Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin slot review

Checked by Paul P.

IGT brought the Wheel of Fortune slot to the market in 2015. Despite its age, however, this slot has some unique and innovative features that allow it to compete with some of today’s more modern games.

Its RTP of 96.08% and medium volatility work together for probable frequent payouts, with just three symbols needed to land a win, and a maximum win of up to 10,000x your stake.

RTP and volatility of Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin

The Wheel of Fortune slot machine’s average RTP is 96.08%. When testing out the slot, however, I did find some demo versions and casinos that said the RTP was between 92% and 94.04%. Always check the RTP at your casino before you start playing, as it ranges quite a lot.

An RTP of 96.08% paired with the slot’s medium volatility should create some balance, giving probable decent and more frequent payouts over time.

VolatilityMedium

Wheel of Fortune has nine symbols. The five lowest-paying symbols are classic fruit symbols, with the banana and the plum paying out just 5x your stake when you land three in a row.

The higher-paying symbols lean into the game show theme and are all things people might win on a game show, like a car and a yacht. The Wheel of Fortune symbol is the highest-paying symbol, paying out 2,000x your stake when landing three, and as much as 10,000x your stake when landing five of the symbol.

Landing a win is brought about by three or more symbols, which can fall starting from either side of the grid.

Payouts rating

83/100 Good RTP with potential for big payouts
  • Wins start from both sides
  • High 10,000x max win
  • Average wins in base game are small

The 96.08% RTP is good as not only is it in line with the industry average, but it also balances out the game.

You should be aware that this online slot has a ranging RTP. Anything below 96% is considered low, so this will affect your payouts as it increases the house edge and lowers the theoretical percentage you could win back.

Despite that, most demos I came across worked with an RTP of 96%, which works well with the medium volatility to pay out frequently. I landed a win fairly often, even if some of them were on the smaller side.

Generally, the payouts for this slot are quite average, with the middle-of-the-road symbols paying out 10, 25, and 100x for three, four, and five symbols respectively. This will work just fine for newer players who lack confidence with high-stakes games.

I appreciated that there is quite a jump between the low and high-paying symbols, where suddenly landing just three Wheel of Fortune symbols pays out 2,000x. This jump shows there’s potential for some fairly big wins – an aspect of the game that will be more popular with high-rollers.

In fact, during my time playing the slot, I had plenty of smaller wins, some as small as $0.15, but I did also have some much bigger wins that boosted my bankroll.

The game has 720 ways to win thanks to IGT’s MultiWay Xtra. Being able to land a win from both sides of the grid increases your chances, as there are no limits to where your symbols can fall.

Stakes at Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin

The coin value in Wheel of Fortune goes from 0.1–10, which directly alters the bet from 0.50–500. There were demo versions that I came across that had a bet range of 0.50–2,000, so be sure to check the betting range available to you when you start.

With a maximum win of 10,000x paired with a max bet of 500, players could see wins as big as $5,000,000. It’s important to note that the maximum win cap can be adjusted by the casino according to your jurisdiction rules, so be sure to check that out.

Stake limits rating

85/100 A bet range for all budgets
  • High stakes for high-rollers
  • Can’t select paylines

A bet range that starts at 0.50 is a little higher than some other slots that start at 0.10, like Big Bass Bonanza. Although it might be a little disappointing that it’s not lower, it’s not the worst either.

Wheel of Fortune at least makes up for it with its maximum stake of 500. Big Bass Bonanza only goes as high as 250.

Wheel of Fortune also has a good range of coin values, which can be adjusted in small increments of 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.05, and 0.10 to start with.

This allows inexperienced players to start with smaller amounts and adjust their bet incrementally according to their comfort. At the same time, the wide bet range also gives high-rollers the space to play with higher numbers.

Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin bonus features

The Wheel of Fortune slot machine comes with some innovative bonus features, which serve to maximize your wins. These bonus features are triggered randomly and often more than once throughout a game session.

The Mini Wheel Bonus game is triggered when three or more Scatters land anywhere on the reels. The Scatter symbols become mini wheels of fortune that spin in place on the reels, each one having a different range of coin values to win. The chosen coin values are added together and multiplied by the current coin bet.

The Triple Extreme Spin Bonus game is triggered by landing at least three Bonus symbols. In the bonus game, players choose a minimum of three out of 12 envelopes. The number of envelopes you choose is according to the number of Bonus symbols that triggered the bonus game.

Each envelope contains either a red, blue, or yellow wheel pointer that corresponds with one of the three wheels in the bonus game. The red and blue wheels indicate coin values, and the yellow wheel is a multiplier. The yellow wheel can pay out multipliers from 2x up to 10x.

With the red and blue wheels, you can have a maximum of three pointers each — if you get more than three, the additional pointers are awarded at fixed values of 250x the coin value for red and 100x for blue. After the fourth blue pointer, the fixed value is 200x the coin value.

