Written by Elsa Fiott
Checked by Dasha G.Elena I.

Pay-by-phone casinos allow players to charge their deposits on their phone bill. Ontario casinos do not currently accept this payment method, though there are many mobile-first options.

Until operators catch up, I explain the ins and outs of phone billing deposits, and compare the best pay-by-mobile casinos offering users secure and convenient payment alternatives.

Editor's note

Unfortunately, there are currently no pay-by-phone-bill casinos in Ontario. I’ll be sure to update the toplist and recommendations once more operators begin to accept phone bill deposits.

This overview is based on the current offers in Ontario; the information you see, and our ranking list, may change as the market grows.

Mobile deposit casinos compared

Casinos which give players a range of banking methods are the most likely to offer great alternatives to phone billing payments. I’ve compared the top ten casinos with the greatest number of payment providers so you can check out how we rated them (see the expert rating beneath the casino name), which mobile-first payment methods they provide, and what they stand out for.

All the casinos below accept Interac and MuchBetter, except for Betano which doesn’t take MuchBetter. The minimum deposit is C$10 across the board and there are no transaction fees involved.

What is pay-by-phone billing?

Pay-by-phone billing allows casino players to deposit funds via SMS or phone call. The deposit is then charged to their phone bill or deducted from their phone credit or pre-paid balance, depending on which phone service plan they have.

Many Canadian phone operators provide this service, including the biggest three: Rogers Wireless, Bell Mobility, and TELUS Mobility. Check with your operator to make sure your plan allows you to make deposits via mobile credit or billing.

Transaction limits, time, and fees

Mobile billing deposits typically restrict transactions to a modest amount and most operators do not add charges. In some cases, you might be able to contact your network provider to raise your deposit limits. Minimum and maximum deposits can vary because a casino might have a particular arrangement in place for phone billing transactions.

Limits, times, and feesDetails
Minimum depositC$5–10, depending on the casino
Maximum depositC$10 per transaction
C$30 per day
Deposit timeInstant

Transaction fees

Your deposited funds should instantly appear in your casino account after your transaction is confirmed. If you’re on a billing plan, you can deposit and play instantly without having to wait for your monthly bill to be charged.

Phone billing can only be used to make deposits and you will need another payment method to withdraw your funds.

Is it safe to deposit by phone bill?

Phone billing payments are very secure because they do not require you to share any sensitive details (like your bank account number) with your casino or connect any credit cards with a payments platform. All you need is your phone number to confirm your identity and execute your transaction.

Pay-by-phone deposits are heavily encrypted and can be protected by two-factor authentication if you have this set up on your phone. This payment method is also very convenient since you don’t even need to download a separate app or create an account.

To ensure your online gambling experience is as safe as possible, you can also try playing at trusted casinos that excel in providing a secure environment for their players.

Which online casinos accept phone billing deposits?

There are currently no Ontario-licensed casinos accepting this service, though we’ll be sure to update this page with our recommendations once this payment method becomes available.

When casinos do eventually start to offer this payment method, you’ll be able to find a ‘pay by phone’, ‘pay by mobile’, or ‘pay by SMS’ option in the cashier section.

Alternatively, look out for phone billing platforms like Boku, Payforit, and Zimpler.

How to make pay-by-phone deposits

Making mobile billing deposits is very easy and straightforward. This service is sometimes called pay by SMS, because the user might be required to send an SMS to initiate the transaction. Alternatively, players might be required to make a call or simply type in their mobile phone numbers on the casino’s transaction page.

These are the steps you’ll need to follow to make a mobile billing deposit.

Step 1

Find a casino

Find an online casino that accepts phone billing payments and register. This will be indicated on the home page or on the ‘banking’ page.

Step 2

Head over to the cashier

Go to the cashier section, select ‘deposit’, and choose the pay-by-phone bill method or look out for providers like Boku, Payforit, or Zimpler.

Step 3

Select the deposit amount

Input the amount you want to deposit. Remember that phone billing deposits are often capped at C$30.

