Le Fisherman slot review
Le Fisherman is another Hacksaw Gaming “Le” slot starring Smokey the raccoon. It’s the eighth installment, released a few months after Le Santa, bringing the same mechanics and similar features while adding low-to-medium volatility and one of the highest RTPs in the series: 96.33%.
With that alone, it’s definitely a Le slot worth considering, especially if you’re a fan of the series and Hacksaw Gaming slots in general. This Le Fisherman slot review takes you down the river to Smokey’s fishing spot, where I’ll cover the slot’s mechanics, features, paytable, and overall value to help you decide if it’s a game worth playing.

Le Fisherman slot review summary
Hacksaw Gaming has enjoyed taking their flagship slot character, Smokey the raccoon, all over the world, but Le Fisherman gives him a break and places him in nature fishing. After the wildness of the Wild West in Le Cowboy, and the cold fun of Le Santa, Le Fisherman is an interesting change of pace.
The slot is yet another engaging take on the Le series, raising the RTP a notch to 96.33%, one of the highest in the series. Moreover, even though the volatility is officially rated medium, many have described it as low to medium because the base game tends to have a very high hit frequency.
The Golden Squares are still there, and so is the Cluster Pay mechanic instead of good-old paylines, while the game also boasts three bonus games, two regular ones and a hidden one. The hidden one is especially interesting, as it guarantees a Rainbow or Epic Rainbow symbol on every spin, leading to the corresponding effects turning on more frequently, but more on that in the full review.
Pros
Hidden bonus guarantees Rainbows
On Thin Ice adds free spins
Above-average 96.33% RTP
Cons
Similar to other Le slots
Steep 500x Epic Rainbow buy
No way to buy 3rd bonus

RTP and volatility
The Le Fisherman slot RTP is 96.33%, which is among the highest in the series, and a good deal above the industry average of 96%.
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| RTP | 96.33% |
| Maximum win | 15,000x |
| Number of paylines | Cluster pays |
| Volatility | Medium |
The volatility is medium, meaning wins tend to be average and hit relatively frequently. The volatility is more suited to casual players who like to get somewhat longer playing sessions in slots.
The above-average RTP and medium volatility Le Fisherman offers are definitely my jam, especially after multiple playing sessions where I’ve noticed the win frequency to be quite high. I tend to agree with many reviewers who describe the volatility as low to medium, as it truly feels like that.
It’s a nice precedent for the series, where all slots have either medium or high volatility. Moreover, it’s certainly great news for Hacksaw Gaming, a provider widely known for high-volatility games.
All of this pairs well with the 15,000x max win, which definitely isn’t high, but is decent enough for a medium volatility slot in this series. However, once you venture beyond Le slots, it no longer feels as high since there are many online slots with max wins of 20,000x.
Bonus features
The main features in Le Fisherman are Super Cascades and Golden Squares, together with the Rainbow symbols that pair with the squares. The slot also has three bonus games, two main and one hidden. You can buy almost all of them except the hidden round.