The wheels spin, and the chosen values are combined for what could be a big payout. There’s also a Wild symbol, which can land on reels two, three, and four. This can substitute for all symbols except the Wheel of Fortune, Scatter, and Bonus.

Bonus features rating

70/100 Bonus features breathe new life into classic theme
  • Wilds increase chances
  • Bonus games can award big wins
  • No Gamble feature
  • No traditional free spins

The bonus features are Wheel of Fortune’s biggest attraction. They were my favorite element of the game as they bring something quite fresh and innovative in a game theme that’s been done before.

The bonus features also created opportunities for me to land some pretty big wins, some as big as $2,500, others bigger.

Two mini bonus games give players something to hope for each time one of the symbols falls onto the first reel. I found the Triple Extreme Spin Bonus game was triggered more frequently than the Mini Wheel Bonus.

Two Scatters at a time land very frequently, but three or more are not so frequent. Still, it was these two mini-games that gave me some of my biggest wins.

The gamification element that’s introduced with the envelopes is also a great touch. Its immersiveness kept me engaged.

The bonus games are all there is, however, as the Wheel of Fortune slot doesn’t have any free spins, respins, or any other kind of bonus features, apart from the wilds. If these features were available, this slot would have the perfect package.

Audiovisuals of Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin

Wheel of Fortune’s graphics and audio are fitting for its theme. There are basic animations throughout the slot, especially when the mini-bonus games come into play.

In terms of audio, there’s a funky background track that fits in with the game show theme, along with typical casino sounds. There’s also a game show host who speaks during the mini-games, with the added touch of an applauding audience.

Audiovisuals rating

73/100 Audiovisuals nailed the theme
  • Music is on theme
  • High-quality graphics
  • Music gets repetitive
  • Animations a bit busy

A lot of thought went into the way this slot looks and sounds. The whole look and feel is designed to immerse the player in a game show scenario, and I think it does a pretty good job.

Visually, everything just pops and the colors are great. It’s not that the symbols or grid are particularly detailed, they’re actually fairly simple. But there are a lot of elements working together, and the graphics are pretty good.

The addition of the game show host’s voice and a cheering audience is an unexpected surprise. It complements the theme and music while building hype. The background music could get a bit repetitive, but it’s easily muted.

As for the animations, these are a pretty necessary element, given all the spinning wheels and moving parts in this game, but some players may find them excessive as they do take their time.

Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin game layout

The Wheel of Fortune slot machine has a fairly unique layout. The grid is made up of five reels, with 5 rows of varying lengths. The rows are based on a 3-4-5-4-3 layout, allowing 19 symbols to appear on the grid at once. IGT’s innovative MultiWay Xtra feature allows for those 720 ways to win, even with the varying rows.

Navigating the slot is pretty intuitive, with all the necessary details easily found in the Paytable and Game Rules.

The slot can be played manually by hitting the Spin button, but Autospin is available for players who want to go hands-free. This is set by first determining the number of spins and then selecting a loss limit. Players can optionally choose to also stop if a single win exceeds a certain amount.

On mobile, players will find the game adapts well to a different screen size. Everything is available with the tap of a few buttons.

Game layout rating

94/100 Comfortable slot with a unique grid layout
  • Adjustable autospin
  • Innovative layout
  • No game history
  • No turbo spin

Getting around the slot was pretty simple as everything was within reach. I found all the information I needed quickly, and it’s all explained quite well. This was pretty easy to find on mobile too.

It’s a neat game layout, to make more room for the grid on a smaller screen, but the instructions can be found in a handy drop-down menu at the top, with the Autospin and bet range at the bottom.

Starting the game is a standard press of the Spin button, but it’s good to see a customizable Autospin function too. It always benefits players who need to work with a smaller budget or want to exercise some control.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a Turbo Spin feature, so you do need to wait for every spin to play out, all animations and jingles included.

The slot’s grid layout is fairly unique, with its 3-4-5-4-3 rows across five reels. Compared to the traditional 5×3 grid found on most slots like Fortune Charm and Invaders from the Planet Moolah, Wheel of Fortune managed to add an extra four spaces for symbols with this staggered design.

Expert verdict

US players might find a feeling of nostalgia in the Wheel of Fortune graphics, but the innovative Mini Wheel bonus brings a fresh feel to the slot, while also maximizing your wins by up to 3,850x.

The slot transports and immerses the player in the game show, paired with 720 ways to win with IGT’s MultiWay Xtra. Being able to land wins from both sides of the grid, instead of the traditional left-most reel only, is unusual and can work with you rather than against you.

It has a wide betting range that starts slow and small, welcoming players of all budgets, who can adjust their bet as it suits them.

There are, of course, some downsides to this game, such as the lack of free spins or a turbo spin feature, which I felt was particularly lacking considering the number of animations on this slot. The average wins in the base game also tend to be small, given the low stakes and medium volatility.

  • 10,000x maximum win
  • Can land wins from both sides
  • Unique Triple Extreme Spin bonus feature
  • Audio can be repetitive
  • Average wins are small
  • No turbo spin
