3 Porky Banks Extra review summary

3 Porky Banks Extra comes as another entry in Iron Dog Studio’s 3 Porky Banks series. Apart from the original, the developer has released a Christmas-themed version of the game and another sequel, 3 Super Porky Banks, equipped with their proprietary PotRush mechanic.

3 Porky Banks Extra has a cheerful theme with three differently colored pigs sitting atop the reels, with a gold- and diamond-filled vault in the background.

The game features a Hold and Win system that triggers when six or more coin symbols land on the reels and can award four fixed jackpots, including the 5,000x Mega Jackpot.

Pros

  • Double, Mystery, and Collect win boosters

  • 5,000x Mega Jackpot

  • Free spins with doubling wilds

Cons

  • Below-average 95.13% RTP

  • Free spins are hard to trigger

  • No progressive jackpot

3 Porky Banks Extra comprehensive review

I played the game over several sessions while preparing this comprehensive 3 Porky Banks Extra slot review. That gave me enough time to test the base game, bonus features, betting controls, and paytable firsthand.

RTP and volatility

The 3 Porky Banks Extra RTP is 95.13% in the version I tested, while the game itself is listed as high volatility and played across 5 reels, 4 rows, and 30 fixed paylines. Wins pay left to right only.

While the game’s RTP sits below the 96% average, the “Extra” version does raise the max bet from the original game’s $25 ceiling to $50 and expands the layout from 5×3 to 5×4.

The game is labeled as high volatility, which felt true during my gameplay. I had multiple long dry spells during my sessions, only to be broken by a relatively high base-game win or a Hold and Win trigger that awarded the 15x Mini jackpot at the very least, plus whichever special coin feature was in effect.

Bonus features

Just like the original title, 3 Porky Banks Extra revolves around the Hold and Win mechanic that can award one of the four fixed jackpots. Meanwhile, getting three scatters to appear on the middle reels awards 8 free spins.

Hold and Win

Landing six or more coin symbols anywhere on the reels activates the Hold and Win bonus feature. Once triggered, all coin symbols remain locked in place while the remaining positions turn blank, and you’ll receive three re-spins to try and collect additional coins.

Each new coin that lands fills one of the empty spots and resets the re-spin counter back to three, giving you more chances to keep the feature alive. The round continues until either the entire grid is filled with coins or you fail to land a new coin within three consecutive re-spins.

During the feature, coin symbols can award instant cash prizes from 1x to 12x or fixed jackpots. The available jackpots include Mini (15x), Minor (50x), and Major (150x). Completing the full grid awards the top Mega jackpot worth 5,000x the stake.

Coin Shower

There is a random chance for a Coin Shower after a base game spin. If it triggers, exactly six coins will appear on the reels, enough to trigger the Hold and Win re-spin game.

Modifier coins

Three pig characters positioned above the reels grow larger whenever you land a special modifier coin matching their color. If a modifier coin appears as part of a six-coin combination that triggers the Hold and Win feature, its special ability will activate during the bonus round.

The blue “Double” coin applies a 2x multiplier to all other coin values currently on the grid, the purple “Mystery” coin transforms into either a jackpot symbol or a random stake multiplier, while the red “Collect” coin gathers the value of every other coin on the screen and awards the combined total.

There’s also a special Rainbow coin that can transform into any of the colored modifier coins before activating that coin’s corresponding effect.

Free spins

Landing three scatters on reels 2, 3, and 4 will award 8 free spins. During the free spins round, every wild symbol serves as a doubler, boosting the initial payout by 2x. You can retrigger the feature in the same way to get an extra 8 free spins. It is possible to get the Hold and Win feature during the free spins round.

Time2play Expert Analysis

I like the coin modifiers that add an extra layer to the familiar Hold and Win formula, but the way they trigger can be a bit misleading. Namely, every time a colored coin lands, the matching piggy bank above the reels grows larger, which gave me the impression that filling it up would eventually trigger its effect. In reality, the feature only activates when that colored coin lands alongside at least five other coins, so the piggy bank size is actually purely cosmetic rather than part of an actual progression system.

Free spins add some extra excitement with doubling wilds, but they appeared far less often than Hold and Win during my sessions. I only triggered the game once or twice, and it never produced particularly memorable payouts. I also never managed to activate the random Coin Shower feature.

As for the top payout, the 5,000x Mega jackpot feels fairly average for this style of slot. I’ve played similar Hold and Win titles capped at just 1,000x, but there are also plenty that push the ceiling to 10,000x or more.

Symbols and paytable

3 Porky Banks Extra has 8 standard symbols, including four low-paying card marks (J, Q, K, A), awarding 0.20x, 0.50x, and 1.50x for 3-, 4-, and 5-of-a-kind.

High-paying symbols include gold bars (0.30x-1x-3x), silver coins (0.40x-1.50x-4x), cash (0.60x-2x-6x), and diamonds (0.80x-2.5x-10x).

The base game also features a wild symbol that awards the same payouts as the diamond (2x wild during the free spins round), a scatter symbol that awards 3x and only appears on reels 2, 3, and 4, and coin symbols.

The coin symbols themselves come in multiple forms, including regular coins with multipliers of 1x-12x, Mini, Minor, and Major jackpot coins, colored coins, and a rainbow coin.

Time2play Expert Analysis

The betting range in 3 Porky Banks Extra is wide enough to suit both conservative players and those comfortable wagering at the higher end of the scale. Playing at the $50 maximum stake while chasing the 5,000x Mega jackpot puts a potential $250,000 payout on the table, which certainly makes the game look great from a big-win perspective.

The original 3 Porky Banks only allowed bets up to $25, so the increased ceiling here genuinely helps justify the “Extra” label in the title. However, it’s important to remember that the game pairs its large win potential with below-average RTP and high volatility, so prolonged losing stretches may drain your bankroll fairly quickly during unlucky sessions.

Expert verdict

3 Porky Banks Extra improves on parts of the original. It uses the same Hold and Win mechanics and bonus features, but has been expanded with an extra row and more paylines, while offering an improved RTP and a higher max bet.

Still, I can’t ignore that a lot of the excitement is concentrated in relatively rare events. Free spins didn’t show up often in my sessions, and even when they did, they didn’t really shift the momentum of the game. The piggy banks at the top of the reels are purely visual, not functional, so it can sometimes feel like the slot is more generous in its presentation than in the actual frequency of meaningful wins.

The high-volatility structure will definitely appeal to players who prefer bigger peak outcomes to steady returns. There’s enough upside in the 5,000x jackpot to keep things engaging for risk-tolerant players, even if the below-average RTP and dry spells make it less forgiving in practice.
