Big Bass Football Bonanza slot review summary

If you enjoyed the Big Bass series but are also feeling the World Cup frenzy, then consider Big Bass Football Bonanza the best of both worlds. The slot isn’t too far removed from the original slot when it comes to visuals, and it has actually translated into the world of sports pretty well.

Our beloved fisherman has donned a blue soccer kit, and many of the symbols have been revamped to fit the soccer theme. The tackle box, for instance, is now a kit bag. The Money symbols are still fish though, which is pretty amusing.

As for bonus features, they’re pretty much the same as the original Big Bass game. What’s different is the addition of a second Wild, giving you two Wild meters to fill and doubling your chances of re-triggering free spins. The slot RTP is 96.50%, which is very agreeable, as is the low volatility. There are only 10 paylines, which doesn’t allow for a high hit rate, but the maximum win is 5,000x.

Pros

  • Good average payouts

  • Engaging free spins bonus

  • Wide betting variety

Cons

  • Wilds only appear during free spins

  • Limited bonus features overall

  • 10 paylines

Big Bass Football Bonanza comprehensive review

My Big Bass Football Bonanza slot covers the RTP, volatility, its bonus features, symbols, and payouts. I also explain how the slot works and what you need to do to start playing.

RTP and volatility

The Big Bass Football Bonanza slot RTP is 96.50%. The same RTP applies if you’re using the ante bet feature or the bonus buy feature. It has low volatility and is played on a 5×3 grid with 10 paylines.

Time2play Expert Analysis

An RTP of 96.50% is good. It’s just above the industry average and means you’re getting a relatively balanced game. I was surprised that Pragmatic Play lists this slot as having low volatility. Based on my experience testing it, I felt it was closer to medium volatility, where the wins are less frequent.

The rest of the game is pretty standard when it comes to the Big Bass series: 5×3 grid, 10 paylines. I feel there’s definitely room to add more paylines in the series, but leaving them at 10 means the hit rate is pretty low. At least this slot has low volatility. The original Big Bass Bonanza slot has high volatility, which would make wins less frequent.

Bonus features

Big Bass Football Bonanza doesn’t stray too far from the original series when it comes to bonus features, but it has put its own spin on things.

Scatter

The Scatter symbol is a version of the World Cup trophy with the classic Big Bass fish on top in gold. Landing three or more Scatters triggers a free spins round. Landing three awards 15 free spins, four awards 20, and five awards 25 free spins.

If only two Scatters land, a re-spin can occur to bring another Scatter onto the reels. The reels with a Scatter move down one symbol position while the other three reels spin. This continues until the Scatters can’t move any further or until a new Scatter comes onto the grid. If a third Scatter appears, free spins is triggered. If not, the base game continues.

Free Spins, Wilds, and Money symbols

When free spins start, the two Wild symbols are introduced. The first is the fisherman from the Big Bass series wearing a blue soccer kit, the second is another soccer player in red. The Wild symbols only appear during a free spins round and can substitute for all symbols except for the Scatters and Money symbols.

The Money symbols are the fish symbols. During the base game, these award their own payout values, but during free spins, a random money value is assigned to each symbol. The possible values are 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 200x, 500x, or 5,000x the current bet.

During a free spins round, any Wilds that appear on the reels will collect the cash values from any Money symbols. If both Wild types appear on the reels, they both collect the cash values.

Each Wild symbol has its own collection bar. The blue Wild is above the grid and the red Wild sits below it. Every Wild that collects cash symbols is also collected by the respective bar and on the 4th Wild that’s collected, an additional 10 free spins are awarded. This also comes with a 2x multiplier for every Money symbol.

When another four Wilds have been collected, an additional 10 free spins are awarded along with a 3x multiplier. On the fourth level, a 10x multiplier is assigned along with the additional free spins. Once those free spins run out, the feature can no longer be re-triggered.

Some other random features can occur during free spins, too. For instance, when there are Wilds onscreen but no Money symbols, it’s possible for Money symbols to appear in random reel positions.

It’s also possible for the Bass-Zooka feature to trigger if there aren’t any Money symbols. The Bass-Zooka VAR animation will appear and transform all the symbols into other symbols, some of them becoming Money symbols. Wilds aren’t changed during this feature.

