Our review of the slot shows that the theme of Ancient Greece resonated very well with players, which is why you’ll find it at most online casino sites.

Expert verdict
While the Gates of Olympus slot didn’t necessarily reinvent the wheel, and it’s highly similar to Sweet Bonanza, this is still a slot that does a lot of things well.
I quite enjoyed playing on the 6×5 grid with the Ancient Greece theme as it allowed me to immerse myself in the world of the slot.
I found the Free Spins round exciting and it has the potential for big wins, so if you’re on the prowl for a new slot that deviates a bit from your average online slot, Gates of Olympus is definitely worth your time.
- Unique Tumble mechanic and Multipliers feature
- High volatility has the potential for big wins
- Engaging Greek mythology theme
- High volatility carries a risk of losing streaks
- Gameplay can be complex for new players
- High betting requirements to activate all features

3 tips to look out for in Gates of Olympus demo
✔️ The Ante Bet toggle: I recommend switching on the feature for 50 spins. This will give you a good indication of how the feature works. Does it noticeably increase the frequency of the Zeus scatters, or are you just burning money 25% faster?
✔️ Multiplier behavior: observe how the multipliers interact when the cascading wins feature, known as the “tumble”, is in play. Do the multipliers drop during winning sequences, or are they awarded on dead spins?
✔️ Bonus Buy simulation: since you’re playing with free credits, this is the perfect time to “buy” the bonus buy feature and test it out. It’ll cost around 100x your bet, so it’s worth trying without risking your money. Try it out a couple of times and see how many times you make your money back
RTP and volatility of Gates of Olympus
Gates of Olympus has an RTP of 96.50% which puts it just above the average for online slots. On the other hand, the game has high volatility, making wins less frequent. However, the RTP-to-volatility balance is good, allowing you to land some big payouts.
Payout facts
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| RTP | 96.50% |
| Maximum win | 5,000x stake |
| Highest-paying symbol | Crown |
| Volatility | High |
As for the maximum win, it’s capped at 5,000 times your stake. The most important symbol is Zeus himself, acting as the Scatter that triggers the Free Spins round where most wins are achieved.
The Crown is the highest-paying symbol in the base game, followed by the Ring, the Chalice, and the Thunderbolt.
Payouts rating
83/100 High RTP, but maximum win can be higher
- RTP of 96.50%
- Volatility higher than average
At 96.50%, I’m happy with the RTP of the slot, as it sits above the average for online slots. What I’m not as happy about is the high volatility.
Compared to Sweet Bonanza, a slot that’s quite similar in all regards, the high volatility falls short here.
While the 5,000x times your stake is a decent maximum win, after playing slots like Dead or Alive 2 (111,111x bet) it’s not that impressive.
I do think the mechanics of the game — the all-ways-pay mechanic, as well as the Tumble feature and the Free Spins round make up for these. You’ll find that playing the slot, you don’t notice these downsides as much.
Gates of Olympus stakes
The minimum bet at Games of Olympus is $0.2 per spin, while the maximum bet is set to $100. With the Double Chance feature, you can bet 25% more to get a better chance at winning the Free Spins round, upping the max bet to $125.

