Pixies of the Forest slot review
Pixies of the Forest is a 5×3 slot that blends straightforward gameplay with hyper-realistic pixies. Developed by International Game Technology (IGT) in 2012, the game is an online adaptation of a land-based slot called Secrets of the Forest.
In fact, with simplified mechanics, the online version retains a very traditional feel when compared to more modern video slots. Featuring tumbling reels, 99 paylines, and an RTP of 94.90%, you can check out my full Pixies of the Forest review below.

Pixies of the Forest slot summary
Its quirky name, unique design, and classic look will immediately grab your attention, but the game’s main selling point comes from its 99 paylines that remain active at all times. This helps lower volatility, which creates more frequent but smaller wins.
Its RTP falls below the industry average and there isn’t much in the way of bonus mechanics, but that’s also part of its charm. The game’s simplicity and stripped-down features make it a good introductory online slot for beginners.
Plus, while Pixies of the Forest lacks the complexity and engagement of modern day slots, its straightforward gameplay makes things easy to follow and its cascading wins can still stack up decent returns.
Pros
Simple and straightforward gameplay
99 active paylines across 5×3 grid
Engaging Choose symbol mechanic
Cons
Below average RTP at 94.90%

Repetitive gameplay
Pixies of the Forest comprehensive review
In this comprehensive Pixies of the Forest review, I’ll be going over all the things that matter most to players. From its coin-based betting system and 99 active paylines to its RTP, volatility, and bonus mechanics, I’ll also tell you how the game performed in practice and whether it’s worth your time.
RTP and volatility
Pixies of the Forest comes with medium-to-low volatility and an RTP of 94.90%. The game is played on a 5×3 grid, with wins recorded from the leftmost reel across 99 fixed paylines.

Winning combinations require three, four, or five matching symbols.
Land-based slots are typically known for having lower RTPs compared to online slots. Unfortunately, Pixies of the Forest retains this trait from its land-based counterpart, with its RTP sitting 1.1 percentage points below the 96% industry average.
This isn’t the case for all IGT titles, but it’s also not uncommon. Slots like Cats (94%) and Cleopatra (95.70%) are prime examples of online slot adaptations with below-average RTPs.
Thankfully, Pixies of the Forest makes up for this with low-to-medium volatility and decent hit frequency. Across 100 test spins, I recorded a hit rate of 30%, including the bonus trigger. Wins were mostly on the smaller side but appeared regularly enough to keep me entertained. In between all this, I managed to land a few big wins along the way too.

Bonus features
Pixies of the Forest features tumbling reels, where winning symbols disappear and are replaced by new ones falling down onto the grid. This can result in cascading wins, allowing for multiple payouts before your next play.
Appearing on reels one, two, three, and four during the base game, the Wild symbol substitutes for all other symbols except the Choose Scatter icons. During the Free Spins bonus round, Wilds can also appear on the leftmost reel.

Speaking of free spins, you need to land at least three Choose Scatter symbols to trigger the bonus game. When this happens, you need to select one of the Choose symbols which will in turn reveal your number of free spins in the bonus game.
These free spins range from five up to 11. Once you select one, the other two Choose symbols will also reveal themselves, showing you what you could have had if you selected another one.
Aside from Wilds appearing on an extra reel, the Free Spins round largely mirrors the base game.
With no modifiers, respins, or multipliers, the game’s bonus features fall far short of what you would typically expect from modern day slots. I understand the idea was to keep things simple, but this barely meets the bare minimum.
The Free Spins round lacks value, with the only real benefit being the spins themselves, alongside a marginal increase in win potential from Wilds appearing on an extra reel. By comparison, even Da Vinci Diamonds, an IGT slot released back in 2012, includes multipliers and respins that can reach up to 300.
On a more positive note, the Choose Scatter symbols add a small interactive element that can also influence how your round will play out, but other than that, don’t expect too much.

Symbols and payouts
Pixies of the Forest uses a coin-based betting system. Your coin value is always multiplied by 33 coins, which will determine your total displayed bet. This also means that payouts from pay symbols are scaled based on your selected stake.
The game itself is home to seven pay symbols, with payouts rewarded for five, four, and three matching symbols on active paylines. There are four high-paying icons consisting of three fairies and the Pixies of the Forest logo.

The logo symbol is also the game’s highest-paying icon, rewarding 2,000x your selected coin value on active paylines for five matches. That’s equivalent to 60x your total bet. Four logo symbols pay 400x your coin value, while three matches will see you get 20x your coin value.
Next in line in terms of value is the purple-haired fairy which earns you 1,000x, 200x, and 15x your coin value for five, four, and three matches respectively. The brown-haired and blonde-haired fairies have payouts ranging from 400x down to 5x your coin value.
Depending on the number of matches, the three remaining low-paying card icons (A, K, and Q) have payouts ranging from 1x up to 40x your coin value.
The game’s maximum win potential is capped at 300,000 coins, with the final value depending on your selected coin value. This includes wins from cascading wins and the Free Spins round.

I always advise caution when assessing coin-based slots with fixed paytables, as payouts can appear more generous than they actually are. This isn’t intentional, but simply how more traditional or classic slots, like Book of Ra and Eye of Horus, display returns.
With that said, I think the high-end pay symbols in Pixies of the Forest carry decent payout potential. It’s nothing outrageous, but given the lack of bonus features, the game’s top-tier symbols do a lot of heavy lifting. The rest of the paytable drops off fairly quickly after that.
While there is some overlap among low-paying icons, I was pleased to see that there are no two symbols that share identical payouts across all three pay tiers.

Expert verdict
Pixies of the Forest isn’t exactly a trailblazer and while the game does have some redeeming qualities, it’s not something that comes to mind when I think about innovative slot titles. That said, I do think that the classic look and simple features make the game easy to follow, especially for beginners.
I also thought that the Choose symbols added a much-needed interactive element to gameplay. Plus, the 99 active paylines and lower volatility help maintain engagement with small, frequent wins, but for me, it just isn’t enough.
The sheer lack of bonus features during base play and a very stripped-down Free Spins round means that gameplay can get old real fast. It’s just too bare and repetitive for me, and once new players get accustomed to slot mechanics, I can see them moving on to bigger and better things.