Step 4

Initiate the transaction

You might be required to input your phone number, send an SMS, or make a call to initiate the transaction.

Step 5

Wait for a confirmation

Verify the transaction and wait for the payment confirmation. Once confirmed, funds will appear in your online casino account.

Step 6

Check your phone bill

If you’re on a billing plan, check for charges on your monthly mobile phone bill.

Can you withdraw using the pay-by-phone method?

Phone billing only allows you to deposit money to your casino account and it cannot be used for withdrawals.

Unlike bank accounts or digital wallets, phone bills can’t receive incoming funds, and platforms like Boku or PayForIt aren’t equipped for withdrawals.

You’ll need to use a different payment method to cash out.

Time2play Expert Analysis

For the most mobile-friendly withdrawal methods, I recommend using digital wallets like MuchBetter, PayPal, or Payz.

Apple Pay is also an excellent choice but some casinos are only able to process Apple Pay deposits. Spin Casino, Betano, and BetMGM are some of the more notable exceptions.

Phone bill deposit casinos: pros and cons

If you’re looking for mobile billing casinos, you’ve probably already figured out the perks of simple, instant, and secure phone bill deposits. The main drawback is also clear: it’s not available in Ontario.

Here’s a quick outline of the benefits and drawbacks associated with mobile billing deposits.

  • No credit cards or bank accounts
  • No need to download separate app
  • Financial details not shared with casinos
  • No charges or fees
  • Easy to cap spending
  • No withdrawals
  • C$30 deposit limit per day
  • Not all phone operators allow SMS deposits

Best pay-by-phone-bill payment alternatives

Several mobile-friendly payment solutions can work as suitable alternatives to phone billing deposits, providing comparable levels of convenience and security.

Here are what I consider to be the nearest and most available casino payment methods that can substitute for phone bill deposits.

PayPal logo with casino games icons

PayPal

PayPal offers a secure payment system with instant deposits and cashouts in under one hour. The service provides a convenient, mobile-first experience, and it can be linked to several cards.
Payz logo with casino games icons

Payz

Formerly known as ecoPayz, Payz is a trusted e-wallet providing secure and convenient transactions and fast processing. Charges only apply on certain account levels.
MuchBetter logo with casino games icons

MuchBetter

MuchBetter offers secure and instant deposits and swift withdrawals. Transactions are free of charge unless you’re using the MuchBetter card.
Interac logo with casino games icons

Interac

Interac is among the most widely accepted payment methods at Ontario casinos. While it comes with some charges, it doesn’t require you to share your banking information with the casino.

Here’s a quick look at how these alternative payment methods compare. The minimum deposit is often C$10 for these platforms, and max deposit limits depend on the casino. All platforms process deposits instantly.

Time2play Expert Analysis

Trustly would have been a great alternative as it shares many advantages with phone billing deposits. For example, it doesn’t require an account set-up and you don’t need to link any of your banking details.

The only reason it didn’t make the cut is that hardly any casinos in Ontario offer it as a payment option.

Out of the recommendations above, the most widely available payment method by far is Interac. For comparison, fewer than half of the 30 casinos I recently surveyed accept MuchBetter, and around one out of every four casinos have integrated PayPal or Payz.

How I rate mobile billing casinos

When it comes to choosing the best casino for mobile transactions, I look at the payment options and policies in particular, but I also consider the whole picture. Here’s what to keep an eye out for.

Laptop screen with pay-by-phone logo

Deposits and withdrawals

Since you can only make deposits with pay-by-phone-bill casinos in Canada, I look for casinos accepting at least four payment methods, including popular and safe platforms like MuchBetter, Payz, and Interac. Instant deposits are the norm, so I’ll knock off some points for slow deposit times. The withdrawal processing speed partly depends on which payment platform you choose, with the fastest-paying casinos processing cashouts in under 24 hours.

