Editor's note
This review is based on the operator’s current offer in New Zealand. Data and analysis below are accurate at the time of publishing, but may be subject to change as the operator’s offer expands.
Expert verdict
I found that Spirit Casino offers a solid gaming platform for the most part. There are thousands of games, although some of the pokies do get a bit repetitive.
It’s also diappointing not to get a complete selection of games. Given the number I would expect to see at least a few video poker games, but sadly no.
The bonuses are impressive, and it’s great that there are so many different ongoing options. Just make sure you meet the rather steep wagering requirements if you’re taking these on.
Elsewhere, there’s plenty to like, with many payment options available, helpful customer support, and generally quick load times, no matter what device you’re using. A solid option.
Bonus
Spirit Casino kicks things off with a large welcome bonus up to NZ$22,500. This is spread across the first four deposits. It is only eligible for new players to the casino.
The welcome offer also includes up to 350 free spins, which are awarded across the first and third deposit. All deposits require a bonus code in order to activate them.
Return players are also awarded bonuses. There are a number of reload bonuses, which include a 25% match up to NZ$450 and various numbers of free spins depending on the deposit and the day.

Bonus rating
- Four-part welcome offer
- Ongoing bonuses and promotions
- Daily offers
- High wagering requirements
- VIP Club requirements
There’s a lot to digest when it comes to the bonuses and promotions offered on Spirit Casino. First, I was impressed by the four-part welcome offer, though it’s important to remember the bonus code to claim each offer.
However, there is a very steep 50x wagering requirement in place on both the bonus cash and the free spins awarded. I think this is a lot, especially when bet365 doesn’t have any wagering requirements on their welcome bonus.
I was very happy to see a wealth of different reload options for return players. Different match deposit bonuses, free spins, and a crypto bonus are all offered, which is right in line with King Billy casino.
There is a VIP program as well. However, you do have to meet the minimum total deposit requirements of NZ$3,750 if you want to be able to join. I wish there was an option for free for any loyal player.
I did enjoy the Lucky Spin and Lucky Box options though. Available daily, I was able to spin and open them to get more discounts. I did have to make specific deposits to be eligible for them.
Games and software
Spirit Casino has more than 9,000 different casino games available. There are numerous different game types on offer and these include standard and jackpot pokies, virtual table games and a live casino.
However, there are not many alternative game types available. No video poker games are provided, nor are there many instant games or bingo options for players to enjoy.
There are plenty of virtual table games available though. These include baccarat, blackjack and roulette variants. There are also some poker games and crash games of various kinds.

Games rating
- Thousands of pokies
- Strong live dealer section
- Crash games
- No video poker
- Limited soft casino games
On the surface, I was pleasantly impressed. There are thousands of games on offer here: 9,000 is a huge selection, which means I really had a lot to work with.
However, a lot of the games are very similar. And while there are hundreds of suppliers, there is an over-reliance on some of the smaller, less well-known providers.
With over 1,000 jackpot games though, Spirit Casino really puts the 70 or so jackpots from SpinYoo to shame. The sheer volume of titles does help Spirit Casino keep an edge over other real-money casinos, but I would like to see more of the major progressives here in future.
The live dealer casino is excellent though. Close to 500 live games is definitely up there, especially when Casimba offers under 100. I was happy to see the categorisation of the live games, too.
Where there are issues are the virtual table games. There’s no actual menu header or filter. I had to search for roulette and blackjack in the search bar to find these, which is not ideal.
Payment methods
There are 18 different payment methods for depositing and withdrawing on Spirit Casino. These cover card, eWallet, prepaid and cryptocurrency options. Not all can be used for both deposits and withdrawals.
Across all payment methods, there is a minimum deposit limit of NZ$20. This same minimum is set in place for the minimum withdrawal amount when it comes to payouts.
There is no maximum deposit limit in place. Withdrawals have a maximum limit of NZ$4500 per week, or NZ$22,500 in a single month. This is for all payment methods.

