Playio casino review
Playio online casino has a lot going for it. Available in multiple languages, this newly available casino for NZ players hits the spot in more ways than one.

- Good loading times
- Sportsbook included
- Strong support and help
- Low maximum transaction limits
- No listed license
- Limited responsible gambling tools
Editor's note
This review is based on the operator’s current offer in New Zealand. Data and analysis below are accurate at the time of publishing, but may be subject to change as the operator’s offer expands.
Expert verdict
As is increasingly the norm, there is no Playio no-deposit bonus on offer. But, there is a good match deposit welcome bonus in place, which sets players off to a good start.
I was also impressed with the range of games. These are from some hundred or so providers, and ensure a rather eclectic mix of exciting casino games.
However, where I do have concerns is with the security of the site. With no licence listed on the site, a search revealed it holds one from the Philippines, which is far from ideal.
It also means a lot of the necessary security protocols such as responsible gambling tools are severely lacking. While it looks fun, I would exercise caution when signing up.
Bonus
The welcome bonus at Playio offers a match of up to NZ$1000 and is coupled with 200 free spins. In addition, there is a bonus crab thrown in as part of the perks.
Playio doesn’t just focus on newcomers, though. There are plenty of offers and bonuses for regular players, too. These include a reload bonus offer up to NZ$1400 and 50 free spins.
Other options include cashback of 15% up to NZ$6000. There’s even a live cashback offer where players in the live casino can earn 25% up to NZ$400.

Bonus rating
- Lucrative welcome bonus
- Hundreds of free spins
- Loyalty programme
- High wagering requirements
- Invite-only Loyalty programme
I do love a strong welcome bonus, and this is what I got at Playio. It starts off with a punch and is a very lucrative offer, which I am always happy to see being given out.
That being said, it’s still surprisingly not quite as generous as the one from King Billy, which offers 250 free spins to Playio’s 200. I am not really quibbling here though, as Playio has better ongoing offers.
As is increasingly the norm, the wagering requirements are rather high. At 35x for the match deposit bonus, this is the same as the requirements for Casimba’s main offer. However, the free spins requirements at Playio are even higher though.
That being said, I am a fan of all the other ongoing bonuses Playio has on offer. I particularly like the fact that it does acknowledge the live casino, and has some offers for live casino goers.
Additionally, there is a varied mix of loyalty and VIP offers coupled with the Bonus Crab system, which all serve to bring perks and other rewards to players who do decide to stick around and continue playing.
Games and software
Playio has thousands of casino games. In fact, there are more than 12,000 games on offer and these come from 110 different game providers to ensure a well-rounded selection.
The largest category is the pokies section. It’s here that players can find games covering different themes, game mechanics, classic, and video pokies. There’s even a large section just for jackpots.
The casino also ably covers the virtual table games section. It’s packed with blackjack, roulette, baccarat, poker and video poker games, which means there’s something for everyone.

Recently, some of the NZ casinos have got some rather huge game collections under their belts. With some 12,000 games, Playio is definitely ranked among the top casinos in this regard.
Despite having 12,000 titles, it still doesn’t quite match up to the likes of Vegas Now, which has an impressive 13,000+ and has one of the largest collections I’ve yet to see.
All this makes the 2500 or so games from 888Casino look rather lacking. And this is the case throughout all the sections. Although 888 has just under 400 live games, Playio offers 400+.
Okay, so I am extolling the virtues of thousands of games, but on the other hand, it’s not always as great as it seems. The games are a little samey, and quality control could be better.
It is most noticeable in the jackpot section where there are hundreds to choose from. But, there are none of the top popular progressive jackpots here at all.
Payment methods
As is always important at an online casino, Playio has a variety of different payment methods on offer. There are 11 all told, and these cover both deposits and withdrawals, with most available for both.
Minimum deposits and withdrawals are set at NZ$20, while the maximum limits vary depending on the payment method and whether it’s being used for a withdrawal or deposit.
Typically, at the top end, players can expect to have an upper limit of around NZ$10,000. However, some payment methods are substantially lower than that, with limits around NZ$1500.

Payments do not have any fees attached, but it’s always important to check this from the other side, especially when it comes to crypto. Typically crypto will have gas fees in place.

