Mighty Empire Hold and Win is an iSoftBet slot launched in 2023. True to this studio’s usual approach, it centers on a somewhat offbeat theme of Napoleon Bonaparte and builds the action around its familiar Hold and Win mechanic. Yet the 5×4 grid with 20 fixed paylines and a max win of 2,500x keep it in tame territory.

Mighty Empire Hold and Win review summary

Mighty Empire Hold and Win is a Napoleon-themed slot by iSoftBet. The visuals and audio evoke conquest, battle, and expansion throughout the game. Graphics are pristine on desktop and mobile, animations don’t go overboard, and the soundtrack brings the gameplay to life.

Despite the inconsistent volatility and an RTP of just 95.65%, the game still feels rewarding, especially at lower stakes. The Hold and Win bonus isn’t the easiest to trigger, but seems worth the effort, and Napoleon modifiers add just enough charm to keep the base game engaging.

I just wish the winning potential were higher than $2,500, or at least that the maximum bet didn’t cap out at just $20. The $50,000 maximum win simply doesn’t cut it, not only compared to other modern slots but also in light of this game’s conquest theme.

Pros

  • Fun, uncommon theme

  • Unique base game modifiers

  • Hold and Win bonus round

Cons

  • Narrow betting range

  • 2,500x winning potential

  • Inconsistent volatility

Time2play Expert Analysis

Even though Mighty Empire Hold and Win’s average RTP sits below the industry norm (∼96%), it doesn’t feel that way. I was up roughly $300 after around 100 spins, even though bets don’t go over $20, so it actually felt like I was playing a high RTP slot.

The volatility, on the other hand, was all over the place. At low stakes ($0.20–$2), smaller wins landed on every second spin for me. But as soon as I raised my bet to $6 or more, the hits diminished, while bigger wins didn’t step in to compensate. Even at $20, which is the max bet, the most I got was 10x, and that’s only after a long dry spell.

So, I’d stick with lower bets if I were you. This not only results in more dynamic gameplay but also in a more rewarding overall experience.

Wilds

Wilds are fleur-de-lis symbols that substitute all other base symbols, except the Scatters, to help you create more winning combinations. Since they have their own value, they can also produce wins without pairing with other symbols.

Scatters

In this slot, Scatters appear as different continent symbols with multipliers from 1x to 50x. If three or more land connected on consecutive or adjacent reels, they trigger the Hold and Spin Bonus. Keep in mind, their continents or multipliers don’t have to match for this feature to activate.

Hold and Win bonus

This bonus opens on a new 5×4 grid filled with blank spaces, which can only be filled with Scatters.

The Scatters that triggered the bonus carry over from the base grid and lock in place for the duration of the round. To symbolize conquest, they feature a French flag with the name of the conquered territory or country.

You start with 3 spins, which reset each time a new Scatter lands. Every new Scatter locks into place, as well. If it’s in an adjacent position, horizontally or vertically, to the original triggering symbols, it gets its own French flag. If not, it gets covered in chains with a padlock, offering no potential returns.

The round continues until you run out of spins or fill the entire grid. The multipliers on the French Flag symbols add up and apply to your bet to award you your bonus winnings.

If any of the reels is filled with French Flag symbols in its entirety, the multiplier attached to that reel (1x–10x) applies to all these symbols’ values individually and boosts your total wins. If the whole grid fills with French Flag symbols, you trigger the maximum win: 2,500x your bet.

Napoleon Bet

Napoleon Bet is Mighty Empire Hold and Win’s Bonus Buy-like feature. It lets you increase your chances of opening the bonus round for real money. You can turn it on by sliding the toggle on the left side of the grid, and paying $25 on top of every future bet you make.

Napoleon Modifiers

To help you bag more wins or trigger the bonus round, Napoleon Modifiers activate randomly during the base game:

  • The Collector modifier appears as a cannon that fires at 3–5 Scatters and awards you their values instantly.
  • The Lose to Win modifier fills a reel of losing symbols into a winning combination or feature.
  • The Attack Wilds modifier adds 4–10 Wilds to the grid.
Time2play Expert Analysis

If you’re not new to iSoftBet slots, chances are you’ll find the Mighty Empire Hold and Win feature set pretty standard.

Wilds and Scatters became staples in the slot scene long ago, and the Hold and Win mechanic is among the most-used in the iSoftBet catalog, next to Megaways. Just look at their popular releases, from Crabbin’ Crazy to The Magic Orbs.

Still, the lack of originality didn’t bother me. My biggest frustration was how much I struggled to trigger the bonus. It took 26 spins at maximum bet, plus the $25 Napoleon Bet fee, to open the Hold and Win round, which only ran for 7 spins.  While I managed to accumulate $500 worth of multipliers, I lost almost as much trying to get there, so it didn’t feel like much of a win in the end.

Napoleon modifiers, on the other hand, felt more rewarding. Yes, they’re not as numerous or as versatile as those in the famous Gold Digger, for instance, but when they hit, they really hit. The Collector and Attack Wilds popped within a handful of spins of each other, bagging up to $400, respectively.

Symbols and paytable

The Mighty Empire Hold and Win slot has 11 symbols, including 9 base ones and 2 special feature ones: Wild and Scatter. Besides the low-paying symbols, which are card faces that offer between 0.25x and 3x your stake, all the icons are inspired by Napoleon’s France.

The high-paying symbols include a war drum, a top hat, Napoleon’s horse, and Napoleon himself. At 2.5x–25x for a 3–5 symbol match, Napoleon and Wild symbols offer the best returns, without any special feature involved. Scatters don’t carry any value outside the bonus round.

The 5×4 grid counts matches from left to right, across 20 paylines, all active on every spin. The largest possible win is 2,500x, which translates to $50,000 with the maximum bet size.

iSoftBet’s theme and design choices are my favorite things about Mighty Empire Hold and Win. It’s not that there are no other conquest or battlefield-inspired slots out there, just that few focus on Napoleon’s France, especially in this much detail.

The closest comparison I can think of is Blueprint’s 2018 release Napoleon: Rise of Empire, but Mighty Empire is miles ahead in graphics and overall presentation. The theme seeps into every corner of the game, from the symbol lineup to the way the bonus round is organized.

With impeccable graphics and a great soundtrack in the mix, it really feels like you’re conquering the world alongside Napoleon, rather than just watching the reels spin.

At $0.20–$20, the betting range isn’t the widest, but that’s pretty common for iSoftBet slots. The 2,500x maximum win, however, is harder to excuse. After all, titles like Cresus Fortunes and Gaze of Gold Mega Hold and Win go as high as 8,320x and 15,000x respectively, even though iSoftBet released them just 2–3 months before Mighty Empire.

Expert verdict

Mighty Empire Hold and Win might not be the only slot inspired by Napoleon, but it’s unique in its design. The conquest and battlefield themes carry through the main and bonus rounds, shaping everything from the symbol set, Hold and Win mechanic, and modifiers to the accompanying visuals, soundtrack, and sound effects. At times, it feels more like a video game than a slot.

The RTP feels higher than 95.56%, so the gameplay feels rewarding, yet bets start low enough to make the game accessible to any player. Napoleon Modifiers are also a great touch, adding momentum to the base game.

Volatility is inconsistent, especially at higher stakes, where wins grow thin but not much larger. Still, my biggest issue with the Mighty Empire Hold and Win slot has to be its low maximum win.

The 2,500x is a modest win multiplier on its own, and combined with the $20 max bet, it really doesn’t produce incredibly enticing rewards, especially in the context of a war- and expansion-inspired slot.
