Avalon III slot review summary
If you’ve enjoyed the look and feel of the previous two Avalon games, then Avalon III will be a welcome addition for you. Avalon III has a smoother design, with 3D elements, bringing Arthur and Merlin to life. There’s a lot of detail in the symbols and even in the background of the game window. Plus, Arthur speaks to you, and the dramatic game sounds complete the immersive experience.
Avalon III is also a great option for players who love bonus features. Five jackpots is one highlight, but there’s also free spins and a magic orbs mini game, which brings something new to the Avalon series.
The slot also has an agreeable RTP of 96.30% with high volatility, which makes for a balanced game, and the hopes of some bigger wins. Base game wins aren’t frequent, which I expected due to the 20 paylines and high volatility. With a maximum win of 5,000x, I also expected bigger average payouts, but Avalon III has low payouts.
Pros
5 bonus features
96.30% RTP
5,000x max win
Cons
High min bet of $0.20
Low base game payouts
Max bet not ideal for high-rollers
Avalon III comprehensive review
This Avalon III slot review gives you the lowdown on the third slot in the Avalon series. I cover Avalon III’s slot RTP, its volatility, the features you’ll find, the symbols and payouts, and I’ll explain how the slot works.
RTP and volatility
Avalon III has an RTP of 96.30% and high volatility. The game has 20 paylines and is played on a 5×4 grid.
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| RTP | 96.30% |
| Maximum win | 5,000x |
| Number of paylines | 20 |
| Volatility | High |
All in all, things look good in terms of RTP and volatility in Avalon III. 96.30% is always an agreeable RTP to have, putting the slot on the industry average.
High volatility can mean less frequent payouts. In my experience, because the bonus features triggered so frequently, it didn’t feel like such a long gap between wins.
Many of my wins did come from bonuses, rather than the base game, which is also due to the game only having 20 paylines. Compared with Avalon II’s 243 ways to win, there’s definitely a lower hit rate there.

Bonus features
Avalon III is loaded with five bonus features, including features like mini games, free spins, and multipliers.
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Bonus features | Wilds, Scatters, gamble features, reel features, free spins, respins, multipliers, buy feature |
| Top features | Magic Orbs Feature |
| Jackpot | Mini, Minor, Midi, Maxi, and Mega jackpots |
Free Spins
The free spins box sits on the left side of the grid. Throughout the base game, you’ll collect free spins orbs symbols that will randomly award eight free spins. Only one free spins orb is needed to trigger a free spins round. The orb is gold, with the word free spins on top.
The free spins orb only appears on reels 2, 3, and 4. You can also re-trigger free spins during a free spins round if the orb lands on the reels. This awards an additional three free spins.
Magic Orbs Feature
The magic orbs box sits on the right side of the grid. Collect magic purple orbs throughout the game to increase your orb count. The base number of orbs you can have is always five, and the maximum is 50.
When the magic orb appears on reel 3, it can randomly trigger the bonus. Merlin will come on screen and will randomly assign your collected orbs to different symbol positions on the reel. Each orb carries a different cash prize, which can be up to 6x your bet, or even the Midi, Mini, or Minor jackpots.
There can also be a magic orb multiplier of 2x or 3x, which will be added to all the prizes on the grid. Once all the orbs have been given a position, your total prize is calculated.
The magic orbs feature can also trigger during free spins. Once the magic orb feature is complete, your orb count resets to five, but during free spins, the original value is maintained.
Jackpots
There are five jackpots available in Avalon III. These are the Mini, Minor, Midi, Maxi, and Mega jackpots. The first three jackpots are fixed jackpots, while the Maxi and Mega jackpots are variable up to a maximum value. When a jackpot bonus symbol lands on the reels, it contributes to the Maxi or Mega jackpots.
The jackpot symbols appear on reels 2, 3, and 4 and can randomly trigger the jackpot bonus. In this mini-game, 15 gold coins appear on the screen. You need to select discs at random until you get a matching set of three. This will determine which jackpot you’ve won.
This feature can be triggered in both the base game and during a free spins round.
The jackpot values are:
- Mini: 8x the total bet
- Minor: 15x the total bet
- Midi: 40x the total bet
- Maxi: up to 1,000x the total bet
- Mega: up to 5,000x the total bet
Buy feature
The buy feature allows you to instantly trigger a free spins round, awarding eight free spins. The cost of the buy feature is 100x your current bet.
Wild
The wild symbol is a glowing orb with the word Wild over it. This symbol can substitute for any paying symbol to complete a win. This is available in both the base game and in free spins rounds.
Avalon III is all about its bonuses, which is something I love. Not only is there a decent number of them, but they each have a different role and provide variety. The game has really built on the foundations of the original Avalon slot, which only had free spins, Wilds, and a multiplier.
I particularly liked the magic orbs and the jackpots. The magic orbs are a frequent bonus that can deliver lucrative wins. During one free spins round with a bet of $40, I had a total win of $1,400 thanks to a round of magic orbs.
The jackpot bonus triggered once for me, and I almost won the Maxi and Mega jackpot, but got the mini instead.

Symbols and paytable
There are 11 paying symbols in Avalon III. 10, J, Q, K, and A are the low-paying symbols. The remaining six symbols are the room with the glowing orb, the fortification on the hill, the castle, the throne, the dragon with the orb in its mouth, and Merlin.
The 10 is the lowest-paying symbol in the game, awarding a payout of $0.20 for three of a kind, while you’ll get $1 for five when your bet is $1. There’s a slight increase with the next symbol, the J. On the same bet of $1, it’s $0.30 for three symbols and $1.20 for five. The A pays out even higher, awarding $1.80 for five symbols.
With the middle-of-the-road symbols, there’s another jump. The castle will give you a payout of $3.00 for five symbols, and the throne awards $4.

The highest-paying symbol in the game is Merlin, who will award you a payout of $10 for five symbols when the bet is set to $1. It’s also the only symbol in the game where you can land a win with just two symbols, paying out $0.50. On the maximum bet of $50, the maximum payout from Merlin is $500 for five symbols.
The maximum win on Avalon III is 5,000x, which is won through the Mega Jackpot.

The first point that strikes me is that the maximum win on Avalon III is lower than the previous slot, where the max win was 16,200x. The payouts aren’t better either. Here, you’ll get $10 for five of the highest-paying symbol, on a bet of $1. In Avalon II, the highest-paying symbol will award you a payout of $30 on a bet of $0.30.
The game is also limited by its low maximum bet value of $50, since it means you can only win up to $500 with Merlin. For high-rollers, this won’t work. Even so, the payouts aren’t the best. Twin Spin is another game that I felt had low payouts, however, on the same bet of $50, it awards a payout of $2,000 for five of its highest-paying symbol.

Expert verdict
Avalon III is great for players who love two things: the nostalgia and adventure theme of the Avalon series, and bonus features. This slot is one of the strongest I’ve tested when it comes to frequency and variety of bonuses. It ticks off a few key boxes: free spins, a mini game, and five jackpots.
Where payouts are concerned, this isn’t a slot I’d recommend to high-rollers. Although the maximum win is 5,000x, the average payouts are small, and the most you’ll get out of the highest-paying symbol is $500. The bigger wins in this game tend to come from bonuses, but with a maximum bet of $50, high-rollers will feel limited.
For fans of bonus features and less experienced players, Avalon III is a great option. A friendly RTP and an easy-to-handle bet range make this slot more accessible, and the features are easy to get the hang of.
