In general, however, you’re still looking at the same simplistic one-armed bandit-inspired layout with 3 reels, 3 rows, and 5 fixed paylines. The game’s visuals have only been polished slightly, so the grid is now a bit smaller, the fleur-de-lis patterns in the background are blurred, and the backdrop goes completely black on the sides.
Playson’s well-known Hold and Win mechanic also makes a comeback, as you’d probably expect from the name, but now it’s triggered by 3 bonus, royal bonus, or jackpot symbols. It still starts you off with 3 respins and can potentially last a while because coins don’t stick to the reels.

Hold and Win respins
Land the royal bonus coin on reel 2 with at least 2 regular bonus or jackpot coins on reels 1 and 3, and you’ll trigger the game’s bonus round: the Hold and Win respins. This sets you off with 3 respins on a 3×3 grid where only bonus, royal bonus, and jackpot coins appear.
During respins, regular bonus coins carry values of 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x, or 15x your stake, and the royal bonus collects them, adding their values onto itself. If you manage to land 1 or 2 additional royal bonuses, the value of each regular coin is added to all royal coins available on reel 2.

Playson sticks to its belief that traditional slot-inspired games will never go out of style with Royal Coins 2: Hold and Win. And honestly, its photorealistic fruit machine symbols have started to grow on me. That said, not much has changed visually from the original.
What the sequel has done instead is add a new jackpot tier, so you now have a Minor prize worth 50x your stake to look forward to, as well. Then again, the original jackpot system wasn’t that great to begin with, and this addition doesn’t really affect its bonus game-only coin setup.
The Hold and Win mechanic is what actually holds the game together, and I appreciated that Playson has kept the non-sticky symbols in. The new Pile of Gold feature is a nice little extra, too, and it definitely feels like it’s helping when it comes to triggering the bonus game.
