The Dog House Muttley Crew is Pragmatic Play’s pirate version of its popular Dog House series. The familiar dogs are here, this time on a 5×5 grid with cluster wins, treasure chest Wilds, and a Free Spins round built around sticky multipliers.

In this The Dog House Muttley Crew slot review, I’m looking at how the new grid changes the usual Dog House setup, what the chest Wilds add to regular spins, and whether the Free Spins round gives this version a reason to come back.

The game uses a 5×5 Cluster Pays setup. Winning clusters form when 5 or more matching symbols connect horizontally or vertically on the grid. Payline adjustment is unavailable because wins are paid through clusters.

Time2play Expert Analysis

I have to admit I didn’t warm to this one straight away. The base game had enough going on, but a lot of it felt like small noise until a chest Wild landed near a group of matching symbols.

Free Spins helped the game make more sense to me. Once a chest stayed on the grid, I had something specific to follow, especially if it landed early and had time to connect again.

Next to the original The Dog House, Muttley Crew felt less simple and more up and down in a way. I still think the original is easier to like right away, but this one has the better bonus idea for me.

Bonus features

The Dog House Muttley Crew has treasure chest Wilds, multiplier Wilds, paw print Scatters, Free Spins, sticky Wilds, Scatter overlays, Free Spins retriggers, and a Bonus Buy feature.

The treasure chest is the Wild symbol. It can substitute for regular paying symbols and help complete cluster wins. Wilds can land with a 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x multiplier attached. When a Wild is part of a winning cluster, its multiplier is applied to that win. If more than one multiplier Wild helps the same cluster, the multiplier values are added together.

The paw print is the Scatter symbol. Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters triggers the Free Spins feature. Three Scatters award 10 Free Spins, 4 Scatters award 15 Free Spins, and 5 Scatters award 20 Free Spins. The Scatter trigger also pays 2x the bet.

During Free Spins, multiplier Wilds become sticky. Any Wild that lands stays in its position for the rest of the bonus round. Sticky Wilds keep their multiplier values, so early Wilds can affect several later spins.

Scatter overlays can appear during Free Spins. These overlays can land on top of regular symbols and count toward retriggers. Landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 Scatter overlays during the bonus awards 5, 10, 20, or 30 extra Free Spins.

The Bonus Buy feature is available at some casinos, depending on where you’re playing. Players can buy 10 Free Spins for 100x the bet, 15 Free Spins for 250x the bet, or 20 Free Spins for 500x the bet.

Respins, regular reel modifiers outside the Wild and Scatter features, and a gamble round aren’t available.

Time2play Expert Analysis

The bonus gave me more to react to than the regular spins. In the base game, the chest Wilds helped when they landed near the dog symbols, especially with a 5x or 10x multiplier attached. Free Spins had more pull here because each sticky Wild stayed on the grid and could connect with later clusters from the same position.

My best rounds started with an early Wild. Even a 2x chest helped if it landed in a good part of the grid, while a 5x or 10x made the bonus feel better right away. Late Wilds were less exciting to me because there was less time left for them to connect with anything. Retriggers helped most when a few chests were already locked in.

The three Bonus Buy choices make sense, although the 250x and 500x options felt expensive for a slot that can still give a quiet feature. I’d try the 100x buy first if I were testing the bonus. My favorite part was watching the grid pick up more chests as the round went on, even if some bonuses still ended with very little to show for it. It’s a yes from me.

Symbols and paytable

The Dog House Muttley Crew has 10 regular paying symbols. The lower-paying symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. The higher-paying symbols are the bone and four pirate dog characters. The top regular symbol is the blue-background dog.

Wins pay for clusters of 5 or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically on the 5×5 grid. The paytable uses 6 cluster sizes: 5-6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-19, and 20-25 symbols. Payouts are based on the total bet.

The treasure chest is the Wild symbol, substituting for regular paying symbols. It has its own top payout, with 25 Wilds paying 50x the bet. The paw print Bonus symbol is the Scatter. Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters starts Free Spins and pays 2x the bet.

Time2play Expert Analysis

After a few spins, the card symbols were just there for me. They hit here and there, usually for small money, and I didn’t expect much from them anyway. The bones and dog symbols were the ones that made the grid look better when a few landed close together.

The blue dog was the regular symbol I wanted most because it has the highest payout. On my maximum bet of $70, a 20-25 symbol cluster of blue dogs pays $3,500, so the difference between that and the card symbols was pretty obvious.

The chest Wild changed the spin more than any regular symbol. Even a low card cluster looked better with a 5x or 10x chest attached. In Free Spins, the chests became the main thing to follow because an early one could stay there and help again later.

Expert verdict

I’d go to The Dog House Muttley Crew for the Free Spins, not for the regular spins, which is, to be honest, something I was expecting anyway. The base game has enough small cluster wins to keep it moving, even if it rarely feels exciting until a chest Wild lands with a nice multiplier.

To me, the original The Dog House is still easier to sit with. It’s simpler, warmer, and faster to understand. Muttley Crew asks you for more patience because the good rounds usually need sticky Wilds early in the feature. It’s not a bad thing at all, just something worth noticing.

That is also why I liked it more after a few bonuses. A chest landing early in Free Spins changes the whole round, especially with 5x or 10x on it. Extra spins also feel more valuable here because they give those locked Wilds more chances to connect again. When the Wilds arrive late, the feature can feel boring, so if I were you, I wouldn’t treat every bonus like it’s about to pop up.

My verdict is this: I’d play the 96.50% RTP version with a smaller stake and let the feature decide whether the session deserves more time. The 7,500x max win gives Muttley Crew a stronger ceiling than the original, while the original still has that old-school charm. For me, The Dog House Muttley Crew is a slot for players who want a busier bonus and can handle a slower start.
