Wolf Run slot review 2026
Wolf Run is one of IGT’s old casino classics, where you see wolves on the reels, a mountain in the background, and 40 paylines with a 5×4 layout. The feature set is small and simple, with stacked wilds and a five-spin bonus round as the main features.
In this Wolf Run slot review, I’ll break down the RTP and volatility, how the wolf wild works, what the bonus scatters trigger, and what the paytable looks like. I’ll also cover how the slot feels over a decade after its original release.

The Wolf Run slot review summary
Wolf Run has that older IGT feel right away: wolves on the reels, a mountain behind them, 40 paylines, and a bonus round that gets straight to the point. The game looks and moves like something I’d expect to find in a casino, a simple familiar screen and very little noise around the reels.
Most spins come down to line wins and stacked wolf wilds, and that’s where the slot starts to pick up. A few stacked wilds in the right place can turn a “nothing special” spin into something with a bit of money on it, especially with 40 paylines crossing the grid.
The free spins round gives you five spins after the Bonus scatters land. It’s quick, and the value mostly depends on whether the wilds show up while the feature is active.
Pros

The Wolf Run comprehensive review
In this Wolf Run review, I’ll go through the base game, stacked wolf wilds, and the free spins round. I’ll also cover the symbol values, payout setup, and how the game feels once you play it for a bit.
RTP and volatility
Wolf Run has an RTP of 94.98% and uses a 5×4 layout with 40 paylines, paying from left to right across active lines.

| RTP | 94.98% |
| Maximum win | 1,000x |
| Number of paylines | 40 |
| Volatility | Medium |
The volatility is low to medium.
Wolf Run gave me a lot of small movement early on. Nothing huge, just enough line wins to keep the balance from going down too fast. The 40 paylines help with that because even average symbol drops can give back a few small payouts.
The RTP is where the game feels older to me. 94.98% is playable, but it’s lower than what I’d want from a slot I’m returning to often. I didn’t feel punished every few spins, but I also didn’t feel like the game had much room to give.
The volatility makes sense once the wolf stacks start appearing. I had a similar feeling with Raging Rhino by WMS, where the animal theme is doing part of the charm and the bigger hits depend on wilds lining up. Wolf Run feels less aggressive, though. It gives you smaller signs of life more often, then surprises you with the wolves.

Bonus features
The Wolf Run slot includes stacked wilds, bonus scatters, free spins, a free spins multiplier, and retriggering free spins. Wolf Run uses a howling wolf symbol as the wild. The wild substitutes for regular paying symbols and can appear stacked on the reels.
The Bonus scatter is the Dream Catcher symbol. It appears on reels 2, 3, and 4. Landing one bonus scatter on each of those reels triggers the free spins feature.

The free spins feature awards 5 free spins. Wins during free spins are paid with a 2x multiplier. The feature can retrigger when the bonus scatters land again during the round.
The bonus side of Wolf Run is very small, which actually made the game easier to test. I wasn’t waiting for five different features to introduce themselves. It was wolves and dreamcatchers, that’s the whole chase.
The wild stacks were the main thing I kept watching. A single wild helped, but the full stacks changed the spin much faster. With 40 paylines crossing the screen, one good stack could pull a few small wins together, and two stacks made me sit up a bit.
The free five spins go fast, especially when the first one lands flat. The 2x multiplier gives the round a purpose, though, so I was excited when the feature started. I wanted wolf stacks early, then more dreamcatchers before the round ended. Very simple, very classic IGT. Also a bit annoying when the bonus finally lands and then vanishes.

Symbols and paytable
Each spin of the Wolf Run slot has 20 symbol positions across the reels. For this review, I’m using a $7 total bet and a $100 total bet. Since Wolf Run has 40 paylines, that works out as $0.175 per line on a $7 spin and $2.50 per line on a $100 spin.

The lowest card symbols are 9, 10, J, and Q. They pay:
- 3 symbols = 5x line bet ($0.88 and $12.50)
- 4 symbols = 20x line bet ($3.50 and $50)
- 5 symbols = 100x line bet ($17.50 and $250)
The A and K symbols have a higher payout at four and five symbols:
- 3 symbols = 5x line bet ($0.88 and $12.50)
- 4 symbols = 50x line bet ($8.75 and $125)
- 5 symbols = 150x line bet ($26.25 and $375)
The two totem symbols pay:
- 3 symbols = 20x line bet ($3.50 and $50)
- 4 symbols = 75x line bet ($13.13 and $187.50)
- 5 symbols = 250x line bet ($43.75 and $625)
The black wolf and white wolf symbols share the same payout values. 3 symbols pay 25x, 4 symbols pay 100x, and 5 symbols pay 400x line bet.
The howling wolf wild substitutes for regular paying symbols and can appear stacked on the reels. For 3 symbols, it pays 50x line bet, 200x line bet for 4, and 1,000x for 5 symbols. This is the highest-paying symbol.

The paytable is easy to read once I separated the cards from the wolves. The card symbols give you something small back, sure, but they’re never the reason you keep watching the reels. Even on a $100 spin, five of the lower cards only give $250 on one line, which sounds better on paper than it feels when the stake is that high.
The totems are a bit better, then the regular wolves are where the game starts to look more alive. The howling wolf is obviously the most important one as it pays the most, works as the wild, and it can land stacked. When a wolf stack appears, I immediately start looking across the grid to see how many paylines caught it.
The Bonus scatter has its own kind of pull. Once two dream catchers land, the actual line win becomes secondary. I was just waiting for reel 4 to stop and either give me the free spins or ruin the mood.

How to play Wolf Run slot
Open Wolf Run and let the game load fully before changing anything. Check the balance, current bet, and line settings on the game panel. Wolf Run has 40 paylines.
Set the coin value or line bet. Your total spin cost is based on the line bet and the number of active paylines. With 40 lines active, a $0.10 line bet creates a $4 total bet. Open the paytable before your first spin. Check the symbol values, the howling wolf wild, the Dream Catcher bonus scatter, and the free spins rules.

Press spin when the bet looks correct. The reels land on a 5×4 grid, and wins are checked from left to right across the active paylines. Check the win display after the reels stop. Any payout from that round is added to the balance automatically. Play through the 5 free spins when the bonus starts. Wins in the feature use a 2x multiplier, and the round can add more free spins if the Bonus scatters land again.
Use autoplay through the button if your version includes it. Choose the number of spins, check the bet amount, then start the automatic rounds. Use the menu or history button to review past rounds if your casino version includes game history. This usually shows recent spins, bet amounts, and payouts.

Expert verdict
Wolf Run is easy to get into. It’s an older IGT slot, so I wasn’t expecting a huge bonus setup or anything too complex. I knew pretty quickly what I was watching for: the wolf stacks and the Bonus scatters.
The best part is still the stacked wilds. When they land in the right place, the game has a bit more life and the 40 paylines actually make sense. Between those moments, the base game can feel pretty quiet. I didn’t hate that, but I did notice it.
The free spins round is fine, just short. Five spins with a 2x multiplier can give you something back if the wilds show up early. If they don’t, the feature ends fast and feels a bit flat.
I’d play Wolf Run again when I want something simple and familiar. In fact, I do come back to this slot every once in a while. I wouldn’t pick it for big bonus variety or strong RTP value. The 94.98% RTP feels low now, and the game shows its age, but the stacked wilds still give it enough reason to exist.