If there are Money symbols but no Wilds, a podium can appear which will pull a randomly selected reel up one symbol position to bring Wilds onto the screen.

Bonus buy

The buy feature can be used to buy a free spins round. There are three buy options:

  • Pay 100x the current bet for 15 free spins
  • Pay 180x the current bet for a regular free spins round with the Repeat feature at the end. This comes with the chance to randomly start the free spins from the beginning with the same amount of initial spins and potential random modifiers, while keeping all the wins awarded beforehand
  • Pay 300x the current bet for a Mega free spins round, where only three Wild symbols of any color collected in any meter are needed to retrigger the feature

Ante bet

With the Ante bet, you can choose the bet multiplier which can make the game behave differently.

  • 15x bet multiplier: chance to win a free spins round is higher, with more Scatter symbols on the reels
  • 16x bet multiplier: the Repeat feature appears at the end of a free spins round
  • 25x bet multiplier: higher chance to trigger a free spins round, with the Repeat feature at the end of it

The bonus buy feature is disabled when the Ante bet feature is active.

Time2play Expert Analysis

The bonus features are in line with the Big Bass series with very little deviation. This is kind of a letdown with the series in general, as the features are always being recycled, and there’s plenty of room to introduce new features.

What’s available in Big Bass Football Bonanza is good, though I’ve never understood why the Wilds only appear in free spins. Fortunately, in this slot there are two sets of Wilds, which double your chances of re-triggering free spins and double collections. Plus, the Money symbols can be worth up to 5,000x your bet, which is more than on the original Big Bass slot.

I personally prefer a slot that has bonus features distributed throughout the game, and not just when another feature is triggered. If that’s how you like your bonuses, I’d recommend trying Reactoonz.

Symbols and paytable

There are 10 paying symbols on Big Bass Football Bonanza. The low-paying symbols are the traditional card symbols: 10, J, Q, K, and A.

The 10, J, and Q have the same payout values, awarding $0.20 for three symbols when your bet is set to $1. If you get five symbols, it’s a win of $5. The A and K symbols pay out a little better. Three symbols still award $0.20 for a bet of $1, but five are worth $10.

The Money symbols have their own payout values during the base game. Landing three will award $1 for a bet of $1, while if you get five it’s a payout of $20. The next symbols show a much bigger jump in payouts.

The kit bag and soccer boots have the same payouts. These award $2 for three symbols and as much as $50 for five when your bet is $1. The whistle is next, awarding $100 for five symbols.

The soccer ball is the highest-paying symbol in the game, and the only symbol that requires just two symbols for a win. On a bet of $1, that’s a win of $0.50, but if you land three symbols it’s a win of $5. For five symbols, you’ll get $200 on a bet of $1.

When playing on a bet of $250, five soccer balls will award a payout of $50,000. The maximum win on Big Bass Football Bonanza is 5,000x your bet.

Time2play Expert Analysis

The payouts on Big Bass Football Bonanza aren’t bad. A payout of $200 on a bet of $1 for five soccer balls is a very decent payout.

The payments increase quite well, starting from the lowest, although I always feel it’s a waste when the bottom three, or even five, symbols all have the same payout values. That being said, Big Bass Football Bonanza has a maximum win potential of 5,000x your bet.

While that can offer quite a decent win, there are games out there with significantly better payout potentials. Immortal Romance is one example, with a maximum payout of 12,000x your bet. This, plus its more regular bonus features, make it a potentially more engaging slot.

Expert verdict

This slot can work for most players, even less experienced ones, thanks to its friendly slot RTP of 96.50% and low volatility. The betting range also allows room for players with bigger budgets, since they can bet up to $625. For players who are fans of bonus features, though, Big Bass Football Bonanza might not be the choice for you.

It’s not that there aren’t bonus features, but they’re totally reliant on the free spins feature. Otherwise, what’s available is good, even if recycled from previous slots. Wilds are always welcome, and the Money symbol collection feature can be quite lucrative. Especially since here, you’ve got two sets of Wilds to work with, which is a fun way to represent two soccer teams.

If you’re looking for a slot that’s World Cup themed, but not too complicated, Big Bass Football Bonanza is a good shout. The way the game has replaced the fishing elements with a soccer theme is playful and actually works pretty well, making it a big chunk of the allure to this slot. Plus, there’s the potential for some decent payouts.
