuses
  • Loyalty program available
  • Casino bonus options aren’t varied
  • Unclear VIP program terms

When I looked at the bonuses here at Nitro Casino, I have to say I expected a bit more. When it comes to a casino bonus, especially the welcome bonus, I want to see that some effort has been put in. Despite my somewhat lacklustre opinion of this casino bonus, if you want to claim it, use the bonus code.

At Nitro Casino, it’s not a terrible welcome bonus. After all, it gives you up to NZ$500 in casino bonus money and 100 free spins (I give it points here because it’s a good number of free spins, and I do like an excellent free spins casino bonus). But this is still not on the same level as some other casinos.

However, if we look at VoodooDreams immediately, Nitro Casino is not up to par. VoodooDreams has an impressive welcome bonus awarding up to NZ$1,600. Plus, there are 200 free spins on offer. Nitro can’t compete.

Nitro Casino pulls it back slightly if we look at the wagering requirements alongside the casino bonus money awarded here. Voodoo Dreams is set at 40x and only 35x for Nitro. Small victories.

It still needs improvement for Nitro when I looked at Casumo. Again, the casino bonus for new players was a 100% match up to NZ$1200 in bonus money. There are only 50 free spins here, though, so, in terms of free spins, Nitro comes out on top. But wagering requirements are only 30x, so there needs to be a rethink here if I’m to give more points.

Games: over 3,600 titles

With the casino bonus options out of the way, it’s time to focus on the games available at Nitro Casino. There are more than 3,600 games on offer at Nitro online casino.

The bulk of the games, more than 3,000 of them, are slots (pokies), and they are available to play instantly after signing up. These games include classic, video, and jackpot slots, all with various bonus features.

Nitro Casino also has a wide array of table games. These games include baccarat, blackjack, keno and roulette. There are also a few video poker games on offer as well.

Finally, there is an Evolution Gaming and Pragmatic Play-powered live casino. There are more than 150 live games here, including roulette, baccarat, blackjack variants, and game show games.

After a rather underwhelming start for Nitro Casino regarding the bonuses and free spins on offer, I am happy to say it’s all picking up here.

Right off the mark, Nitro is instantly up there with King Billy casino. Both of them offer more than 2500 games. However, King Billy does pip Nitro to the winning post regarding the number of jackpots, something Nitro Casino needs to work on.

LeoVegas also does better than Nitro Casino regarding the live casino. Nitro has 350 live dealer games and 150 live casino games.

That being said, if we look at the virtual table games section, for instance, if you want to play roulette or blackjack, then Nitro has more options, which is nice.

I can’t complain about the gaming section, as it is on par with other casinos. That being said, more jackpots would be fine in my mind!

Software: great range of providers

When it comes to online casino games, it’s also important to look at the suppliers behind the slot games and live casino. Good casino sites will have more than 20 providers, so players can choose.

Nitro Casino has 92 different software providers. Most of these are slots (or pokies) powered by big and small developers. Top names include Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, Microgaming, Yggdrasil and NoLimit City.

Evolution Gaming and Pragmatic Play power the live dealer games. These providers are known for offering quality baccarat, roulette, blackjack and game show games manned by excellent croupiers or dealers.

Software rating

91/100 Huge selection of providers, both well-known and up-and-coming
  • Top-notch software providers
  • Two live game providers
  • Smaller studios represented
  • No bespoke software
  • Limited selection from some providers

In order to provide a strong gaming platform, casinos these days need to use a wide array of developers or providers for their games. For me, the more diverse the selection the better.

I was impressed with the 92 different providers available on Nitro Casino, with Pragmatic Play aptly leading the charge. Surprisingly for me, this still didn’t quite match up to the 100+ providers available on Playzee.

Pragmatic Play is also the top providers at SpinYoo, which has an even more impressive number of providers at 123. I can’t actually believe how many they all have, but I am not marking down Nitro for this.

I was happy to see that Nitro Casino offered two providers for the live casino — Evolution and Pragmatic Play. It’s not as many as used by the other two casinos in this comparison, but it’s not far off.
Overall, I was pleased with the suppliers found here. There’s a nice mix of top providers as well as small or up-and-coming studios like NoLimit City and Relax, to provide something a little different to the norm.

Payment methods

Often overlooked, it’s always essential to check out the payment options for making a first deposit. Ideally, there should be at least 10 payment methods available so that players can choose the deposit method that suits them the best.

Nitro Casino has seven different payment options. These include depositing with credit and debit cards and various e-wallets such as Skrill, MiFinity, MuchBetter and AstroPay. Neteller is missing from this list for NZ players.

All the deposit options can be used to make a withdrawal. There is a minimum deposit of NZ$20 across all payment types. The minimum withdrawal amount is higher at NZ$50.

Nitro Casino does not have any fees in place when making a transaction. However, new players should check that their bank doesn’t add fees.

Payments rating

88/100 Good payment selection, but there are some fees applied on e-wallet transactions
  • Good selection of payments
  • High minimum withdrawal limit
  • Fast withdrawals processing
  • E-wallet transfers carry fees

Happily, this is another solid performance from Nitro Casino. Regarding payments, I always have to check as they depend on the country you’re in. So, while the casino did list some in the footer, getting in touch with support revealed that not all of these were available in NZ.

The casino offered several country-specific payment options, which I was happy to see. These include bank transfer, AstroPay, and MuchBetter, though they did miss out on Neteller, an option Wildz casino offers. The lack of Neteller is a bit disappointing.

I would have also liked to see a few more Nitro Casino payment options. Seven is average, but it’s not good enough when you see casinos like LuckyWins offer 13.

