Mad Cabs Hold and Win review summary
Mad Cabs Hold and Win is the second release in the namesake slot series by Iron Dog Studio. As such, it brings back all its signature elements, from the racing cars theme to the betting range and RTP. Its comic-book-style visuals, paired with a rock soundtrack and quirky animations, make for a fun, if somewhat repetitive, experience.
What’s new is the simpler 5×3 grid and 10 paylines, which balance out the rather busy special feature lineup. Between Walking Wilds, Coin Shows, and the jackpot-packed Hold and Wins bonus, there’s plenty to keep you engaged in the 2025 Mad Cabs release.
If these features hit more often and the RTP were better, I might have recommended this to a wider pool of players, not just those willing to go all in for the 5,000x max win.
Pros
Walking Wilds in the base game
Hold and Win bonus with multipliers
Four jackpots
Cons
Recycled theme and visuals
Narrow betting range
Below-average RTP
Mad Cabs Hold and Win comprehensive review
In this Mad Cabs Hold and Win review, I focus on what matters most: game functionality and availability. The following sections will walk you through its RTP and volatility, take a closer look at the features, symbols, and payouts, and explore how and where you can try it yourself.
RTP and volatility
Mad Cabs Hold and Win has an RTP of 91%-95%, depending on the version, and high volatility. It plays on a classic 5×3 video slot grid with 10 fixed paylines.
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| RTP | 91%–95% |
| Maximum win | 5,000x |
| Number of paylines | 10 |
| Volatility | High |
If there were one change I wanted to see in this Iron Dog slot sequel, it would have been the RTP. Unfortunately, the Mad Cabs Hold and Win keeps not only its low-leaning RTP but also high volatility, leaving much to be desired during gameplay.
Wins were rare across the board, no matter how I adjusted my bet size. Most spins felt like filler until a feature finally landed, and the simplified 5×3 setup with just 10 paylines didn’t do much to break that rhythm.
That said, larger wins did land once I increased the stake, which added some much-needed dynamics to the game. So I’d skip the lower bet levels altogether if I were you, as long as you can afford it, of course.

Bonus features
There are three main special features in Mad Cabs Hold and Win slot: Walking Wilds, Hold and Win bonus, and Coin Shower. However, the Hold and Spins bonus brings along a few extras, like Special Multipliers and Jackpot symbols.

Walking Wilds
Besides filling in for other symbols, Mad Cabs Wilds can create and boost wins by “walking” across the grid. They slide from the position in which they landed to the left, filling all subsequent symbol positions in that row with wilds.
If they walk across a spot that was already filled with a Wild, this Wild multiplier increases. And if they walk across a Coin (Hold and Win symbol), they collect its value and add it to the total return of the spin.
Hold and Win bonus
The Hold and Win bonus unlocks when 6 or more Coin symbols hit the grid. A new 5×3 grid opens on top of the base one, covered only with blanks (tire symbols that have no value), which fill in with Coins, Multiplier symbols, or Collection symbols.
You start the round with 3 spins, which reset each time you land a new Coin or Multiplier symbol.
- Coins carry 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, and 10x and lock in place, whenever they land. But they don’t add to your returns until a Collector symbol (green rectangle with the word Collect) coincides with them on the grid.
- Collector symbols collect all Coin values on the grid during a single spin to add them to your total winnings.
- Multiplier symbols are framed flame icons with values 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x. When they land on a Coin, they multiply that Coin’s value. If they land on another Multiplier, their values stack together.
Jackpot symbols
Mad Cabs Hold and Win features four jackpots: Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega worth 25x, 50x, 250x, and 5,000x, respectively.
The Mini, Minor, and Major jackpots are represented by symbols, which appear in the Hold and Win bonus. Collector symbols must pick them up for you to win them, just like Coin values.
The Mega jackpot, on the other hand, doesn’t have a representative symbol. You can win it only if you fill the entire grid (15 symbol spots) with Coins during the Hold and Win bonus round.
Coin Shower feature
The Mad Cabs Hold and Win slot may randomly shower the grid with coins to give you a chance to trigger the Hold and Win feature. These showers, however, can only happen if there’s at least one Coin already on the grid, and no other special feature is active at that moment.
The Mad Cabs Hold and Win’s feature set is a nice upgrade from the original, which essentially only had expanding symbols and free spins.
There’s more to look forward to both in the base and the bonus game, especially with Coin Shower and Walking Wilds, reminiscent of those in the popular Divine Fortune slot. The problem is, most don’t hit often enough to leave a lasting impression.
Walking Wilds, which are probably the most frequent of the bunch, showed up 5 times over around 100 spins for me. But they only really paid off when I bumped my bet to $10 or more, netting up to $180 per spin.
I never saw Coin Shower at all, and Hold and Win only triggered once, with the maximum stake, which almost completely drained my bankroll. I ended up collecting just over $1,200, most of it from the Collector symbols that unlocked the round.
Multipliers and Jackpot symbols were nowhere to be found, and Coins peaked at 2x, which is pretty underwhelming for this mechanic.

Symbols and paytable
Mad Cabs Hold and Win has 8 base and 5 special feature symbols. The base symbols include low-paying card faces, J, Q, K, and A, which offer from 0.40x your bet for a 3-of-a-kind match to 2x your bet for a 5-symbol combo.
All the high-paying symbols are types of cabs, awarding 1x to 20x your bet for a 3–5 symbol match. The Wild is the only exception, offering 2.5x to 20x your stake. The rest of the symbols only appear in the bonus round and don’t have value on their own.

The 5×3 grid pays out for matches on consecutive reels, from left to right, across 10 paylines. The highest possible win per spin is 5,000x, which comes up to $250,000 with the maximum bet.

Iron Dog Studio hardly breaks new ground in its Mad Cabs Hold and Win design, especially compared to the original. The dark alley background is gone, but most of the visuals within the grid remain the same. If anything, some symbols are simplified, along with the size of the grid and payline system, which makes the gameplay flatter.
The $0.20–$50 betting range also makes a return, though the payouts don’t pack the same punch. Capped at 20x instead of the original’s 125x, the base game wins feel much less rewarding, even with the highest-paying symbols. With that in mind, the smaller maximum win potential isn’t much of a shock, either.
At 5,000x, Mad Cabs Hold and Win falls short not only of the original’s 7,500x win but also many other Iron Dog Studio releases. For instance, Solar Nova and Lucky Cauldron both carry 10,000x winning potential, with similar betting options. I definitely expected more, seeing as Mad Cabs Hold and Win is a Hold and Win slot.

Expert verdict
Iron Dog Studio doesn’t really step out of the box in Mad Cabs Hold and Win. It reuses most of what defined the original, from its visuals and betting range to the RTP and volatility.
Even if you liked the first game, that familiarity starts to feel repetitive pretty quickly.
They also chose to reduce the 125x base symbol payouts to 20x and trim max wins by 2,500x. You wouldn’t think so with four jackpots in view, but unless you’re comfortable maxing out your bets, meaningful wins can feel out of reach.
Where Mad Cabs Hold and Win does redeem itself is the feature lineup. With a Wilds system reminiscent of Divine Fortune, a feature-packed Hold and Win bonus, and four jackpot prizes, this game offers more depth than both the original and many other Iron Dog releases. It’s just a shame they hit so rarely.
Realistically, this slot would be a better fit for players who can afford to up the stakes and wait for the features to do the heavy lifting.