Payments rating
- Speedy deposits
- Accepts cryptocurrencies
- Various eWallets available
- Slow payouts
- Low maximum withdrawals
I was amazed that Spirit Casino hit so many of the casino deposit options available in New Zealand. Yes, many of them are cryptos, but there’s a good mix of other payment types, which I really like to see.
At 18 options, this really puts the seven offered by PlayZee to shame. I definitely enjoyed the ability to select whatever suited me, even if the withdrawal options are not quite as wide.
I liked the low minimum deposit requirements. At NZ$20, this is not bad, though I do like the lower NZ$10 at Guts Casino even better. It’s a better option for budget players.
Where I was less impressed is the upper end for withdrawals. This is capped at a paltry NZ$4,500 per week, not even per day. It’s very low, especially given the site appears to want high rollers.
Turnaround times are acceptable I guess. Though bank transfer withdrawals are very slow and take up to 10 days, while also offering the best option for a larger withdrawal. It’s not ideal.
Safety, transparency, and reputation
Spirit Casino has a licence from Curacao and the platform operates in a secure manner. It uses SSL encryption protocols to protect any data players provide to the casino.
Signing up is easy and requires a password and a username. Additionally, verification documents may be required. And, there is two-factor authentication available for a higher level of safety.
There are various responsible gambling tools provided. A full complement is not available but deposit limits can be set and players can opt to self-exclude should it be needed.

Safety rating
- Curacao licence
- SSL encryption protocols
- Self-assessment
- Limited responsible gambling tools
This is a bit of a middling casino for me if I am honest. Yes, there is a licence, but this is from Curacao. So while it offers some protection to players, it’s not the best.
I would rather see the MGA licence in operation here, just like Christchurch Casino has. This is a much more meaningful licence in terms of player safety and security.
There is SSL encryption in place, though this is much lower than the impressive 2048-bit with RSA key in place on LeoVegas. I’d also like to see the full range of responsible gambling tools like LeoVegas has, too.
Instead of having everything, Spirit Casino only has deposit limits and the option to self-exclude. Worse, these are not advertised on the responsible gambling tools page. I had to ask the live chat.
At least there are options, but the casino does not make it as easy as they would lead you to believe. I’d like more tools in place, and have them clearly and intuitively placed rather than hidden away.
Customer support
A live chat is available at the bottom right of each page. This starts off with a chatbot, but then transfers you over to a real person if the question can’t be answered.
The live chat is available 24/7 and has a relatively quick response time. Additionally, there is an email option available if you don’t have such an urgency in the response time.
An FAQ is provided too. However, there are not that many questions listed or answered there. There is no phone number provided nor are there any social media channels.

Support rating
- 24/7 support
- FAQs provided
- No telephone
- Slow response times
The support really was as expected here. A sticky live chat button is located at the bottom right of each page. When I opened it, I had to provide a name and email to get the process started.
Once provided, the process was a little slow as the chatbot goes through the steps to figure out what you need. When it couldn’t answer my question, it transferred me to a real person.
This took some time, with a wait of around 5 minutes. I then had to do the run-around of explaining I had no account yet. This resulted in an even longer wait before getting an answer, which is a pain.
However, with a response time of around 5 minutes, this actually matches most other sites in my experience. And the answers that Ember (my chat agent) provided were at least helpful, in contrast to the minimalist responses from VoodooDreams.
I was disappointed in the FAQ though. Just like PlayZilla, this is very sparse. It needs a lot more information to be actually helpful. This is why I ended up using the live chat in the first place.
Usability
Spirit Casino has a solid interface. The black and purple colours are a nice design, and quite pretty, albeit it a little severe. Additionally, the site is clear and usable.

Down the left side of the homepage is a clear menu. This is where you can find all the different sections of the site. Within the games section, there are different categories to click through.
The games section has a search function as well as a provider filter. However, there are no game numbers listed, so it is not possible to see how many games are in each section.

Usability rating
- Dark theme
- Quick load times
- Simple design
- No available app
- Filters could be better
For once, I don’t have too many complaints about the overall interface of Spirit Casino. Compared to other operators I covered for NZ online casino reviews, it looks good on the surface, and once I started navigating about, it held up there too.
The layout is a dark theme, which is always a plus, though I am never going to complain about the option to toggle between light and dark. Or, to keep clear white spaces such as Royal Panda’s design.
There are a lot of graphics throughout, too. But suprisingly, this does not slow down the page load times at all unlike on Stake. This was a nice touch, and was the case on both mobile and desktop platforms.
I liked that there are provider filters included. Clicking on each one meant getting access to the specific games from that studio only. I would have liked to see the number of games available alongside this.
The only disappointment is that there is a header to download and install an app. However, this did not work for me in NZ. At least the mobile browser version is fine.
