Expert verdict

Red Tiger’s Phoenix Fire Power Reels slot has a lot going for it. From paylines, to audiovisuals, to Wilds, a lot is going on but it all works together seamlessly.

The slot has many visual details that tie everything together. It’s well-designed and has vibrant symbols that bring it to life, especially when animated. The ambient music is also a great choice that keeps the energy going. The slot, in general, is well-laid out, with all you’ll need easily accessible.

The grid itself is also worth mentioning. Eight reels and six rows, allowing for 48 symbols on the grid. This creates opportunities for combo wins across the 30 paylines, helped by the fact that you can land a win anywhere on the reels, starting from either side of the grid or even in the middle. These features are not that common, and are a pretty unique combination together.

The Phoenix Fire Power Reels slot is also a big fan of Wilds, using different variations of them throughout the game. The Phoenix Wild can even transform winged symbols into Wilds, which maximized my wins more than once.

When it comes to payouts, the slot might not pay out that frequently since it’s got high volatility, but the RTP of 96.22% does balance that out. The payouts I did get were decent, and a few of them were quite big when my bet was only $2.

It’s the slot’s bet range, however, that lets it down. Starting at $0.20 and going up only as high as $40 is a limiting range, especially for high-rollers. The slot also has a max win potential of only 1,941.5x your stake, when I would have expected more from a slot like this.

  • Can land wins anywhere
  • Above average RTP
  • Phoenix Wild transforms other Wilds
  • High volatility
  • Bet range of $0.20-$40
  • Slot doesn’t pay out frequently

Phoenix Fire RTP and volatility

The Phoenix Fire Power Reels slot has an RTP of 96.22% and high volatility. To land a win, symbols need to land on one or more of the 30 paylines, from either side of the reels or in the middle.

Payout facts

CategoryDetails

Highest-paying symbolSilver Cup

The slot has eight paying symbols. The four lower-paying symbols are the Club, Diamond, Heart, and Spade. The remaining four symbols are a scroll, a ring, a book, and a silver cup. The minimum number of symbols needed for a win is three.

All four of the lower-paying symbols have the same payout values. These pay out 0.3x for three symbols, 1x for five, and 8x for eight. There’s a jump between the lowest and highest. Landing eight of the scroll symbol will award a payout of 20x, while eight of the silver cup awards 50x.

The Wild symbol also pays out x50 when landing eight symbols.

Payouts rating

80/100 Room to maximize wins
  • Potential for x50 payouts
  • Can land wins anywhere
  • High volatility
  • Slot doesn’t pay out frequently

A grid that can hold 48 symbols holds a lot of potential, as there’s room for so many more combinations. Even with just 30 paylines, I often had a lot of combined wins.

It does have high volatility so it didn’t pay out that frequently. I think I did land more wins than I expected to, however, thanks to being able to land a win not just starting from the lefthand side, but practically anywhere on the reels. This is a big plus for this slot as it’s not something you see that often.

The payouts are also pretty decent too. To start with, Phoenix Fire has higher base payouts than Red Tiger’s Phoenix. Landing just three of the lowest symbol pays out 0.3x, compared with Phoenix’s 0.1x. Although all four of the lowest symbols pay out the same, overall they pay out better than in Phoenix where the lowest symbols increase very slightly from one to another.

Considering that Phoenix Fire has a slightly lower RTP than Phoenix and a lower max win potential, I had better success landing wins.

Phoenix Fire Power Reels stakes

The Phoenix Fire Power Reels slot has a bet range of $0.20–$40. I checked out a few versions of the slot and they all had this same bet range, including the demo available on Red Tiger’s site.

To adjust the bet, click on the bet value and select the amount you want to bet from the list. At first, the bets increase in increments of 0.20: $0.20, $0.40, $0.60, $0.80, $1.00. After that, the increments are much bigger: $2, $4, $6, $8, before going up to $10, $20, and $40.

The slot has a max win potential of 1,941.5x your stake. With 30 paylines and the potential to land wins anywhere on the reels, there’s a lot of room to accumulate wins.

Stake limits rating

73/100 Expected more max win potential
  •  Decent starting bet of $0.20
  • Easy to adjust your bet
  • Low maximum bet of $40
  • Low max win potential

There’s a common trend in Red Tiger slots to have a small bet range. The max bet for Phoenix Fire is better than in Red Tiger’s Phoenix slot: $40 instead of $10. However, this is still quite a low max bet. Big Bass Bonanza, for example, has a max bet of $250.

The starting point of $0.20 is decent, but it could also be lower, to make entry more accessible for greener players or players who don’t have such a big budget.

There aren’t a lot of bet options between the minimum and maximum bet either, which really lowers the rating of this section. The bet values also increase in pretty big increments when you consider how small the range is. Starting at $0.20 and finishing at $40 with just 11 increments in between is not a lot and doesn’t offer much control over your bet.

The max win potential is also disappointing. With almost 50 symbols on the grid at the same time, 30 paylines, and the potential to land a win anywhere on the reels, a max win of 1,941.5x your stake is much lower than I’d expected. There are a lot of elements in this slot that could lead to big wins, but this max win feels limited.

Bonus features on Phoenix Fire Power Reels

Red Tiger’s Phoenix Fire slot has some distinctive bonus features that add some heat to the game.

Landing three of the Free Spins symbol will trigger the free spins round. Players are awarded seven free spins, but can win a further seven if three of the Free Spins symbol land during the free spins.

