Most people remember The Goonies as an eighties adventure about a group of kids chasing pirate treasure. Blueprint Gaming turned that idea into a slot with lots of features and a progressive Jackpot King in the background.

In this The Goonies Jackpot King slot review, I’ll break down how the game plays. That includes the RTP and volatility, the bonus wheel and feature rounds, and how the Jackpot King network connects to it.

The Goonies Jackpot King slot review summary

The Goonies Jackpot King uses a 5×3 layout with 20 fixed paylines and a branded setup based on the 1985 movie. Blueprint Gaming keeps the base game simple, with regular symbol wins and larger payouts through the feature rounds.

Three scatters trigger One-Eyed Willy’s Bonus Wheel, which can award cash prizes, free spins, pick bonuses, wild features, or access to the Jackpot King game. The slot also includes wild reels, colossal symbols, mystery-symbol changes, Jackpot King crown respins, and some bonus rounds built around scenes and characters from the movie.

The larger win potential comes from the progressive Jackpot King prize, which is shared across Blueprint’s jackpot network and changes as players spin.

  • 6 bonus rounds included

  • 12+ modifiers active

The Goonies Jackpot King comprehensive review

In this The Goonies Jackpot King review, I’ll go through how the game is structured and what happens when you spin. I’ll also cover the symbols, payouts, and what shows up during free spins.

At first, I played this one at around $2 a spin, which is my usual starting budget, and it became obvious pretty fast what the game was doing. The early hits came often enough to see the reels moving, most of them landed light. I was watching the balance slip down in small pieces while waiting for a feature to come in and give my game some spark.

The 96.06% RTP feels fine for this kind of slot, and the medium volatility makes sense once you’ve played it for a while. Some parts felt slow, as expected, then a feature round came in and gave part of the balance back.

I had a similar run on Wolf Gold. The difference with The Goonies Jackpot King is that the returns are spread across several features, so the value depends a lot on which bonus lands.

Bonus features

The Goonies Jackpot King combines the original Goonies feature set with Blueprint’s Jackpot King Deluxe system. In total, the game includes 12 core features, split into 6 base-game modifiers and 6 Prize Wheel bonus rounds, plus the separate Jackpot King Deluxe feature.

The main trigger is 3 or more bonus scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, which activates One-Eyed Willy’s Prize Wheel that decides which bonus round you enter.

During regular spins, one of six base-game modifiers can apply before the result lands that can trigger on their own and sometimes act as a bridge into the bonus wheel:

  • Chunk’s Truffle Shuffle: overlay wilds added across reels
  • Data’s Colossal Symbols: a 3×3 symbol that breaks into matching symbols
  • Mikey’s Hidden Treasure: stacked wilds or full wild reels
  • Mouth’s Lucky Coins: mystery coins revealing matching symbols
  • Sloth’s Win Spin: super-stacked Jolly Roger symbols
  • One-Eyed Willy’s Bonus Boost: extra bonus symbols added

Once the wheel is triggered, it can land on one of six bonus rounds:

  • Fratelli Hideout: pick three keys for cash, exit, or tunnel rewards
  • Skeleton Organ: pick symbols with multipliers, upgrades, and key extensions
  • Super Sloth Free Spins: modified reels with symbol pushes and upgrades
  • Goonies Go Wild Free Spins: top symbols convert into wilds
  • Inferno Free Spins: 1 to 3 reels turn fully wild
  • One-Eyed Willy’s Treasure: multiplier bonus that builds until a trap ends it

Separate from all of that, the Jackpot King Deluxe feature can trigger with 5 Jackpot King symbols on an active payline. This starts a crown collection sequence where crown symbols accumulate during the feature. Reaching 15 crowns unlocks the Wheel King stage, where a prize wheel awards one of several outcomes, including the top progressive tier.

There’s no bonus buy feature. Some bonus rounds include collect-or-continue choices, where you can take the current win or move into another feature. Free spins only come through the Prize Wheel, and the modifiers, wheel, and jackpot feature can all connect within the same flow.

Time2play Expert Analysis

This is one of those Blueprint slots where I feel the feature load immediately. I’m never far from something happening. A modifier lands, symbols shift, coins drop in, then boom and I’m one symbol away from the wheel.

The Prize Wheel is the best part in my opinion, my own personal jackpot. The pick bonuses are quick, while free spins have more happening because the reels can fill up and lead to a bigger hit.