Super Cascades
This is a standard reel cascades mechanic where winning symbols are removed from the grid once recorded, with new ones taking their place. In other words, each win leads to a partial respin, giving you a shot at another win.
Golden Squares and Rainbow symbols
Whenever you record a win, the winning symbol fields leave out Golden Squares. The cascades are still there, and if they lead to a Rainbow symbol appearing, all Golden Squares get activated and populated by special symbols:
- Bronze Coins: Have random values of 0.2x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, and 4x.
- Silver Coins: Have random values of 5x, 10x, 15x, and 20x.
- Gold Coins: Have random values of 25x, 50x, and 100x.
- Diamonds: Have random values of 150x, 250x, and 500x.
- Green Clovers: Multiply the values of all coin symbols, Diamonds, and bucket symbols adjacent to them. Possible multipliers are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, and 20x.
- Gold Clovers: Have the same effect and multipliers as Green Clovers, but they affect all coin symbols, Diamonds, and bucket symbols on the grid.
- Buckets: They collect values of all coin symbols, Diamonds, and other bucket symbols adjacent to them. Then they reveal new special symbols in that place, offering a shot at more wins.
- Global Buckets: Work the same as Buckets, but collect wins from all coin symbols, Diamonds, and other bucket symbols on the grid.
The special symbols also fulfill their effects in this order. First, you get wins from coins and Diamonds; then the clovers multiply them; and finally, the buckets collect them and add new special symbols.
If you manage to land an Epic Rainbow, special symbols will populate the whole grid, activating and yielding the rewards they keep.
Bonus game 1: On Thin Ice
This bonus game is activated whenever you land 3 FS scatters during the base game. You get 10 free spins and the same game mechanics as the base game, with two additions:
- Golden Squares stay on the grid until Rainbows activate them.
- The Big Catch Bar is displayed at the top.
The Big Catch Bar is the star of the show here. Every FS scatter you land will add one life preserver icon. On every 5th life preserver, the Bar reaches a new level, and each one has a special function:
- Level 1 (5 FS collected): Every Rainbow symbol turns into a Green Clover after activation. You get 5 more free spins.
- Level 2 (10 FS collected): Every Rainbow symbol turns into a Global Bucket after activation. You get 5 more free spins.
- Level 3 (15 FS collected): Every Rainbow symbol turns into a Gold Clover after activation. You get 5 more free spins.
- Level 4 (20 FS collected): You’re guaranteed a Rainbow or Epic Rainbow per spin, and they transform into Gold Clovers after activation. You get 5 more free spins.
Bonus game 2: Slippery When Wet
This bonus game is triggered whenever you land 4 FS scatters. You immediately get 10 free spins and the same functions as in On Thin Ice, but Golden Squares remain on the grid for the duration of the bonus round, even when Rainbows activate them.
Another small part of the bonus game is that Coins never have values below 1x.
Bonus game 3 (hidden epic bonus): Smokey Under Water
Smokey Under Water is a hidden bonus game that can’t be purchased with the Buy Bonus option, only activated in the base game when you land 5 FS scatters.
Once that happens, you get 10 free spins and the same mechanics as in the 2nd bonus. However, the progression through the Big Catch Bar is effectively eliminated as the bonus starts at Level 4.
Lastly, FS symbols can’t land in this round, meaning it always lasts for 10 spins only.
Buy Bonus
When you open the Buy Bonus function, there are five options in it:
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins: The option costs 3x the stake, raises volatility to high, and sets the likelihood of landing an FS symbol to 5 times normal.
- Rainbow Trout FeatureSpins: The option costs 50x the stake, raises volatility to high, and guarantees at least 1 win and 1 Rainbow or Epic Rainbow symbol per spin, while the minimum coin value is 1x.
- Rainbow Epic Drop FeatureSpins: The option costs 500x the stake, raises volatility to very high, and guarantees an Epic Rainbow symbol per spin, while the minimum coin value becomes 1x.
- On Thin Ice: The option costs 60x the stake and immediately activates the named bonus game.
- Slippery When Wet: The option costs 250x the stake and triggers the named bonus game.
I love the diversity of bonuses in Le Fisherman. They do offer the same vibe as many other Le games, but still hold enough unique things to make them fun to experience. Plus, some of the best rewards come from them too, especially when you manage to keep landing FS scatters in them and advance on the Big Catch Bar, leading to more free spins.
It’s a nice touch that you can buy almost all of them, but the prices don’t feel entirely fair, especially for the Rainbow Epic Drop FeatureSpins option that’s 500x the stake. You spend that amount to guarantee an Epic Rainbow on each FeatureSpin, which reveals special symbols across the full grid. That sounds like it should lead to massive rewards, but in my experience, at least in demo mode, it rarely does.
Symbols and paytable
Not counting the special symbols that come as part of the bonus features, Le Fisherman also has scatters and wilds and, of course, regular paying symbols.
Scatters serve only to activate bonuses and award free spins, while wilds substitute all regular symbols on the grid. They don’t pay on their own and can’t appear at the same time as FS scatters, Rainbows, and Epic Rainbows.
As for the regular symbols, there are 10 in total: 5 low-paying and 5 high-paying picture symbols.

Here’s an overview of low-paying symbols and how much they pay, depending on the number of them you connect in a Cluster.
| Low-paying symbols | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8-9 | 10-11 | 12+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 0.10x | 0.20x | 0.30x | 0.50x | 2x | 10x |
| J | 0.10x | 0.20x | 0.30x | 0.50x | 2x | 10x |
| Q | 0.10x | 0.20x | 0.30x | 0.50x | 2x | 10x |
| K | 0.10x | 0.20x | 0.30x | 0.50x | 2x | 10x |
| A | 0.10x | 0.20x | 0.30x | 0.50x | 2x | 10x |
And here’s an overview of the high-paying symbols:
| High-paying symbols | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8-9 | 10-11 | 12+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hat | 0.30x | 0.50x | 0.70x | 1x | 5x | 25x |
| Float | 0.30x | 0.50x | 0.70x | 1x | 5x | 25x |
| Hook | 0.50x | 1x | 1.50x | 2.50x | 10x | 50x |
| Anchor | 0.50x | 1x | 1.50x | 2.50x | 10x | 50x |
| Fish | 1x | 1.50x | 2x | 5x | 20x | 100x |
The highest-paying symbol is clearly the Fish, paying 100x the bet, which, at the max-bet setting of $50, amounts to a win of $5,000.

I like the symbol setup of Le Fisherman. Just like many other Le slots, there’s enough real estate (30 places on the grid) for the 12 symbols to appear.
However, I don’t like how much most of them pay when you connect only 5 to 9 of them. Most of the time, you’ll barely break even on those amounts, and better rewards only start when you cluster 10 matching symbols, which isn’t easy.
To add salt to the wound, only picture symbols bring meaningful rewards, as you can see in the paytable.
How to play Le Fisherman
Playing Le Fisherman is incredibly easy. It works like any other slot, and the mechanics are the same as in most other Hacksaw Gaming releases. You start by setting the bet size, and since there are no paylines or coin values, you just adjust the counter up or down.
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Min bet | $0.1 |
| Max bet | $50 |
| Autoplay | Available |
| Turbo mode | Available |
| Game history | Available |
You can spin the reels manually or use the Autoplay function. As in all other Le games, you can set the game speed to Turbo or Super Turbo, the second of which offers virtually instant spins.
Expert verdict
Le Fisherman is a polished and mechanically sound addition to Hacksaw Gaming’s Le series, albeit not groundbreaking. It offers many of the same features as other Le games. Still, it manages to slightly tweak them and deliver a volatility that feels more low-to-medium than medium, making it a unique Le release in that regard.
The game is mostly suitable for fans of Hacksaw Gaming slots, especially the Le ones, and casual players who favor longer sessions and steady hit frequency over huge jackpot-style swings.
