Expert verdict

Ladbrokes has had many years of experience as a bookmaker, and indeed, has been around long enough to watch bookmakers move online. Therefore, it has been able to refine its site over many years.

It has bought all of this experience and knowledge to bear on its site. Also, it offers great odds, when compared to its competitors. However, sometimes the odds can be a little on the low side.

There are some fantastic features which help it stand out. The Ladbrokes cash out feature lets punters cash out on live bets in certain sports. This means that they can cut their losses if they feel a match isn’t going their way. So, Ladbrokes cash out is a way to make the most of a bet. Live streaming is also another impressive feature.

The site does a good job of catering to the Australian market. There is Australian rules football, and lots of Australian racing events. It is vital to respond to the local market, so Ladbrokes has done well again here. Overall, it’s hard to fault Ladbrokes features. It offers a great selection of sports and any racing market available, the site and apps work well too.

Sports and markets at Ladbrokes sportsbook

As you would expect from such a well-established sportsbook, Ladbrokes has plenty of sports and markets on offer. Naturally, there is a wide selection of Ladbrokes racing and Australian races in live streaming. But, that’s not all.

The site is split into racing, sports, and live betting. Ladbrokes is well-known for its horse racing markets, but there is also greyhound racing, harness racing, American football, Australian rules, basketball, cricket, esports, politics, and more.

Not only does Labrokes offer an array of Ladbrokes horse racing, it also has a good spread of betting markets and sports betting options. Ideally, top sportsbooks will offer at least 30 markets and Ladbrokes does well in this respect with 28 markets.

Sports & markets rating

92/100 Great range of sports
  • Ladbrokes Racing Club
  • Large number of markets
  • Live streaming available
  • Limited alternatives to sport

During this Ladbrokes betting review, I’ve kept in mind all the other hugely successful online bookmakers in Australia and I can safely say that Ladbrokes stands up well to this comparison. I do like to see around 30 sports and Ladbrokes does well at 28.

On the Ladbrokes website, players will find a wide range of sports betting options. Not only is there a comprehensive choice of horse racing options with great betting markets, but there are also sports like greyhound racing and Gaelic sports. After looking at Booki website, I found that it only offers 24 sports and doesn’t match up to Ladbrokes.

I really like the fact that Ladbrokes has branched out into areas like Politics and Novelty bets. The Novelty bets available at the present time include Australian Idol and the Eurovision Song Contest. Some of the smaller Australian bookies like Goldbet don’t offer any novelty options at all. So I think Ladbrokes deserves a higher score just for that.

Ladbrokes also covers sports that Australians particularly enjoy wagering on, which I thought was a nice touch. It also offers great betting options on all the matches during the season and fantastic fixed odds. At present, it is offering over 190 markets on the AFL.

Of course, Aussies are well known for enjoying a game of cricket and I found plenty of betting options on this site. In fact, Ladbrokes has three categories for cricket betting, One Day Internationals, WPL, and Futures/Outrights. This means that all the major cricket events are covered by this bookie.

Betting features at Ladbrokes

One of the key things a punter looks for in a good betting site, is that it has an array of betting features. Ladbrokes features are extensive and stand up well when viewed alongside its competitors. For example, there is a great Ladbrokes sign up bonus, and it offers punters a host of other great Ladbrokes promotions.

Bettors can use the boosted odds feature, to get more out of their bet if they feel confident about winning bets. The betting functionality on the site is very easy to use, and the betting slip is created to the right of the screen. It’s simple to place bets and look for any enhanced odds.

Ladbrokes makes it easy to find the best Ladbrokes promotions, by having a separate tab for them. It also offers mystery bets, and bonus bets on horse racing, greyhound racing, and harness racing. Also, race multis are available for greyhound racing, to make things even more interesting.

On top of all of these great betting products, there is also Ladbrokes bonus cash. Punters can use a cash wallet to bet with and decide how they want to use the money. Unlike bonus bets, bonus cash doesn’t need to be configured. However, it can’t be used with any other promotions.

Betting features rating

95/100 Massive range of sports and betting markets
  • Wide selection of sporting events
  • Australian sports covered
  • No access to live streaming unless have Ladbrokes account
  • Not enough niche events covered

I found it hard to fault Ladbrokes when it came to betting markets. Ladbrokes online betting offers a massive range of betting products such as racing codes and some of the best promotions out there. One of the few sites that can be compared to the same range of betting markets and betting products is Betfair, with 28 sports markets.

It’s not surprising that Betfair offers a similar range of betting features as Ladbrokes, as it’s also a major international bookie. They both have a wealth of knowledge and experience to bring to their betting products.

The smaller online bookmakers like Winnersbet, only cover 16 betting markets, meaning players have much less choice. Ladbrokes also has the edge thanks to its live streaming features, meaning punters can watch live racing on the site. This is one of the major reasons I gave them such a high score.

Additional features: Of course, as we’ve said before, Ladbrokes is famous for its racing market. Additionally, it is also well-known for its race multis. Also known as parlays or accumulators, Multis allow punters to combine different bets into one. However, if one part of the race multi loses, then the whole bet is lost. But, if it wins then the payout is greater than individual bets.

