Sit and Spin slot review

Not being able to access the score table for me was a mixed experience. The score table is one of the first things I always look for, and playing a slot without knowing the payout potential of each symbol was quite strange.

I did land plenty of wins but I had no idea what my wins were worth and didn’t keep track – in a game that lasts under 2 minutes, the scope is about spinning as many times as possible to make sure your points keep going up.

This is another point: the game moves too fast for there to be time or need to care about the score table when you’re in game play mode.

So while the score values aren’t the main focus of this particular slot game, they are a standard piece of information and should have been included somewhere in the instructions to be transparent. It would have been incredibly helpful to have a score table before starting the game to know what the symbols are worth.

As for the prizes, I enjoyed this type of winning. The wheel of fortune that spins at the beginning is a fun extra gamification element and it feels like being at a fun fair. Admittedly, I always won just 0.2 Spree spins, but there is potential for some bigger prizes to be won.

Since the game is free-to-play, all payouts are basically just profits that push you closer to winning. It’s also why the slot lacks an RTP and volatility score. It’s a free multiplayer experience, and so the RTP and volatility are impossible to calculate.

Because of the fast-paced nature of the game, Sit and Spin seems to do all the typical ‘heavy-lifting’ of a slot game for you. The bet and coin values are hidden or don’t exist, so you never know how much you’re spinning for. Not being able to set a bet, or put in your own money, makes this a zero-stakes game. To be honest, that’s quite enjoyable.

The game is fairly competitive since you’re playing against two randomly selected strangers and it all lasts under two minutes. It moves incredibly fast.

With that said, there’s a consistent lack of transparency in this game. This time, it’s the potential maximum win and paylines. We can see the paylines light up when a win lands across them, but there are no instructions showing you where they are. As for a max win, there are big prizes to be won, we know that. But to get them, you need to rack up your points and there’s no reference to how they’re calculated or how high they can go. You just need to have a higher score than your opponents.

As an innovative multiplayer slot, this concept does work just fine, if you’re looking for an engaging, fast-paced slot game with zero-stakes. If you’re more of a high-roller, however, you might feel you’re missing out on the typical big wins from traditional slot games.

There’s room here for a potential sequel to Sit and Spin to be developed. It could be specially for high-rollers and would cater to what they look for in a slot.

Bonus features are where the slot really shines, as the whole game centers when you’ll next get to use one of the four unique features. Simply put: you win this slot by using its bonus features. There’s no guarantee that you’ll land the Sit and Spin symbol often enough to use all four of them, but I did find I triggered the War Chest quite a few times in a round.

The four weapons are pretty unique for a slot and they do add something extra to this game. I’d go as far as to say, they’re what makes the game interesting. Otherwise, you’re spinning reels for free against your opponents, hoping to win more points. The bonus features stand out.

They also require you to use some quick-thinking strategy. During my second attempt playing the slot, I managed to win my first round out of three with over 500 points. I started as the underdog as I was slow to start spinning, but as soon as I triggered the War Chest, I used the Slash to cut my strongest opponent’s points in half. As soon as I got the War Chest again, I went for the Steal, adding some points to my own. 

I quickly realized after a few attacks from my end that my opponents would come for me and my points pretty soon, so once I triggered the War Chest again, I selected the Shield to protect my points. I was able to use the Shield again in the last 10 seconds of the game, protecting myself from any last-minute attacks. 

In this way, there was a little strategy. It can’t be premeditated or planned, as you can’t predict how the game will go, but you need to keep your eyes on your opponents and use the War Chest to your advantage. Remember, they’ve got access to the same weapons, so nothing is stopping them from taking all your points either.

While all of that is great, it has to be said that the slot is lacking the typical bonus features you’d look for in a slot: scatters, multipliers, or even reel features. While there is plenty going on in this game, these features would definitely add an extra layer to this slot.

Visually, this slot is stunning. The graphics are so detailed and realistic, and the game works with a nice color palette of pinks and purples. I felt like I was right in a game show, competing for real prizes. The music also successfully creates a lot of atmosphere, which is essential when the game is so short. No bonus rounds, no respins, and no longer than two minutes so there’s no time for the game to create an atmosphere naturally.

The game is so short, I think it took me a few goes before I really understood what I was seeing. As soon as you’re in game mode, you’ve got to start spinning and if you get distracted and look away, you lose seconds where you could have a spin or choose a weapon. Or, your opponent could attack you.

Sit and Spin doesn’t have Autospin or Turbospin – not that it needs that. This is fine, however, finding crucial information is not so simple. The game window provides as little information as possible, almost keeping in line with the streamlined pace of the game.

There aren’t any instructions in the game window, although before the game starts an arrow appears pointing to the countdown timer that states ‘All game information is found here’. Not quite what I was looking for.

There are also some inconsistencies. In Spree’s instructions, it states the game is 2 minutes long, but the game itself is only 1 minute and 15 seconds, which is also written in the game lobby.

I did find more details on the Help page, which included a brief video that explained how the game works. This is much more helpful, but I admit it took me a few rounds of playing to find it. The FAQs also answer some essential questions, like how many times can you play in a day and whether there’s a cost to play. 

Spree also provides some decent instructions, however it’s worth noting all of these instructions are missing a score table and any kind of reference to a max win. I do feel like information on this game could have been made accessible in a more obvious way, especially as it’s such a fast-paced slot.

There are some positives here, though. The grids can hold up to 20 symbols, which maximizes your chances of landing a winning combination since there’s more room. You’re also able to access your game history of previous battles.

If you prefer to play on the go, the game runs well on mobile, though it will work better in portrait mode than landscape. The loading window is too small in both formats, but in portrait mode, the game window uses the full screen, with your grid at the top and your opponents just underneath. In landscape mode the game window remains small, making it hard to press the right buttons and to see your opponents’ scores.
