Why you should tail the bet
The Thunder has proven they can win without Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell
Star player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander recorded his highest points total (32) of the series in the most recent matchup and enters Game 6 red hot
Oklahoma has more playoff experience than the Spurs and are the current NBA champions
Spurs vs. Thunder betting predictions
Game 6 of the NBA Western Conference finals tips off on Thursday night, as OKC Thunder heads to San Antonio with a 3-2 series lead. Oklahoma are 3.5-point underdogs (-110) with BetMGM for their trip to Frost Bank Center, but a win for Gilgeous-Alexander and co. will seal their spot in the NBA Finals. The Thunder secured a 127-114 victory on Tuesday night in Oklahoma to take control of the best-of-7 series.
I’m expecting the Thunder to get the job done in Game 6 after they put in an impressive offensive display in Game 5, despite being without Williams and Mitchell. The fact that OKC are underdogs means there’s good value on them to cover the 3.5-point spread since even a narrow loss for Oklahoma will see you win your bet. Their superior playoff experience over San Antonio should see them through.
It was the performance of Jared McCain, who started his first-ever playoff game on Tuesday, that really impressed. The 22-year-old guard put up a stellar 20 points to help support an Oklahoma offense to its highest points total of the series. That momentum will be crucial on Thursday night.
The Thunder were not only superb on offense, but they managed to limit the ability of Spurs’ key man Victor Wembanyama in Game 5. He failed to make any of his five three-point attempts and shot just 4-for-15 from the field. De’Aaron Fox was also underwhelming, putting up just nine points. The playoff pressure feels like it could be getting to San Antonio; they’ve dropped three of the last four basketball games to fall behind for the second time in the series.
Team news
Here’s what you should know going into Game 6:
San Antonio Spurs team news
The Spurs are expected to have a full strength roster for the pivotal Game 6 matchup, with no new injuries reported following the recent loss in Oklahoma. However, Fox has been playing through an ankle injury, which explains his recent dip in form.
Oklahoma City Thunder team news
Forward Williams and reserve guard Mitchell are expected to miss out once again for Game 6. The former has missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury, while the latter missed Game 4 and Game 5 due to a calf issue. Alex Caruso and McCain impressed in the Game 5 victory, putting up 22 and 20 points respectively to help make up for the injury problems.
Spurs vs. Thunder lineups
If Fox is unable to start, expect Dylan Harper to come into the team for San Antonio. That said, the Spurs are expected to remain unchanged and should line up like this:
De’Aaron Fox – Steph Castle – Devin Vassell – Julian Champagine – Victor Wembanyama
After McCain’s impressive display on Tuesday, and with regular starter Williams still likely to miss out, the former is expected to remain in the starting five. Here’s how OKC should lineup:
Shai-Gilgeous Alexander – Jared McCain – Luguentz Dort – Chet Holmgren – Isaiah Hartenstein
