Le Viking slot review
Le Viking is a medium-volatility video slot from Hacksaw Gaming released in January 2025. It’s the third entry in the studio’s popular Le series, which has since spawned several other sequels.
The game keeps the 6×5 grid and medium volatility of its 2 predecessors, pairing them with a 96.32% RTP, a 10,000x max win, and a Hold & Win-style feature that expands into 4 bonus games. Don’t worry, though; I break it all down in this Le Viking slot review.

Le Viking slot review summary
Smokey the Raccoon is back at it. After first lurking Parisian streets in Le Bandit and then digging for ancient Egyptian treasures in Le Pharaoh, Hacksaw Gaming’s iconic mascot has decided to visit medieval Scandinavia in Le Viking.
The game’s visuals are as cartoonish as in the first two Le slots, and they’re now followed by an adventurous-sounding background track. Smokey is armed with a wooden sword that also acts as a back-scratcher, and he’s ready to pillage for coins on the familiar 6-reel, 5-row gaming grid.
Apart from the grid and medium volatility, Le Viking is quite a departure from the original. It swaps out its cluster pays mechanic built around Super Cascades with 15,625 ways to win, effectively functioning more like Cash ‘N Riches WowPot Megaways than Le Bandit.
At the heart of Le Viking is the Raid Spins re-spin mode, where 6 Coins trigger a feature with 3 refilling lives and sticky Coins, Diamonds, and Clovers. The 4 bonus games build on top of this mechanic by highlighting 3–6 squares, making them sticky, and giving them 2x–20x multipliers, which can turn the 3 initial spins into some pretty hefty payouts.
Pros
Above-average 96.32% RTP
4 bonus rounds with refillable lives
20x multipliers and Gold Clover symbols
Cons
3 other operator-selectable lower-RTP versions

Le Viking comprehensive review
I played several 100-spin sessions to prepare this in-depth Le Viking slot review. In it, I give you a rundown of its RTP, volatility, bonus features, symbols, and paytable, with details on how and where to play it.
RTP and volatility
Le Viking’s RTP is 96.32%, just 0.02% shy of Le Bandit’s 96.34%.
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| RTP | 96.32% |
| Maximum win | 10,000x |
| Number of paylines | 15,625 |
| Volatility | Medium |
It’s a medium-volatility slot with a familiar 6-reel, 5-row grid, though this entry features 15,625 ways to win rather than the usual cluster pays mechanic.
The Le Viking slot RTP of 96.32% is in line with the original 2023 release and sits decently above the industry average. It’s also one of the highest return rates in the entire series, though you’ll still have to pay attention to it as Hacksaw also offers 94.31%, 92.28%, and 88.27% versions.
The game’s 3/5 variance rating puts it in the medium-volatility bucket, and it certainly felt that way while I was compiling this Le Viking slot review. I had a balanced mix of lower-value symbol-only hits and heftier payouts, which primarily stem from its layered bonus setup.
Bonus features
Speaking of, Le Viking has a fairly complex feature set that moves far away from Le Bandit’s original setup. Nonetheless, it still revolves around 3 main features: Raid Spins, 4 escalating bonus games with 3 refillable lives each, and feature buys.