Ladbrokes sports betting odds

Not only does Ladbrokes offer a fantastic range of sports, but it aims to give its punters top odds. Ladbrokes odds has always tried to give better odds than its competitors. When we look at sportsbooks betting odds, we like to see average payouts of between 95% – 97%. However, Ladbrokes is low here, with an average payout of 93.8%

On this site, there are a number of tools that players can use to increase the odds. Even on a single bet, punters can use the price boost, or enhanced odds feature to increase the fixed odds on a bet.

Ladbrokes offer a whole range of Live bets where players can also watch live racing thanks to live streaming. Players can also enjoy in-play betting. This means that winning bets can still be placed once a match has begun. So, if the predicted interim winner doesn’t look convincing, or if a team does better than expected, punters can place new bets, with different odds.

Ladbrokes also offers the best tote. This is a bet type that payouts the highest dividend on 3 national totes. These are UBET, the Victoria TAB, and New South Wales TAB. Alternatively, Ladbrokes has the starting price, which is its final fixed price. The best tote and starting price are both available daily.

Odds rating

80/100 Some high odds on certain sports
  • Price boost available
  • Better odds than many small competitors
  • Limited Live betting odds

I was disappointed to see that Ladbrokes odds are pretty low therefore, I couldn’t give them a higher mark. However, it has some fantastic betting functionality including its boosted odds. Unibet also offers better odds, and its average payout is much higher at 95%.

I feel that their fixed odds are below average. Its average odds are 93.8%, which is lower than I like to see. This is a bit of a letdown, especially when they’re up against big players like Sportsbet, whose fixed odds average is around 94.4%.

Overall, although Ladbrokes provides a good service to punters, its odds are a letdown. It has a great selection of betting markets, which means that there are plenty of sports betting options. However, I really think they should do better with their odds.

Payment options found in our Ladbrokes review

All betting sites have to have reliable, recognised, and easily available payment methods. Ladbrokes website offers nine payment methods. Ideally, we want to see 10 payment methods available, so with Ladbrokes offering 8 we are more than satisfied.

Ladbrokes has carefully selected some of the most trusted payment providers. Punters have access to the traditional banking methods of Visa, Mastercard, and bank transfer. They can also use the newer online methods including PayPal, POLi, BPAY, cash-in, and PayID.

Additionally, there is the Ladbrokes card, which allows punters to access their winnings instantly. The card is accepted everywhere that accepts Mastercard. Therefore, Ladbrokes has covered all bases with its selection of payment methods.

Punters can use the cash-in option. Once punters have a Ladbrokes account, they can make a cash or credit card deposit into their Ladbrokes account at participating newsagents or ATM pluses. Punters use the Ladbrokes app or website to set the cash-in amount. There is a minimum deposit of AU$10 and a maximum deposit of AU$2,500. Once players deposit funds in-store, the money is in their betting account.

Payments rating

85/100 Solid payments on offer
  • 8 deposit methods
  • eWallets available
  • Only 2 withdrawal methods
  • Withdrawals can take up to 5 days

I think that Ladbrokes has done a pretty good job with its choice of payment methods. It has included traditional banking methods, online methods, its own Ladbrokes card, and Australia-specific methods like BPAY and POLi. However, players cannot use a debit card.

One thing I did find a little disappointing is that the withdrawal methods are a bit restricted. Players can only withdraw money using the Ladbrokes card, PayPal, or EFT/bank transfer. Only the Ladbrokes card is instant. But when I looked at withdrawal methods at Palmerbet, I found punters can only use credit card, or bank transfer.

Overall, this is a good offering from Ladbrokes. Punters can use their credit or debit card, or online methods. Also, I really like the fact that they can set their own deposit limits, because this can help players to manage the money on their betting account. Smaller bookies, like Elitebet, don’t offer this facility.

Safety features at Ladbrokes

Online security is one of the most important aspects of betting sites. Punters need to know that their financial transactions and data are protected. Therefore, it’s crucial that betting sites take this seriously and are transparent about their safety features.

Ladbrokes has developed a five-level security system. It employs the latest 2048-SSL encryption, and multiple firewalls. Also, there is an inbuilt system that detects unusually high winnings and stakes. This helps to prevent criminal activity on the site.

Another important feature is that Ladbrokes in Australia, is that the site is regulated and licensed by the Northern Territory Racing Commissions. This means that the site is regularly audited to confirm that it is operating legally.

It is obvious that this site takes security very seriously. I can see that it has a very structured approach to its security measures and has put many safeguards in place. In fact, all of these measures mean I could really bump up my score for Ladbrokes.

Ladbrokes compares well against other big online bookmakers. When I compared Ladbrokes against Lottoland, I found that it was not as clear about the security steps it takes. It may well be as secure as Ladbrokes, but I found it reassuring that Ladbrokes was so clear about security.

Also, I felt reassured by the number of years Ladbrokes has been in business. It’s given the company time to build up good security protocols, which is very important when creating a safe gambling environment. Newer bookies like ZBet may not have had time to have its security protocols tested by real-world events.