I was happy to see a low minimum deposit of NZ$20 in place, which is very easy to manage. However, while that deposit limit was low, the minimum withdrawal of NZ$50 is not, which is disappointing.
Further disappointments come in the relatively low NZ$5,000 maximum withdrawal each day. Overall, it was nice to see that any deposit method, even bank transfer, could claim any bonus offers.

Safety features

Being able to stay safe is something new players to any online casino must consider. There must be a licence as a bare minimum; otherwise, we won’t recommend playing at that casino.

Nitro Casino is licensed and regulated by the Malta Gambling Authority. This is one of the stricter jurisdictions out there and has a number of security protocols that are required if the casino is to operate and allow players to play.

Due to the licence, SSL encryption protocols are in place to protect player data and prevent it from falling into the hands of a third party. This covers banking details as well.

The casino is also regularly audited, checks the RNGs of all games and offers 2-step authentication during the log-in process to ensure the right player is signing into their account.

  • MGA licence
  • 256-bit SSL encryption
  • All responsible gambling tools available
  • No game auditing information

Another solid showing from Nitro Casino here because it ably answered my biggest question. Did I feel safe? And yes, you bet I did, which means it’s off to a great start.

Nitro Casino is licensed by the MGA, which is one of the top gaming licences out there. I’ll be honest: I prefer this licence to the Curaçao one held by Joo Casino.

In other areas, Nitro Casino still holds its own against Joo as well, offering the same responsible gambling options, including loss limits and self-exclusion options for safer gaming.

I was a little disappointed to see that there was RNG auditing but no clear details on who and when this is done. Rizk is much clearer on this and is audited by eCOGRA.

When all’s said and done, though, Nitro Casino is very solid across the board. It has never been blacklisted and has SSL encryption in place too, so no real issues for me hence the good score.

Customer support

No matter whether casinos have a strong, dependable interface, it’s always important to know what the contact options are. And there should be some, just in case of an issue with any aspect of the casino.

These days, we expect casinos to offer at least three contact options, one of which should be a live chat. Nitro Casino has two, but a live chat is available around the clock.

The live chat can be found in the Help section of the casino site but does not feature as a sticky chat link on each page. A bot initially answers it, but real people come online if needed.

While no email contact is provided, the FAQ page has a contact form. This can be filled out by players and is answered within a day.

Support rating

  • 24/7 live chat support
  • Fast response times
  • Detailed Help section

I am impressed with how Nitro Casino continues to do well across different categories. The initial rocky start did make me wonder if things would go well, but again, the support has changed my mind.

Unlike the rather poor showing from Royal Panda (limited hours for the live chat, anyone?), Nitro Casino excels here. The live chat is available 24/7 and has one of the fastest response times.

Yes, a bot initially answered it, but within minutes, I was transferred to a live agent who couldn’t have been more helpful. If I have to quibble, it would be that the live chat is not sticky and is hidden in the help section — I initially thought there was no live chat!

The support was generally similar to that of Playzilla, with round-the-clock support available and a strong set of response times. But Nitro Casino does better than Playzilla regarding the FAQs and Help Centre, offering far more comprehensive answers.

I have to say, I was positively surprised by this section. No matter what information I needed, be it deposit bonuses or payout methods, the support was there in multiple forms.

Usability

Finally, we come to how easy it is to use the casino as a whole. Some casinos are hard to play as they do not have a navigable, intuitive interface, which is what we are looking for.

Nitro Casino does have an intuitive interface. It makes it easy to do everything from claiming a bonus to making your first deposit. Everything is also laid out clearly on this gaming site.

Nitro Casino's landing page and live casino lobby in a mobile viewport

For instance, in the gaming section, it’s a simple process to search for a specific game in the search bar. It’s also possible to search by provider.  Bonuses such as free spins, welcome bonuses, and first deposit bonuses can be claimed at the click of a button on both mobile and desktop platforms.

The site’s design is a black or dark theme, which is very easy on the eyes. With bright orange and white accents, it’s easy to read and find the different areas of the site quickly.

Usability rating

88/100 Simple design that’s easy to navigate through
  • Handy provider filter
  • Intuitive and clean layout
  • Large game thumbnails
  • No mobile app

So, it appears I am ending this review with the two lowest-scoring sections, but it can’t be helped. When looking at usability, I want to see a top-notch user experience.

It’s not the worst design out there, but it’s not a patch on Guts, which has an expertly designed website with a proper selection of filters available. It’s just providers on Nitro.

That being said, I will give kudos to Nitro, which has a dark theme which is so much easier on the eyes. Guts misses the mark on this one.

I will say that the interface of Nitro is similar to that of Winz.io. There’s a lot to like, but there are still some issues. Winz.io makes finding promotions hard, while Nitro hides its live chat.

It’s a solid effort with nothing too wrong in place. I’d like more game categories and better filtering systems to increase the score.

Expert verdict

Nitro Casino NZ has much to offer in the way of fun and casino games. More than 3,600 casino games are available, primarily pokies and jackpot slots. Additionally, a well-stocked live casino contains games from Evolution Gaming and Pragmatic Play.

For new players, there is a welcome bonus that matches those found on other casino sites. The casino bonus is a match deposit free spins offer. You get a deposit bonus and 100 free spins on Sweet Bonanza. There are also other casino bonuses aimed at returning players, as well as a loyalty program.

Generally speaking, Nitro Casino offers a solid gaming platform. As you’d expect from a licensed casino, responsible gambling protocols are in place. It’s also SSL encrypted and offers strong support. You can also find various NZ-orientated banking options with a reasonable minimum deposit and withdrawal amount. All of this combines to make a solid online casino for wagering on.
