Editor's note
This review is based on the operator’s current sports offer in Australia.
Expert verdict
The easiest way to sum up GoldBet is to say that if you love betting on horse races, you are going to love this operator. But if you prefer to bet on other sports, you may prefer to look elsewhere.
Horse racing fans will love the generous odds, extensive racing coverage and strong focus on the sport. But fans of other major sports will be underwhelmed by the slightly limited options available to them.
The other areas at GoldBet are also a bit hit and miss. It is fantastic to see them accepting cryptocurrency payments and the range of customer support options is excellent. But on the flip side, the website is poorly designed and other are very few niche betting markets covered.
In conclusion, this is a superb bookmaker for horse race fans looking for great odds and extensive coverage of the sport. For everything else, this is a slightly below average Australian betting site.
Sports and markets at GoldBet: 19 sports to bet on
After you have opened your account and hopefully picked up a nice GoldBet bonus, it’s time to check out the sports markets. The first thing you’ll notice at GoldBet is that the operator has a strong focus on horse races, including greyhound racing and harness racing.
The upcoming GoldBet horse racing markets are clearly displayed on the website home page. The site covers racing from the UK, France, the United States and many other countries in addition to Australia.
There are 19 sports in total covered by GoldBet. This includes popular and less popular options like Australian rules, motor racing, rugby league and ice hockey. So you have plenty of choices for using your GoldBet deposit bonus. Speaking of ice hockey, for instance, there is top coverage for contests from the likes of German DEL & Swiss Nationalliga A.

Sports & markets rating
- Extensive horse race markets
- Horse race futures
- 19 sports covered
- Limited market options
If you love horse races, you are going to love exploring the markets at GoldBet bookmaker. But if you are into niche sports, then you may need to look at other betting sites.
Let’s look at the big positive first. The horse race markets at GoldBet are extensive and cover races from all over the world. The markets are as good as those you will find at other horse race specialists such as Dabble.
Unfortunately, this high quality does not extend to other sports, and I was disappointed to find that niche sports were not covered. Compared to leading sites such as Bet365 which covers more than 40 sports, the markets at GoldBet are a little limited, so I have had to award them a fairly low score.
Additional market details: Rugby Union is a very popular sport for betting fans in Australia. At GoldBet sportsbook, you can bet on Super Rugby games and other international matches, including the Six Nations tournament and the South African Currie Cup. The game markets cover spreads, moneylines and margins.
Additional market details: The soccer markets at GoldBet feature around 40 leagues from around the world, plus a number of international competitions. For most fixtures, you can bet on moneylines, spreads, correct scores and over/unders. However, I was unable to find any soccer futures.
Betting features at GoldBet: Limited choices
This is a key part of our GoldBet Australia review. The betting features at an online sportsbook can make a huge difference to your gambling experience, so let’s see how GoldBet performs in this area.
For major events such as AFL, World Cup or NRL games, you can place same-game parlay bets. This involves combining the odds for two or more selections on the same event.
The horse race markets at GoldBet include a number of exotic options. In addition to winning bets, you can place quinellas, trifectas, exactas and quadrellas. The racing markets also carry GoldBet’s sports price match product. This means that you can request longer odds, if a competitor is offering better odds. In short, GoldBet will match the best odds on the market.
Feature facts

Bet Builder | Yes |
Cash Out | No |
Live betting | Yes |
Live streaming | No |
Unlike many sports betting sites in Australia, GoldBet does not offer any live streaming options for players, nor are there any in-play statistics to look at. However, you can still place bets on in-play markets.
Betting features rating
- Range of exotic horse race bets
- Same game parlays
- Sports price match product
- No cashouts
- No live streams
Once again, I was left somewhat underwhelmed by GoldBet, hence the below par score. Although horse race fans can find an excellent range of exotic bets, there are not a lot of other features on offer.
Of course, GoldBet is not the only Australian bookmaker wagering site that severely lacks in betting features. Unfortunately, BBet is also very poor when it comes to offering additional options and features to their markets.
But when you compare GoldBet to innovative brands like Ladbrokes, it is clear that GoldBet needs to up its game in this area. Ladbrokes have more in-play options, cashout and even a few live streams, so it is no surprise that it scored much higher in this section.
Additional features: The ‘Final Four’ horse racing bet is probably the most adventurous betting feature at GoldBet. This requires you to predict the first four horses in a race, in the correct order. Clearly, this is extremely difficult to do, but you will often find extremely long odds for these markets, and potentially very high wins. Payouts for Final Four bets are based on the TAB dividends.
GoldBet sports betting odds: A solid offering
Finding the best betting odds can really give your online sports betting a big boost. After all, better odds equals bigger potential wins. With that in mind, we can reveal that the average payouts at GoldBet are 95.45%.
This places the odds at GoldBet slightly above the industry average of 95%. This percentage is a touch higher when looking at horse race markets. We found the average payouts to be 95.82% for major horse race events, without a promo code for bet boosts.
When looking at other sports, the percentage drops. For example, the payout percentage for soccer markets is 94.13%, without any GoldBet promo for boosted bets. As is the case at many sportsbooks, the payout drops even further when looking at in-play markets (92.35%).