The slot also does a lot with Wilds. Phoenix Wilds can substitute for any paying symbol on the reels. There are many non-paying ‘winged symbols’ that appear in both the base game and free spins round. Should they land next to a Phoenix Wild, they will also be turned into a Wild. Up to three Phoenix Wilds can land at the same time during a free spins round, but only one during the base game.

Occasionally, if no Phoenix Wilds are present, a Phoenix will appear and will transform all the winged symbols on the reels into Wilds. This is called the Phoenix Wildfire feature.

Bonus features rating

55/100 Bonus features allow for big wins
  • Phoenix Wilds create more Wilds
  • Wilds can create big wins
  • No scatters or multipliers
  • Only seven free spins

This slot does a lot with Wilds. All its bonus features are somehow connected to Wilds and there aren’t any other kinds of features in the slot. There’s admittedly quite a lot happening in this slot but not having scatters or even multipliers does lower the score.

I liked the Phoenix Wild being able to transform the winged symbols. It’s the type of innovative feature that puts a fresh spin on a feature as common as a Wild. It happened a few times when I played, and a few of them created some big wins for me. One time I won $56.80 because the Phoenix Wild transformed five Wilds, allowing for wins on more than 10 paylines. Another time I had a win of $95 with a bet of $2 because I got 8 Wilds.

The free spins round is pretty hard to trigger and I only got it twice across all my attempts. It’s a fairly standard free spins round, although seven free spins is a little low. Red Tiger’s Fish n’ Fish has unlimited free spins.

The Phoenix Wildfire is also difficult to come by and didn’t happen once the whole time I played the slot. It sounds like a cool feature and one I would like, but it would be great to see it more often.

Phoenix Fire Power Reels audiovisuals

There’s a lot to talk about for audiovisuals on Phoenix Fire Power Reels. Everything in the slot connects to the phoenix and to mythology, making it a solid and cohesive slot.

There’s a lot of detail and texture on the symbols, which gives the slot a more modern feel. The background of the game window is an open scroll with detailed pencil illustrations of multiple phoenixes. The illustrations glow briefly every time you hit spin. The slot also has a rich color palette, making it vibrant and appealing.

The Phoenix Fire slot also comes with some nice animations and runs smoothly. For example, the free spins symbol and the Phoenix Wild always land with a thud and bounce the entire grid. Another example is when two free spins symbols land on the first reels, the remaining reels are on fire until they stop spinning to reveal the last free spins symbol. When there’s a win, the winning symbols are also on fire.

The slot also uses heroic ambient music throughout the game, with an upbeat jingle that plays over it while the reels are spinning. The game sounds are well-chosen for the slot too.

Audiovisuals rating

89/100 Detailed and vibrant slot design
  • Vibrant graphics
  • Modern animations
  • Slot is very busy
  • Music can be repetitive

This slot comes with a lot of flair. When you hit play, the game opens with a majestic phoenix that squawks before landing in a Phoenix Wild. There’s also a forcefulness in the slot, as the major symbols land with force and a thud on the reels, making the whole grid bounce. These kinds of details and animations are what make the slot immersive.

I liked the way this slot looks. It’s modern, it’s got details that all tie into the theme, and it embodies the mythology vibe perfectly. You can compare the slot with Red Tiger’s Phoenix, which was released just three years earlier, and it will immediately be more obvious which one is newer and more modern. In Phoenix, while the slot is detailed and looks like a watercolor painting, the slot just doesn’t have the edge that Phoenix Fire has, which is down to the quick and smooth animations and the refined visuals.

There are also some small details, like the winning symbols glowing with a soft flame and the phoenix illustration in the background, that come together to create a cohesive slot.

The music is well-chosen too. I liked the ambient track that played softly in the background, even when the reels weren’t spinning, it kept me in the game. The game sounds and jingles are all a nice touch and complete the game.

There is a lot going on in this slot, especially since there are 48 symbols, so if you prefer a more stripped-back slot, this might not be for you.

Phoenix Fire Power Reels game layout

Phoenix Fire is part of Red Tiger’s Power Reels series, featuring an 8×6 grid. This allows 48 symbols to appear on the grid at the same time. Wins are awarded from all adjacent paying symbols anywhere on the reels as long as they follow a payline pattern.

It was easy for me to get around the slot and find all the necessary details I was looking for, like the bet value, paytable, help, spin button.

Getting started in the game is straightforward too: just hit the spin button to get the reels going.  Autoplay is available to run hands-free for a bit, with the option to play up to 100 autospins. You need to set a loss limit and can also add two other additional settings: stop on a win above a certain amount and stop on a bonus feature. Turbo spin is also available.

The game works great on mobile. It runs smoothly and everything is nice and clear, especially in portrait mode. To play, hit the spin button or swipe down on the reels with your finger.

Game layout rating

94/100 Good game layout
  • Slot is easy to navigate
  • Autospin and Turbo Spin
  • No game history
  • Limited autospins

Finding your way around this slot is pretty simple. Everything, except the balance, is available under the grid. The balance, like all Red Tiger slots, is in the top left corner, which is a little out of sight but fine once you know where it is. All other details you’ll need are in the ‘Paytable’ and ‘Help’ sections.

There is autospin available, but the number of spins is a bit limited. Players can set 10, 20, 30, 50, or 100 autospins. This is a decent range, but some other slots allow for even more. Clash of Gods allows 500 autospins, and Dead or Alive 1 even has 1,000. The turbo spin really moves the game along quickly, bringing the spin results through almost instantly.

The game works great in portrait mode on mobile. The grid is nice and big and the buttons are easy to press. In landscape mode the game works well too, but the grid isn’t as big.