| Minimum bet | $0.2 |
| Maximum bet | $125 |
| Adjustable paylines | N/A |
| Bet per line | N/A |
| Buy feature | Yes, 100x bet for 15 free spins |
Since there are no traditional paylines and the slot uses an all-ways-pay mechanic, the minimum bet is tied to the whole grid. The symbols can be clustered into a win wherever on the grid they fall.
Stake limits rating
85/100 Double Chance feature and wide betting range
- Versatile stake range
- Expensive Buy feature
I like the stake range that Gates of Olympus offers. Since there are no paylines, the minimum bet at $0.20 is quite low and appealing to casual players. On the other hand, the max bet of $100 should appeal to high-rollers as well.
I also quite like the Double Chance feature, it’s a nice addition to the game and it increases the maximum possible bet.
And if you’re feeling impatient, like I sometimes am, you can pay 100x your bet to enter the Free Spins round immediately.
You’ll get 15 free spins, and in my experience, that’s more than enough to get some returns. However, you should be mindful here, as 100x your bet can come at a steep price that may not always be worth it.
Bonus features of Gates of Olympus
The main feature of the slot is actually the Free Spins round. It activates when four Scatter symbols land anywhere on the grid, and you get 15 spins. During this round, special multiplier symbols can appear, and they apply to any wins that occur during the same spin.
Feature facts
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Wilds | N/A |
| Scatters | Yes |
| Other special symbols | N/A |
| Gamble feature | N/A |
| Reel features | Tumble |
| Free spins | Yes |
| Respins | N/A |
| Multipliers | Yes |
| Other bonus features | N/A |
The multipliers accumulate throughout the Free Spins round, so if you land a 5x and a 10x multiplier on the same spin, the total multiplier for the spin would be 15x. If three or more Scatter symbols appear in this round, five more free spins are awarded.
Bonus features rating
53/100 Few bonuses, but lucrative Free Spins round
- High-value Free Spins round
- No Wilds
The lower bonus rating that Gates of Olympus got is due to the lack of various bonus features normally available in online slot games. But if I’m being completely honest, this slot might not actually need them.
So the main feature you’ll find here is the Free Spins round. This is the part of the game where most of the winnings can be collected due to the special multipliers that can accumulate throughout the round.
So thanks to the Tumble feature and the multipliers, you can actually build up a substantial win in the Free Spins round. I still would’ve liked a few more ways to win, but this didn’t affect my experience as much as I thought it would.
Audiovisuals
Gates of Olympus is centered around the theme of Ancient Greece with Zeus as the main character of the game. He stands to the right of the grid and throws thunderbolts at the reels occasionally.

Audiovisual facts
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Theme | Ancient Greece |
| Graphics | Modern |
| Animations | Advanced |
| Sound quality | High |
| Mobile compatibility | Great |
The visuals are on theme, with modern graphics and advanced animations, like lightning bolts and exploding winning symbols. The music pairs nicely with the design, and the winning effects change with each successive win.
Audiovisuals rating
85/100 Engaging theme with great mobile compatibility
- Advanced animations
- Soundtrack can become monotonous
I absolutely loved the Greek mythology theme of the slot and the modern design. The main character is Zeus and he’s a very nice addition to the game, hanging out on the right and blasting lightning bolts onto the grid.
The visuals and the music work well to give you an immersive experience and you’ll find that the sound effects create excitement.
Especially in the Free Spins round, the visuals paired with the music emphasize the round’s importance.
After playing for some time though, the soundtrack can become a bit monotonous, and the animations, while modern, are all the same and repetitive. If you need more stimulation when playing, this might put you off a bit.
Game layout
The game features a 6×5 grid, making room for 30 symbols to appear on the screen at the same time. Seeing how you need to land eight symbols for a win, this increases your chances significantly.
Game layout facts
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Reel layout | 6×5 |
| Autoplay | Yes |
| Turbo mode | Yes |
| Ease of use | Very easy |
| Game history | No |
The ‘Autoplay’ button sits right below the ‘Spin’ button, and it features Turbo Spin. To the left of the grid, you’ll find the Buy and Double Chance features, and below them, you can adjust the game settings and find all relevant information before you start playing.
Game layout rating
98/100 A highly usable modern layout
- Extremely easy to use
- No Game History feature
Gates of Olympus managed to get an almost perfect score for the game layout, only losing a few points over not letting us see the game history.
The 6×5 grid is a nice change from the traditional 4×5 grid seen in most online slots, fitting 30 symbols on one screen. Since you need eight symbols for a win, you can even get multiple wins on one spin.
The ‘Spin’ button is prominently featured on the bottom, with the ‘Autoplay’ button under it, and I had no issues using any of the features. You’ll find that the button placement is very intuitive.
