3 Royal Coins: Hold and Win slot review summary

Despite being very similar to its predecessor, 3 Royal Coins has upgraded the old Pile of Gold mechanic to the 3 Pots mechanic. Instead of a singular bonus feature, the game now has three separate Coin symbols, each signifying a unique feature and all part of the Bonus Game.

On top of that, Playson added the Buy Bonus mechanic, which you can use to purchase the bonus round. You can choose to purchase the round with at least one or all three features.

3 Royal Coins also has a fixed jackpot feature with 4 distinct jackpots, though the largest is only 1,000x your stake. The max win of the whole game is 10,000x, which is much better, while the 95.64% RTP is slightly below the usual 96% benchmark but still reasonable for a jackpot slot.

Pros

  • 3 separate coin features

  • Respins reset on coin hits

  • 4 fixed jackpots

Cons

  • RTP slightly below 96%

  • Top jackpot only 1,000x

  • High volatility on 3×3 grid

3 Royal Coins: Hold and Win comprehensive review

This change in the overall setup significantly changes the game. If you’ve liked the previous installment or are simply interested in what this slot has to offer, you should keep reading this full 3 Royal Coins: Hold and Win review. In it, I delve into the RTP, paytable, features, and more.

RTP and volatility

The 3 Royal Coins: Hold and Win RTP is 95.64%, which is lower than the industry average of 96% but still fair for a jackpot slot. Jackpots usually have lower RTPs, often below 95%.

VolatilityHigh

Volatility is high, meaning the game pays out infrequently but with higher amounts. The slot is played on a small 3×3 grid with only 5 paylines, and the maximum win is 10,000x.

Time2play Expert Analysis

I’ve become accustomed to seeing the same 95.64% RTP in the Royal Coins games and most other 3×3 slots Playson releases. It wasn’t a surprise that the percentage remained the same for 3 Royal Coins, and it’s still one of the highest values you can see in a jackpot game.

I can’t say I like that it pairs with a relatively small top jackpot, but the max win for the whole game is very good. It more than doubled compared to the previous release, and the 10,000x milestone is great overall, especially since the max stake is $100. A $1 million top win is certainly a nice round number, albeit reachable only in the bonus game.

As for the high volatility, it’s certainly a favorite of high-rollers and big risk-takers, but it doesn’t pair well with the 1,000x jackpot. It should be larger, given that the bonus game can pay you more than the jackpot.

Bonus Game

The jewel of 3 Royal Coins is the Bonus Game and everything else that comes with it. Coin and Special Coin symbols serve as the bonus-triggering symbols here, with 3 of them activating the Bonus Game.

Depending on which special coins you get, you’ll activate the corresponding feature. For example, if you land a Twin and Multi coin, you’ll trigger the Bonus Game with the Twin and Multi features. There are 3 features, each with a unique effect:

  • Expand: The game adds an entire row to the grid, turning it into 4×3. This significantly increases your chances of landing coins.
  • Multi: The feature adds multipliers on random fields on reels 1 and 3. The max multiplier is 32x, and it doubles every time a new one lands on the same field. They remain in their places until a coin symbol lands on them.
  • Twin: The feature creates a double, a twin of every Royal Coin symbol in the Bonus Game, effectively doubling what you win.

Once the Bonus Game begins, the special coins transform into regular coins or Royal Coins, and you get 3 respins. Each new coin symbol resets the counter to 3. The round continues until no respins remain or the 10,000x max win is reached, so it can stretch out if coins keep landing.

Jackpots

3 Royal Coins has a jackpot feature with four fixed jackpots:

  • Mini jackpot rewarding you 15x your bet
  • Minor jackpot rewarding you 30x your bet
  • Major jackpot rewarding you 100x your bet
  • Grand jackpot rewarding you 1,000x your bet

Any of these can be activated in the Bonus Game if you land their corresponding symbols. They are easy to identify, each coin-shaped with its jackpot name plastered over it.

Coin and Royal Coin symbols

The coins with a simple silver outline and a gold-inside design are symbols that can land randomly in the base game. They always land on reels 1 and 3 and come with a random multiplier of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, and 8x your stake.

Royal Coins can land only on reel 2, and they collect the values of coin symbols, including the jackpots. They can only appear in the Bonus Game, and all the wins they collect are added to the total tally of the mini game.

Time2play Expert Analysis

Even though it looks like there are many features in 3 Royal Coins, all the fun is concentrated in the Bonus Game. However, that doesn’t mean it’s bad. On the contrary, it’s an exciting round that can pay up to 10,000x, while regular prizes are still quite good.

The Bonus Game is not too difficult to trigger, as it comes when you land any 3 coin symbols on the grid. Plus, you can always buy it with a random number of features or all three for a hefty price of 200x the bet.

With all three features active, you get an extra row, Royal Coin collects can be doubled through Twin, and the game drops random multipliers that stick. Plus, like all slots with coin-based symbols and features, the round has three respins that reset every time you land a coin. It’s a favorite of mine because the round can keep going as long as new coins land, only stopping when the respins run out or the 10,000x max win is reached.

Symbols and paytable

Special symbols are generally coins in 3 Royal Coins: Hold and Win, but the rest are standard for fruit machines of old Vegas. This includes a 777 wild, various fruits, a bell, and the ubiquitous BAR symbol.

BAR and Bell symbols pay 20x and 30x, respectively, but the highest-paying symbol is the wild that pays 50x the stake. As for the rest, some of the fruits (watermelons and grapes) pay 16x, while the others (plums, oranges, and lemons) pay only 4x. The lowest are the cherries that pay only 1x.

Being a 3×3 slot, these values pay only when you land 3 of the same symbols on any of the 5 paylines. You won’t get a reward if you land less than 3, unless you combine them with a wild.

Exceptions are coin symbols, which pay exactly what’s on them, no matter how many you land. However, this needs to happen in the Bonus Game, and they are only there in the base game to trigger this special round.

Time2play Expert Analysis

If you like classic slots and the fruit machines of old, you’ll feel right at home here, although it can also get repetitive and feel uninspired. However, 3 Royal Coins fixes that by making you excited for the symbols precisely because of what they bring.

The base game does not hand out frequent line wins, but the top regular symbols pay strongly for a 3-reel game. Three cherries pay 1x, the mid-tier fruits pay 4x or 16x, BAR and Bell pay 20x and 30x, and three wilds pay 50x. That gives the base game more bite than a basic classic slot, even though the Bonus Game is still the main attraction.

I always like to see when wilds pay a lot, even though it’s hard to land all three on the limited number of paylines. Regardless, all of this makes the base game exciting enough, and there might even be instances when you forget you’re just waiting for the Bonus Game to kick in.

Expert verdict

3 Royal Coins: Hold and Win is a worthy continuation of the Playson Royal Coins series. It raises the ceiling with a 10,000x max win and a Bonus Game that can keep resetting as long as coins continue to land.

The base game can get a bit dull, primarily because it’s a high volatility slot with a large number of symbols and a tiny 3×3 grid, making winning combos hard to land. However, with the symbols being highly rewarding and you having the option to trigger the bonus for a price, 3 Royal Coins is definitely worth a try.

FAQs