The features don’t hit the same. Inferno Free Spins and Sloth spins can push stronger results, while others resolve quickly and move you back to the base game. You can see which ones you want to land and which ones are just here on the way to something better.

Symbols and paytable

The Goonies Jackpot King uses a 5×3 layout with 20 fixed paylines, so each spin has 15 symbol positions. The paytable uses 4 lower royal symbols, 4 higher treasure/pirate symbols, a wild, a Jolly Roger symbol, bonus scatters, and Jackpot King symbols.

The lower-paying symbols are the royals: J, Q, K, and A. For three, four, or five of a kind, they pay:

  • J: 4x, 10x, or 50x the stake ($2, $5, or $25 on a $0.50 bet)
  • Q: 4x, 10x, or 50x the stake ($2, $5, or $25 on a $0.50 bet)
  • K: 8x, 40x, or 100x the stake ($4, $20, or $50 on a $0.50 bet)
  • A: 8x, 40x, or 100x the stake ($4, $20, or $50 on a $0.50 bet)

The higher regular symbols are the scales, skeleton, ship, and treasure chest. For three, four, or five of a kind, they pay:

  • Scales: 10x, 60x, or 200x the stake ($5, $30, or $100 on a $0.50 bet)
  • Skeleton: 10x, 60x, or 200x the stake ($5, $30, or $100 on a $0.50 bet)
  • Ship: 20x, 80x, or 300x the stake ($10, $40, or $150 on a $0.50 bet)
  • Treasure chest: 20x, 80x, or 300x the stake ($10, $40, or $150 on a $0.50 bet)

The wild is one of the top-paying symbols and also substitutes for the regular paying symbols. It pays from two of a kind. The Jolly Roger has the same payout structure and can also pay from two of a kind:

  • Wild: 2x, 40x, 100x, or 500x the stake ($1, $20, $50, or $250 on a $0.50 bet)
  • Jolly Roger: 2x, 40x, 100x, or 500x the stake ($1, $20, $50, or $250 on a $0.50 bet)

The biggest fixed paytable result comes from five wilds or five Jolly Rogers, paying 500x the stake. On a $0.50 bet, that’s $250.

I figured out the paytable pretty quickly. After a few spins, it just came down to the low cards. I didn’t pay much attention to J, Q, K, or A. They hit often, but the returns stayed small. On a $2 spin, even a full line for $100 didn’t feel like much once I saw how it lands (which is once in a blue moon).

Things picked up when the chest, ship, wild, or Jolly Roger showed up. That’s where a spin could actually turn into something to keep you in the game. I liked that the wild and Jolly Roger pay from two of a kind, so I still get something back even without a full line.

Once I saw two bonus symbols, I stopped watching the line win and just watched the reels for the third one. Same with the Jackpot King symbols. They feel like a separate lane from everything else, so when they show up, your focus shifts right away.

How to play The Goonies Jackpot King slot

Start by opening the game and checking the control panel under the reels. The Goonies Jackpot King uses a 5×3 layout with 20 fixed paylines, so you don’t need to choose paylines before playing.

First, set your bet with the stake controls. Use the arrows near the bet display to raise or lower your total stake per spin. Next, press the spin button, the glowing circle with a green arrow on the right side of the display. Wins are paid from left to right across the fixed paylines, and any win from that spin is added to your balance automatically.

Use autoplay if you want the game to run several spins with the same bet. The autoplay menu can run 10 to 100 rounds.

Expert verdict

The Goonies Jackpot King slot is exactly what I expected: treasure map, pirate stuff, movie easter eggs everywhere, like I accidentally opened a board game. The theme does help, though. The slot actually uses the movie well, with the kids, One-Eyed Willy, pirate treasure, ships, keys, tunnels, and that whole “please let one more symbol land” feeling I liked a lot.

The Prize Wheel was easily the main pull for me. Three bonus symbols opened the door, then the game could throw me into one of several rounds. I liked that variety, very “you found treasure, congrats, here’s seven dollars and a skull.”

The Jackpot King side gives the whole game its bigger hook, although I treated it like a lottery-style extra as I never really aim for it. I know the hit rate is small, yet my eyes still go there.

I’d play The Goonies Jackpot King again for the theme, the Prize Wheel, and the features. I wouldn’t treat it like a slot built for huge returns. It works best when you want a busy Blueprint game with several nice features and a progressive prize in the background like a bait.
