Hall of Gods slot summary

Inspired by Norse folklore, Hall of Gods is a classic jackpot slot that runs on a traditional 5×3 grid with 20 paylines. Despite dated visuals, the slot combines straightforward gameplay with engaging bonuses and solid payout potential.

During the base game, players can trigger up to 20 free spins, with additional spins available during the Free Spins round itself. Plus, the 3x win multipliers available during the round can help deliver strong returns, especially when combined with expanding Wilds.

As a progressive jackpot slot with three tiers, the game’s RTP sits slightly below the industry average. However, the interactive Bonus Game and its coin rewards keep things engaging, even if a jackpot doesn’t land.

Pros

  • 3 progressive jackpots

  • Expanding Wilds feature

  • Free Spins with 3x win multipliers

Cons

  • Below-average RTP

  • Limited to 20 paylines

  • Free Spins round can feel rigid

Hall of Gods comprehensive review

In this Hall of Gods slot review, I put the game’s volatility and RTP rating to the test. In doing so, I also break down its payouts, paytable, and bonus mechanics, which includes breaking down how its progressive jackpots tie in to overall gameplay.

RTP and volatility

The Hall of Gods slot RTP ranges between 95.30% and 95.70%. This is paired with medium volatility across a standard 5×3 grid with 20 fixed paylines.

After every spin, a portion of the player’s wager is added to the game’s progressive jackpot prizes: Mega, Midi, and Mini. A percentage of these jackpot contributions are then added to reserves, which are used to help fund the next jackpots after the current ones have been won.

When a Mini or Midi jackpot has been won, they reset to $100 and $5,000 respectively, with their respective reserve amounts added in. The Mega jackpot follows a tiered reset structure based on the size of its reserve when the jackpot is won.

Time2play Expert Analysis

The RTP at Hall of Gods sits below the industry average of 96%. While not great, it is still considerably higher than a lot of other progressive jackpot slots, including Mega Moolah Goddess by Microgaming (88.12%).

That said, at 20 fixed paylines, Hall of Gods does have five fewer lines than Mega Moolah Goddess. While not the worst, the limited number of paylines makes gameplay feel a bit repetitive and uninspiring at times, especially during the base game.

Elsewhere, after conducting 100 test spins, a hit rate of 43% suggested low volatility. However, with just under half of my wins returning 100 coins or more, my win distribution aligned more with the game’s medium volatility, with a mix of frequent hits, occasional dry spells, and mid-range payouts.

Bonus features

Hall of Gods features expanding wilds that appear on reels 2, 3, and 4 during the base game and Free Spins round. Depicted as a sea serpent, these Wilds cover the entire reel and substitute for all symbols except Scatters.

Speaking of Scatters, landing three, four, or five anywhere on the reels during the base game will award you with 10, 15, and 20 free spins respectively.

Shown as two ravens with the word ‘SCATTER’ written underneath, landing three, four, or five additional Scatters during the Free Spins round will earn you extra free spins. Plus, all wins come with a x3 multiplier.

Hall of Gods also comes with an additional bonus mechanic that plays a key role toward potentially winning one of the jackpot prizes. Represented by Thor’s Hammer and a wooden shield, landing three Bonus symbols during the base game triggers the Bonus Game.

Once triggered, the reels are replaced by a grid made up of wooden shields. You must use Thor’s Hammer to break the shields, with each one revealing either a coin value, Mini, Midi, or Mega jackpot symbol.

The highest coin value during the Bonus Game is 7,500x your line bet. Plus, your chances of unlocking one of the jackpot prizes increases with higher bet sizes and bet levels.

Time2play Expert Analysis

I felt like Hall of Gods struck a great balance between engaging features and straightforward mechanics. The expanding Wilds kept the base game interesting and overall, the bonuses were fun and interactive without being overly complicated.

The 3x win multipliers add consistent value to the Free Spins round. Sure, other NetEnt titles like Dead or Alive II offer more varied Free Spin bonuses with multiple modes and progressive multipliers, but Hall of Gods still offers a fun experience in my book.
And while there’s no Bonus Buy option, Hall of Gods does offer a good degree of player agency thanks to its Bonus Game where you use Thor’s Hammer to unveil prizes. This was a pretty cool feature and makes the game feel more hands-on and interactive.

Symbols and paytable

Halls of Gods features 10 pay symbols split between four high-paying Norse gods and six mid-to-low-paying icons consisting of one character symbol and several objects related to the mythology.

With 20 fixed paylines, the slot uses bet-line configuration with five bet levels and different coin values. All symbol values are displayed in coins, with the winning combination calculated by multiplying the paytable value with your bet level and coin value to determine the final payout in cash.

For instance, Five matches on the slot’s top-paying symbol, Odin, will earn you 4,000x your line bet, or 200x your total stake. Odin also pays 150x, 50x, and 10x your line bet four four, three, and two matches respectively.

Next up, Thor rewards 2,000x your line bet or 100x your stake for five-of-a kind. After that, Freya and Loki earn 1,500x and 1,000x your line bet for five matches. That’s equivalent to 75x and 50x your total wager, respectively.

Whilst high paying symbols reward payouts for two, three, four, and five matches on fixed paylines, the six remaining mid-to-low symbols feature one less payout tier and do not award payouts for two matches.

For reference, mid-to-low pay symbols have a payout range between 3x up to 150x your line bet, or 0.15x up to 7.5x your total stake. For perspective, four Odin matches sees a payout of 150x your line bet, equivalent to five Idun symbols.

The payouts for landing five matches on any of the top four paying symbols are definitely eye-catching. Even when factoring in line-bet configuration, the payouts range from 50x up to 200x your total stake.

That said, the drop-off from five to four matches is quite steep and something to bear in mind, especially considering that landing five-of-a-kind for top symbols is quite rare.

Mid-to-low paying symbols offer modest returns, but they help add to the variety of the paytable in my book. Plus, with no duplicate payout tiers, each pay symbol feels distinct and purposeful.

Expert verdict

Hall of Gods is a prime example of why you should never judge a book by its cover. Despite its outdated aesthetic and basic grid setup, I actually had a lot of fun playing it. Its features are engaging, easy to understand, and offer pretty solid winning potential.

The Free Spins round can feel a little rigid due to its fixed multiplier, but it can deliver good value. I enjoyed the agency afforded by the Bonus Game and while I didn’t actually land any jackpots, the coin rewards offered decent returns.

The biggest downside for me was the below-average RTP rates, and the pay symbols can feel a bit modest, especially on the lower end. That said, the top four high-paying symbols deliver massive returns for five-of-a-kind.

Overall though, despite the below average RTP and modest low-paying symbols, Hall of Gods still gets my seal of approval thanks to its ability to blend simple mechanics with engaging and rewarding features.