Tablet screen with a green tick below the pay-by-phone logo

Fees and transparency

Casino transaction fees are a red flag in my book, so I’ll mark down operators that take a commission from your money. Pay-by-phone deposits shouldn’t incur any fees. There might be withdrawal charges associated with certain banks or providers like Visa, but the standard service on platforms like MuchBetter, for example, should be free of charge. Transparency is also key, so I look for casinos with easily accessible and comprehensive payment policies.

Magnifying glass over gold coin and chat box icon

Customer service

Phone bill deposits should be straightforward but let’s say your deposit doesn’t go through; that’s where live chat or some kind of 24/7 assistance will come in handy. Casinos lose points from me if they have slow response times, vague FAQs sections, hard-to-find help pages, or AI-manned chat assistance. I always test customer support before I deposit.

Mobile screen displaying percentage tag

Performance on mobile

I check whether casinos are able to provide a seamless mobile experience on both the gaming and payments front. I expect to see a mobile-optimized version of the casino site or a native casino app for both Android and iOS. I check load speeds, accessibility, user-friendliness, and differences in the online casino games library here. I recommend avoiding slow-loading, glitchy mobile platforms with a significantly reduced game library.

Tablet screen with pay-by-phone logo, green tick, verification badge, and security icon

Safety and security

Players looking for phone bill deposits might particularly value casinos with top-notch safety standards. I always check for 128-bit SSL encryption as a minimum, independent auditing seals for game fairness, and the all-important AGCO licence. Just because a casino accepts Canadian players doesn’t mean it is bound by Canadian law. Casinos that take their players’ safety seriously will also have easily accessible responsible gambling tools available and are rated highly in my books.

Cycle with arrows linking deposits, poker chips, and withdrawals

Casino games and software

High-ranking casinos have a varied games library with reputable software providers on board. At least 500 online slots is a good starting point (though several casinos boast a slot selection of 1,500+ titles) but it’s also about quality, so I look out for game studios like NetEnt, Evolution, or Play’n GO. Not all players go for slots, which is why I rate casinos highly when they offer a good selection of first-person games and live tables. For comparison, 40+ is the market average for first-person games and 100+ for live casino tables.

FAQs

Which is the best pay-by-phone-bill casino in Canada?

Currently, no casinos offer their players the chance to pay with their phone bill. PokerStars is the best casino offering the nearest alternative payment methods, like PayPal.

Do Ontario online casinos accept pay-by-phone deposits?

There are no regulated pay-by-phone casinos in Ontario right now. Some Canadian casinos may accept phone bill deposits but these operators aren’t regulated or they operate outside the province.

Can I withdraw winnings using pay-by-phone?

No, you can’t. Pay-by-phone can only be used to make deposits at a casino. We recommend e-wallet alternatives like MuchBetter and PayPal.

Is depositing at a pay-by-phone-bill casino in Canada safe?

Yes, it is. Phone bill deposits are one of the safest options you can use when playing online. The entire transaction goes through your phone and requires your authorization via an SMS code. This means that even if someone gets into your online casino account, they won’t be able to deposit on your behalf.

Do pay-by-phone-bill casinos in Canada have fees attached?

This payment method shouldn’t come with any transaction fees. Always check a casino’s payment policy before you make a deposit. Also check with your phone operator in case there are any additional charges related to phone billing services.

Is there a pay-by-phone app?

The PayByPhone app isn’t related to phone bill deposits. PayByPhone is a brand name for an app which is only used to pay for parking in Canada and the UK. Pay-by-phone-bill casino deposits do not require an app.

Review methodology

Our research process requires our team to directly register at a casino and get first-hand insights. We carefully review and double-check the payment policy, and in the case of phone billing casinos, we also test the nearest payment method alternatives.

Time2play reporters then score each casino using our expert rating system, which assesses a casino’s payments processing, games selection, usability, support, and safety features.

The toplist on this page ranks casinos we have reviewed according to their payments rating, which reflects the range of payment methods available, and the fairness and transparency of their payment terms.
