The strange thing is that the max win is lower than the old game. The original goes up to 12,000x, while this one stops at 5,000x. What this version gives you instead is more happening along the way: more ways to win, more prize symbols, the Free Spins gamble, and the Golden Collect respins.

I’d treat this as the more active version, not the bigger-payout version. If I wanted the highest ceiling, I’d go back to the original slot.

I’d be careful with the Free Spins gamble. If the game gives me a tiny number of spins, I’d probably try to push it higher. If the number is already ok, I’d take the round. Losing a good trigger before Free Spins even starts would annoy me too much, to be honest.

Mustang Gold Megaways uses ways to win, so you are looking for matching symbols across reels. The number of possible ways changes on each spin because the Megaways reel height changes.

The lower-paying symbols are the card royals: J, Q, K, and A. These give the smallest regular returns and mostly help create frequent lower-value wins.

The stronger regular symbols are the cowboy, cowgirl, black mustang, and white mustang. The white mustang is the highest regular paying symbol, with a six-of-a-kind win paying 5x the bet.

The paytable took me about a minute to understand. The lower card symbols pay the smallest wins, so I moved past them pretty quickly. The white Mustang was the regular symbol I wanted most, and the Wild helped when a spin kept going after a win.

I didn’t spend much time on the smaller symbols, they mostly fill the reels until something better lands. Once a few cash values showed up, my spins got more interesting right away.

Expert verdict

Mustang Gold Megaways gave me a busier version of the original Mustang Gold formula. The Western theme is familiar, the controls are easy to understand, and the Megaways format gives regular spins more life.

I still wouldn’t treat this as the bigger game just because it has Megaways in the name. The original Mustang Gold has the higher max win, and that does count for something. This version is more about having more things happen before and during Free Spins. That made it easier for me to stay with it, even when the game wasn’t paying much.

I’d play it with a careful stake, mainly because high volatility can make even a fun slot annoying fast. Mustang Gold Megaways is easy to follow, busier than the original, and better when you want more going on than the old Collect feature.