Raid Spins
When you hit 6 Coins of any kind simultaneously, you enter Le Viking’s Raid Spins with 3 starting lives. The feature removes all regular-paying symbols from play, filling the grid with dead symbols to begin with and only allowing special ones to land.
The re-spin mode relies on a Hold & Win-like mechanic. Here, each spin consumes 1 life, and every special symbol (Coin, Diamond, or Clover) you land resets the counter to 3. The symbols remain sticky until you get 3 consecutive spins with nothing but dead symbols, at which point the feature ends. When that happens, the special symbols you’ve landed pay out as follows:
- Bronze Coins pay out either 0.2x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x your bet
- Silver Coins pay out either 5x, 10x, 15x, or 20x your bet
- Gold Coins pay out either 25x, 50x, or 100x your bet
- Diamonds pay out either 150x, 250x, or 500x your bet
- Green Clovers multiply adjacent Coins and Diamonds by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, or 20x
- Gold Clovers multiply all Coins and Diamonds on the grid by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, or 20x
Bonus modes
Le Viking has 4 bonus games that all start with 3 refillable lives and build on top of each other. They activate when you land 3–6 FS scatters, and the one you enter depends on the number of these symbols you hit at the same time:
- Berserk Free Spins (3 scatters): The base bonus keeps the Raid Spins mechanic, and the 3 FS scatter squares that triggered the feature become Grid Multipliers. They multiply all Coins, Diamonds, and Clovers that land on them by 2x, and these symbols remain sticky until either the feature ends or a Magic Cauldron collects them. The bonus also introduces Hearts, which increase your number of lives by 1, up to a maximum of 5.
- Valkyrie Free Spins (4 scatters): Land 4 FS scatters, and the number of Grid Multipliers goes up to 4 (1 for each FS scatter square that activated the feature). In this round, the highlighted squares also carry bigger 3x multipliers.
- Ragnarök Free Spins (5 scatters): This bonus builds on top of Valkyrie Free Spins by adding an extra Grid Multiplier square (now 5 instead of 4) and increasing the multipliers on these squares from 3x to 5x.
- Journey to Valhalla Free Spins (6 scatters): The final bonus increases the Grid Multiplier count to 6, with each one multiplying symbols by 10x. It also removes Bronze and Silver coins from play, leaving enough room for Gold Coins, Diamonds, Clovers, and Magic Cauldrons to reveal hefty cash prizes, multiply those, and collect them all.
Buy Bonus
The feature buy menu offers 4 purchase options:
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins at 3x the stake give each purchased spin a 5x higher chance of triggering any of the 4 bonuses.
- Raider FeatureSpins at 30x the stake make all purchased spins activate the Raid Spins re-spin mode with 3 refilling lives and sticky Coins, Diamonds, and Clovers.
- Berserk Free Spins at 100x the stake take you directly into the first of the 4 bonus rounds with 3 refilling lives and 3 Grid Multiplier squares with 2x multipliers.
- Ragnarök Free Spins at 200x the stake activate the third bonus mode, with 3 starting lives and 5 Grid Multiplier squares, each with a 5x multiplier.
The second bonus (Valkyrie Free Spins) and the fourth bonus (Journey to Valhalla Free Spins) can’t be purchased.
Le Viking ups the complexity compared to the original Le Bandit in every way. Its Hold & Win re-spin mode felt genuinely rewarding when my 3 lives turned into 20+ free spins and covered more than half of the grid with special symbols. But it also felt equally disappointing when the feature ended with 10–15 positions with Coins and no Clovers. That’s balance for you, I guess.
The 4 bonus modes that keep this base game mechanic carry the same potential to turn into longer 25+ spin sessions and cover the grid with Coins and Diamonds. Plus, their sticky 2x–10x multipliers across 3–6 squares can turn your wins into some pretty hefty payouts, especially if you also land a few Clovers, as the multipliers add up quick.
The final bonus is the absolute highlight here, but mostly because Journey to Valhalla Free Spins don’t include Bronze and Silver Coins. And while I fully expected this one to be non-purchasable in the Bonus Buy menu, I can’t say the same for Valkyrie Free Spins.
Symbols and paytable
Like all slots in the Le series, Le Viking has 10 regular-paying symbols in its paytable: 5 highest-value playing cards and 5 Viking era-inspired icons.
The card royals (10, J, Q, K, and A) are the lower-paying symbols here. While all 5 pay out 0.1x for winning combinations with 3 matching symbols and 0.2x for 4, there are differences between them for 5- and 6-symbol combos:
| Lower-paying symbols | 5-of-a-kind | 6-of-a-kind |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 0.3x | 0.5x |
| J | 0.3x | 0.6x |
| Q | 0.4x | 0.6x |
| K | 0.4x | 0.7x |
| A | 0.5x | 0.7x |
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Theme | Vikings |
| Reel layout | 6×5 |
| Highest paying symbol | Hammer |
| Adjustable paylines | N/A |
| Visuals | Norse-inspired cartoon aesthetic |
| Sound | Medieval, orchestral |
| Mobile quality | Good |
The higher-paying symbols include bows, helmets, axes, swords, and hammers. Here’s what they pay out for 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-of-a-kind combinations:
- Bows & helmets: 0.3x, 0.5x, 1x, and 1.5x
- Axes & swords: 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, and 2x
- Hammers: 1x, 1.5x, 2x, and 3x

While the cluster pays mechanic felt perfect for the 30-square grid you get with all Le slots, the same can’t be said for Le Viking’s setup. Sure, you’re getting 15,625 ways to win here, which makes forming combos with 3–6 symbols easier, but the paytable is also disappointingly thin.
The lower-paying symbols don’t even cover the stake, while the higher-paying icons can only offset these low-value hits with 4-of-a-kind or higher winning combos featuring axes, swords, and hammers. All in all, regular-paying symbol-only wins barely make a dent, with most worthwhile wins coming solely from lining up 15+ Coins in Raid Spins or the 4 bonus modes.
How to play Le Viking
Despite a setup that looks quite complicated at first glance, playing Le Viking is super easy. You start by using the up and down arrows to adjust your bet size, which can range from $0.10 to $100. From there, just tap the big spin button right next to these.
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Min bet | $0.10 |
| Max bet | $100 |
| Autoplay | Available |
| Turbo mode | Available |
| Game history | N/A |
Alternatively, open the autoplay menu on the far right and set up 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 500, or 1,000 automated spins. If you expand into its advanced section, you’ll also find options to set loss and single-win limits and to stop hands-free spins when a bonus is triggered.
The left side displays your balance and last win, and holds the menu button with mute sound and music options, Turbo and Super Turbo modes, and the game’s info page. Right next to it is the Buy Bonus menu, which offers 4 purchase options.
Expert verdict
Le Viking isn’t just a familiar face in a new place; it’s an entry with plenty of novelties. While the 6×5 grid, 96.32% RTP, and medium volatility might not have changed, the Raid Spins feature fully replaces the traditional cluster pays mechanic that Le slot fans have grown so used to, with Hold & Win-style respins that can potentially turn into 30+ free spins.
The 4 bonus modes build on this base game setup with sticky 2x–10x multipliers, and the top-tier Journey to Valhalla Free Spins round also removes all Bronze and Silver Coins from play. This puts some serious payouts on the table, as Gold Coins and Diamonds are worth 25x–500x your stake, and Green and Gold Clover multipliers stack with sticky Grid Multipliers.
The only real downside here is how similar the bonuses are to one another. Each one is essentially an upgrade of the previous bonus with an extra Grid Multiplier square and higher multipliers. And while this obviously increases the chances of bigger wins, it also risks boring players over time.