Payments rating
- Speedy deposits
- Accepts cryptocurrencies
- Low minimum deposit
- Slow withdrawals
- Low maximum transaction limits
With the acceptance of cryptocurrencies, it’s becoming increasingly common for casinos like Playio to be able to offer a vast array of payment methods. And it’s something that’s really great in my eyes.
With 20 options under its belt, Playio blows the seven payment methods of Playzee right out of the water. There’s no point even comparing the two on this front.
However, when it comes to the specific limits, then other sites like Woo come out on top. For minimum deposits, Playio is at NZ$20, while Woo allows just NZ$10.
Maximum limits are lower on Playio, and at the very top only come in at NZ$10,000. Again, Woo does better and tops out at NZ$12,000 for most payment methods.
This is not the worst though, and these limits, coupled with some fast turnaround times, makes the payment section of Playio one of the better sections on this site.
Safety, transparency, and reputation
All top casinos must have a licence, and this is something that’s always checked. For Playio, this comes from the Phillipines with the casino licenced under PAGCOR and following its regulations.
The casino has SSL encryption protocols in place, and these prevent third parties or unscrupulous users from accessing any private data provided to the casino by the players.
There are no seals regarding auditing, so it is unclear whether the games are monitored to ensure they are fair. Nor are there any responsible gambling seals on the site.

Safety rating
- SSL encryption in place
- Minimal responsible gambling tools
- Phillipines license
- No auditing seals
Without a doubt, this is the section that dropped my rating for Playio considerably. And, unfortunately, when it comes to security, this is the main area for me.
First up, Playio doesn’t even list a licence on its own site. After a little digging, I found it’s licenced by PAGCOR, which has very minimal requirements in place. At this point, I’d take BetandPlay’s Curacao licence over this one.
In keeping with the minimal requirements, there are no auditing or responsible gaming seals on the site at all. Zilch. Nothing. Nada. It definitely goes against everything I want to see.
Worse, there are barely any responsible gambling tools. Even the Curacao-licenced Stake manages to have a full complement of responsible gambling tools for its players to use, and it offers access to hotlines!
On Playio, there’s the bare minimum. No account limits available, and I was hard-pressed to find anything about self-exclusion. This is a big no for me. Playio needs to do a lot better.
Customer support
Being able to get in touch with someone should there be an issue is very important. On Playio, there are various ways to get in touch with staff.
Available 24/7, the main option is the live chat. This can be accessed by going to the help centre and clicking on the button. Players will need to provide a name and email to start.
There is an email available, which is good for when longer queries or issues need resolving. It’s also good for providing documents, such as those for verification, when it’s needed.

The help centre is solid, offering responses to a lot of the commonly asked questions. It’s a good place to start for any player who runs into an issue.
Support rating
- 24/7 live chat
- Solid help centre
- Friendly support
- Chat is not sticky
- No phone support
I have quite strong feelings when it comes to support at online casinos, so it’s always annoying when it’s not as easy as it should be to use and find.
At Playio, for some reason the chat is not sticky. You can’t find it on the main page but have to go through to the help centre to find the button for it.
Then, I had to fill in all my details just to have a chat. At least it’s available 24/7 like Spinyoo’s is, but there it is a whole lot faster to get started.
I will say that it does beat LeoVegas in this section in that there is an email too. LeoVegas for some reason doesn’t even give that as an option, though it’s help centre is better.
At the end of the day, I’d prefer to have solid options across the board. As it is, it feels like players are forced to use a specific method even if it’s not the preferred one.
Usability
Playio has a solid platform in place with a dark theme that makes the text easy to read. There are minimal graphics, so the site has a relatively fast load time.

The menu down the left side of the page is clear, and lays out each section nicely. it makes it easy to find the different sections, as does the search function.
Games are all categorised, and have various additional filters in place. Players can also search for games via provider, and the number of games from each provider is also listed.

There is no mobile app, but the site is fully mobile-browser compatible. As such, there’s no need to download any software, and all games are accessible across platforms.
Usability rating
- Dark theme
- Clear menus
- Speedy loading times
- Slightly clunky
- Older design
Having a good design as a casino is increasingly easy to do. And for the most part, Playio nails it here. It’s a dark design, which is something I always appreciate.
However, I do find that it is slighlty clunky and a little dated in the design. It’s especially noticeable when compared to the sleek interface of Casumo (yes, even though this is a white design).
Playio doesn’t have an app, but this isn’t something I am quibbling over. It works well on the mobile browser and like Winz.io, has the full suite of games available.
Speed-wise, it’s fast, which is surprising given that it is a little dated. But there are very few graphics here so I guess I shouldn’t have been so shocked about that.
Finally, it’s got a solid set of filters, and I really like that when you look through the providers, the different numbers of games are listed as well.
