Cash Voyage slot review summary

Cash Voyage is one of those slots where the design instantly draws you in. From the brightly colored bonus ladders that sit atop the reels to the animated background full of asteroids orbiting planets in an unknown galaxy, it’s evident that Ainsworth has put real effort into the visuals.

The space theme extends to the 5×3 grid, featuring neon-like planets and space station symbols, as well as astronaut wilds. Players can adjust the number of paylines to 50 or 100, which affects bet ranges ($0.50–$20 vs $1–$40).

Even if you’re not sold on the design, Cash Voyage’s RTP of 96.63% and bonus features are worth sticking around for. While wilds and scatters are to be expected from a modern slot, a ladder-based free spins round and a 4-tier jackpot system led by the $25,000 Grand prize surely spice things up for this high-volatility title.

Pros

  • Money Up symbol adds extra spin

  • Choice of 50 or 100 paylines

  • 96.63% RTP

Cons

Cash Voyage comprehensive review

If the general overview doesn’t cut it for you, my in-depth Cash Voyage slot review dives deeper into RTP, volatility, bonus features, symbols, and paytable. It also shows you how and where to play Ainsworth’s space-themed game.

RTP and volatility

The Cash Voyage slot RTP comes in at 96.63%. It’s a high-volatility game, so you can expect sporadic wins with more substantial payouts.

Time2play Expert Analysis

On paper, Cash Voyage’s RTP of 96.63% looks strong, especially for a slot with a 4-tier jackpot system. But in practice, the base game felt drier than usual, especially considering its RTP, which is above the industry standard.

A lot of it has to do with Ainsworth’s reputation for high-variance slots, and Cash Voyage is no exception. The game launches you straight into a highly volatile space, with the provider listing the standard deviation of 83.04.

That’s an extreme figure, and one I felt at every point during my testing. It resulted in multiple long stretches of dead spins or very minor payouts, only to be broken by a sudden, relatively high base-game win.

Bonus features

Ainsworth’s Cash Voyage doesn’t overload you with features. It keeps things fairly simple, with the main draws being the Money Up free spins and the 4 jackpot prizes woven into the top of the ladder.

Money Up feature

Cash Voyage’s Money Up is Ainsworth’s somewhat unique take on the bonus round, and triggering it requires landing 6 or more multiplier scatters. This awards 3 free spins, with every Money Up symbol you land during the bonus giving you an extra one.

Money Up also activates the mostly dormant ladders atop the reels, whose starting values are 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, and 10x your stake. Before the free spins kick off, the base ladder values are multiplied by the sum of all X1, X2, and/or X3 scatters that have triggered the bonus.

Besides awarding an extra spin, Money Up scatters also move you up the ladder, with progression directly tied to the number of symbols on that specific reel. And when you finally run out of free spins, Cash Voyage tallies up all 5 ladder prize values and pays out the total.

Fixed jackpot prizes

Cash Voyage has a fixed 4-tier jackpot system with the following values:

  • Mini: $10
  • Minor: $50
  • Major: $1,000
  • Grand: $25,000

But unlike most fixed jackpot slots, the prizes aren’t triggered by your standard payline combinations. Instead, they’re entirely tied to the last two levels of the prize ladder.

If you reach the second-to-last ladder level, special golden bonus symbols can appear on the reel below that specific ladder. These symbols trigger a spin that gives you a shot at:

  • One of the 4 jackpots as they are
  • A jackpot with a multiplier attached
  • General wins with a multiplier applied

For example, the bonus symbol on the penultimate ladder level could spin and become Major. This would return $1,000 plus any other winnings from the other 4 ladders. It could also turn into a Minor x5, which would give you $250, as the Minor prize is $50.

Time2play Expert Analysis

The Money Up feature is the absolute star of the Cash Voyage show, mostly because it drops the typical “collect coins and pray” mechanic in favor of a highly intense ladder climb. Getting there was brutal, though. Even though I kept the stake at $5, I almost burned through my entire bankroll before I ever caught a glimpse of 6 multiplier scatters.

Once I triggered it, a pop-up told me I won 3 free games. While the first 2 spins were dead ends, the third one resurrected the bonus with a Money Up symbol, which moved me up the ladder and gave me an extra spin. This repeated 4 times, and on 2 spins, multiple Money Up symbols appeared on the same reel, pushing the ladder prize up.

Unfortunately, my luck ran out way below the top tiers of the money ladders, so I didn’t get to see the rather unique jackpot system in action. However, I did manage to walk away with $80.

Symbols and paytable

Cash Voyage uses 9 fairly standard symbols, including 5 card royals (10, J, Q, K, A) as low-paying ones. High-paying symbols consist of meteor showers, space stations, space shuttles, and Saturn-like planets, as you’d expect from a space-themed slot. They pay out for combinations of 3–5 symbols on a payline:

Symbols3 matches4 matches5 matches
10, J, and Q$0.5$1$1.5
K and A$0.5$1$3
Meteor shower, space station, and space shuttle$0.5$1.5$5
Saturn-like planet$0.5$3$7.5
Astronaut wilds$0.5$5$20

These 9 regular symbols are joined by 3-size astronaut wilds, which substitute for all symbols except scatters, and 2 scatter types: X1, X2, and X3 multipliers and a rocket Money Up symbol.

Time2play Expert Analysis

Cash Voyage’s paytable is nothing to write home about. Astronaut wilds may offer decent payouts, but landing 5 of them is quite rare. In fact, I never even got 4 of them together, even with 100 paylines in play. Compared to Playtech’s Astro Babes, a similar 100-payline astronaut-style video slot, lining up more than 3 symbols felt quite challenging.

That said, I did appreciate the standard wilds substituting for everything but the scatters setup. There were more than a few spins that appeared dead at first glance, which the astronauts brought back to life. The best I managed was 2 Saturn-like planets connected to 2 astronauts, which paid out $43.75 on a $5 bet.

How to play Cash Voyage

Despite the bonus ladders taking up a big portion of the screen and looking a bit confusing at first glance, Cash Voyage plays like all other online slots. You just set the stake using the up and down arrows in the bottom right corner, and you can spin those reels.

The minimum bet with all 100 paylines active is $1, while the maximum is $40. However, you can also choose to play with 50 paylines, in which case bets range from $0.50 to $20. And if you prefer to kick back and relax as the reels spin, you can also tap the auto button next to spin and set 5, 10, 15, 25, or 50 auto games.

Expert verdict

While I’m not a fan of space-themed slots, I have to hand it to Ainsworth on this one. The colors pop out, and the animated asteroid belts orbiting the planets in the background are well done. That said, the astronauts could have definitely looked less goofy while floating toward and away from you, while circus-like win sound effects even started to annoy me after a while.

Gameplay-wise, Cash Voyage’s RTP of 96.63% doesn’t really help much when you’re dealing with high volatility. The base game was quite dry during my testing, and most of the excitement came from rare events. And even if Ainsworth clocks the feature hit rate at 1 in 81 games, the Money Up feature definitely felt more difficult to trigger than that.

Speaking of, I’m not sure how I feel about the fixed 4-tier jackpot system being tied to the peak of the ladders, which are only active during Money Up. In fact, both the ladder prizes and the Grand jackpot are almost entirely visual rather than functional, even if they take up most of the screen. Overall, the entire slot feels more generous in presentation than in payouts.