One other important issue to note is that GoldBet does not offer any enhanced odds in its promo code section. At other online bookmakers, these enhanced odds can skew the payout percentage in your favour by giving you preferential prices.
Odds rating
- Average payouts of 95% +
- Horse racing payouts of almost 96%
- No enhanced odds in promo code category
- Disappointing in-play odds
This is more like it. I found the odds at GoldBet to be more than satisfactory. In fact, I am always pleased to find payout percentages of over 95% as this means I can get great value for my wagers.
Given their obvious focus on horse races, I was not surprised to discover GoldBet’s racing odds were superior to the likes of Betstar with 93.57% in this area. If you want to bet on horse races, GoldBet is a great option.
Given the very good pre-event odds, I was a touch disappointed with the live odds at 92-93%. It is not a terrible percentage, but there are some operators such as PointsBet that offer live payouts of around 94%. But overall, I had few complaints about the same odds at GoldBet and they thoroughly deserve their score.
GoldBet review: Innovative payment methods
GoldBet is one of the few sportsbooks in Australia that allow players to make deposits into their accounts via cryptocurrency. The site accepts a range of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dogecoin.
If you prefer to use more traditional payment options, GoldBet accepts a number of other methods. These include VISA, Mastercard, EFT, POLi, bank transfer and OSKO. You can find a full list of options on the GoldBet website.
Bank transfer requests can take up to 2-3 working days to arrive in your account. However, all other options should be processed instantly. There are no charges for any deposits at GoldBet.

Withdrawing funds from GoldBet bookmakers can be done via any of the deposit options. Withdrawals typically take around 48 hours to arrive in your account. Again, GoldBet does not apply any charges to withdrawals. However, we do recommend that you check with your banking provider before requesting a withdrawal. You may find that they apply a small charge to your request.
Payments rating
- No payment fee
- Good processing times for fiat methods
- Slow deposits for bank transfers
- Minimum deposit and withdrawal amounts hard to find
Overall, I think the sportsbook does a fair job at offering a solid banking section. However, it could definitely improve the ease of access for payments related information, especially for first-time site visitors. At the moment, there is no dedicated site link for payments.
Purely based on the number of payment options, GoldBet deserves a high score in this area. It offers far more options than many other brands and offering crypto payments puts it ahead of operators like Neds.
Unfortunately, there are a couple of problem areas. The minimum deposit amount is higher than the likes of Elitebet with $10, and I was not impressed by the slow deposits on bank transfers.

Safety rating
- Fully licensed
- No security issues
- Responsible gambling tools
- Fewer responsible gambling articles than some operators
Having explored the security at GoldBet, I can confidently say that you can gamble safely on the GoldBet website and I am happy to award the operator a 90+ score. What’s more, I am confident that GoldBet is very serious about responsible gambling.
The range of safe gambling tools you can set on your account is similar to the one at Betfair. In other words, you can find a strong range of tools to help you stay in control of your sports betting.
While this is also the case at other leading operators such as Unibet, GoldBet offers a more than satisfactory online security provision. You can gamble confidently and be assured that your data is secure.
GoldBet customer support: 3 contact options
If you have any problems when playing at GoldBet, the operator provides three contact options. First, you can click on the speech bubble icon on the website. This puts you through to the live chat service, which is open from 5am until 3am every day.
Alternatively, you can contact GoldBet by email at [email protected] or by calling them on 0409 238 238. You can also use this telephone number to send a text message. Email and text queries should receive a reply within a few hours.
If you open the live chat pop-up, you will see a link to the GoldBet FAQs. Here, you will find answers to ten common questions concerning areas such as withdrawal methods and the site registration form.