Customer support at Ladbrokes

Having access to assistance when you need it is vital to a good sportsbook. Many questions can arise when gambling online. Sometimes these questions can be answered quickly by visiting an FAQ section, but sometimes customer support agents are needed.

Ladbrokes offers a wide selection of ‘how to guides’. These are available to punters when they create a Ladbrokes account and login. There is also a 24/7 live chat, 24/7 betting line, and 24/7 helpline.

Therefore, punters have access to customer support agents at all times. This means that if there are any issues with a bet or a payment, it can be quickly addressed and solved.

The search functionality is available on every page and punters don’t have to log in to use it. It works across the whole site, which means that quick queries can be answered without having to make a phone call or read a long guide.

Support rating

95/100 Excellent support channels
  • 24/7 live helpline
  • Extensive help guide
  • Good search facility
  • Have to login to access live chat
  • Help guide only accessible once logged in

Overall, I found that Ladbrokes has excellent customer support. I do like to see at least three support options and Ladbrokes has four. The fact that there is a 24/7 live helpline is fantastic. This is not something that many sportsbooks have, so it’s great to see that Ladbrokes offer it. For example, the Boombet support agents are only available from 8.00am – 10.30pm AEST.

It’s hard to fault Ladbrokes in terms of support. It has email, live chat, a helpline, and a betting line, so everything is pretty much covered. When I contacted the live chat and helpline, my queries were answered very quickly.

Ladbrokes obviously realises that it’s vital for punters to be able to get the advice they need quickly. So that’s why I feel my very high score is justified in this case. Other bookies like Bet Deck don’t have helplines, so this really gives Ladbrokes the edge.

Platform and Usability on the Ladbrokes site

Having a stable platform and an easy-to-use website is essential to the success of a sportsbook. If the platform continually crashes, or the site is hard to navigate, punters will turn to other, better sites.

Ladbrokes sportsbook mobile screenshot

Ladbrokes has redeveloped and redesigned its sites many times over the years. It has learned from its mistakes and the current site seems to work well. Ladbrokes has stuck to a simple red, white, grey, and black colour palette.

The main navigation runs along the top of the page. On the left is the secondary navigation. This details all the sub-sections of the top nav. This simple structure is used across devices and the Ladbrokes app.

Ladbrokes not only provides a website that resizes to fit any device, but it also provides apps for android devices and iOS devices. Some punters like to download a standalone app from the Google Play Store, so it’s good to see that Ladbrokes gives them a choice.

Platform rating

82/100 Very stable site

  • Easy-to-use navigation
  • Site structure retained across devices
  • Font is small in places
  • A lot of white space

I do like the Ladbrokes site, as it’s easy to use and doesn’t glitch. However, I do feel that there’s a lot of white space on the site in the content area. I also found the design a little basic. These factors meant that I had to keep the Ladbrokes mark down.

While white space is generally seen as a good thing, I think some of the content looks squashed. PlayUp desktop site has opted for a more compact design and I think it works better.

Overall, there is nothing wrong with the design of the site and the platform is very stable. However, when I compared Ladbrokes to other sites, I found that new bookies like TopSport have more imaginative designs. I think Ladbrokes could be more adventurous with its design, so I had to mark them down.

FAQs

Can Ladbrokes be trusted?

Yes! Ladbrokes is licensed by the Northern Territory Racing Commission, which was established under the Racing and Betting Act (NT). Therefore, Ladbrokes has to comply with all the legal requirements of holding that license. It is regularly audited and has to provide proof that it is operating legally. Ladbrokes has to be open and transparent about its dealings and be ready to provide any information requested.

Does Ladbrokes pay out?

Yes. Ladbrokes does payout, however, it is worth noting that all bookmakers have a legal right to not payout if they have a reason to withhold the payment. These reasons can include if the bookmaker suspects illegal activity or similar issues. Bookmakers have to analyse all transactions to see if there are any suspiciously large wins or other signs of illegal activity. If they find any reasons to doubt a transaction, they can withhold the payout.

Does Ladbrokes pay double results?

Yes. Ladbrokes does pay double results, otherwise known as first past the post. This applies to horse racing. It means that if your horse crosses the finish line first, but is then disqualified, the bookmaker still pays out. Therefore, the punter doesn’t lose their bet. This is very important because horses can be disqualified from races after they have won, which can be frustrating for punters.

How do Ladbrokes pay winnings?

Ladbrokes has three withdrawal methods. These include Ladbrokes card, PayPal, or bank transfer. The Ladbrokes card offers instant transfers. This card is only available to Ladbrokes account holders. PayPal is an eWallet and takes up to three days to receive funds. Finally, bank transfers can be set up on the site. It can take up to five working days to transfer funds.

What is Ladbrokes maximum payout?

This depends on whether it is a sports bet or a racing bet. It also depends on the bet type. Unless a bettor has agreed a different limit, Ladbrokes has set limits for each of three types of bet. Sports bets range from $10,000 to $50,000 per day. The different payouts depend on the sport. The next category is Novelty markets. Here, the daily limit is $10,000. The final category is racing. This has limits of between $10,000 and $300,000, however the average range is between $25, 000 to $100,000.