When we tried the customer support options at GoldBet, we found the operators to be courteous, professional and very efficient. The level of knowledge shown by the agents was extremely good.
Support rating
- Live chat 22 hours a day
- Email and telephone support
- Professional agents
- Limited FAQs
The good far outweighs the bad when it comes to customer support at GoldBet. In fact, the only real quibble I had was that the FAQs are somewhat limited, compared to operators such as PlayUp, which has a dedicated Help Center.
But the rest of the customer support provided is excellent. Being able to access telephone support, in addition to email and live chat, puts GoldBet ahead of many competitors. Operators such as ZBet do not have telephone support, so receive a lower score in this category.
Whilst I would have preferred to have seen 24/7 live chat support, 22 hours a day is more than adequate. Overall, I am confident that GoldBet will be able to satisfactorily answer any queries you may have and they do more than enough to earn an excellent score here.
GoldBet platform: No mobile app
GoldBet desktop site has a unique look with the home page displaying a list of upcoming events. You can choose to look at upcoming horse races or click the sports tab to see all other events. Next to the event, you can see a countdown clock showing how long it is until the event begins.
If you prefer to look at the overall range of markets, you can access an A-Z of the sports covered by clicking the main menu on the left of the screen.
The main menu also contains links to customer support, FAQs and your account information. However, there is no search box for players to type in the name of the sport, event or team they wish to bet on.

Platform rating
- Upcoming events displayed on home page
- Bespoke horse racing homepage
- No search box
- Poor navigation
I have to confess that I found the GoldBet website somewhat clunky to use. While I don’t mind an unconventional website layout, GoldBet seems to have taken things too far, and the result is a website that is tricky to navigate.
On the plus side, if you want to bet on a horse race or major sports event that is starting imminently, you can see your options straightaway on the website homepage. This feature reminds me of ReadyBet, which also deploys the same approach.
But overall, this is no match for the leading sports betting websites on the market and I cannot award GoldBet a high score. The likes of BoomBet are way out in front of GoldBet when it comes to website design and navigation.
FAQs
Is GoldBet legit?
Yes. GoldBet is licensed by the New South Wales Government and regulated by the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing in NSW. To achieve these licenses, GoldBet has to demonstrate that they offer a fair and trustworthy online sports betting provision. In addition, GoldBet provides safer gambling tools to help players stay in control of their wagering. These tools include the ability to self exclude and to set limits on their deposits.
Who owns GoldBet?
GoldBet is the registered trading name of GoldBet Pty Ltd, a gaming company licensed by the NSW Government and regulated by the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing in NSW. GoldBet Pty also has the authority to accept sports bets via telephone and the internet. Further, this authority was given by the South Wales Government under the Racing Administration Act NSW 1998.
Can you cash out on GoldBet?
No. Cashing out a bet means you can accept a reduced profit by settling your bet before the event finishes. If you cash out a bet, the ultimate outcome of the event becomes irrelevant. Unfortunately, GoldBet Australia does not currently offer cash out options on any of their markets. You can check out which features are available on the site (for instance, if there is a GoldBet promo code) by looking at the GoldBet promo page.
Can I use cryptocurrency at GoldBet?
Yes. GoldBet was the first Australian betting site to allow players to make deposits using cryptocurrency. The cryptocurrencies accepted on the site include Bitcoin, Dogecoin and Litecoin. Deposits are made by visiting GoldBet’s Crypto Checkout and entering your email address. You can then choose your currency and scan the on-screen QR code using your crypto wallet. When the funds are added to your account, they will appear as Australian dollars.
Is there a GoldBet mobile app?
No. Whilst many online bookmakers in Australia provide online betting apps, GoldBet is yet to introduce one. Instead, you can play on the GoldBet mobile site using your tablet or mobile phone, thanks to the operator’s fully mobile optimized website. This mobile compatible site is available on both Apple and Android devices and can be accessed via any mobile web browser. It offers all the same features as the full site, including the support options and the ability to use any GoldBet promo code.
