Phoenix slot review
Red Tiger’s Phoenix slot is a mythology-themed slot that brings the phoenix back from the ashes again and again. The slot’s Magic Crystal multiplier and Win Bonus symbol are key features that add a bit of dynamism to the soothing, slow-moving slot.
The Phoenix slot RTP is 96.29% paired with high volatility. Plus, it has a max win potential of over 4,858x. All this and more is discussed in my Phoenix slot review.

Expert verdict
Red Tiger’s Phoenix is a slot that’s better suited to a more casual game. It has a beautiful design and some special bonus features, but with a low betting range and payouts that are also on the low side, there’s not a lot of room for big wins.
Although there’s a max win potential of over 4,858x, the slot doesn’t pay out so often. Some payouts are decent though, especially thanks to the Magic Crystal multiplier which can add a multiplier as small as x2 or as big as x88. The slot should pay out more frequently than it does, since it’s RTP is above average at 96.29%. The slot’s volatility, however, is pretty high, meaning payouts don’t come often.
There are a few things the Phoenix slot does well, however, such as its bonus features. The Magic Crystal can boost your winnings when triggered and the Win Bonus symbol is a rare but welcome surprise. The Magic Crystal is also active during the free spins round, which makes this slot’s free spins.
Visually, the slot is also beautiful to look at. The whole thing is like a detailed watercolor painting. The music is well-chosen too, but stops too abruptly for the slot to be fully immersive.
- Can win 4,858x your stake
- Potential for long free spins rounds
- Magic Crystal contributes to big wins
- High volatility
- Bet range of $0.20-$10
- Average wins are small

Phoenix slot RTP and volatility
The Phoenix Red Tiger slot RTP is 96.29% and has high volatility. Symbols need to land across at least one of the 40 paylines for players to land a win.
Payout facts
Category | Details |
---|---|
RTP | 96.29% |
Maximum win | 4,858x |
Highest-paying symbol | Hatching Phoenix |
Volatility | High |
The slot has 10 symbols, six of which are low-paying symbols. These are represented by the traditional card symbols: 9,10, J, Q, K, and A. The 9, 10, and J pay out just 0.1x for three symbols, whereas the Q, K, and A pay out 0.2x for three. The A pays out 2.4x for five symbols.
The four higher-paying symbols are images of the phoenix bird and its mythology. The highest-paying symbol, a phoenix hatching from an egg, pays 1.5x for three symbols and 9.7x for five symbols.
Payouts rating
- Decent payouts
- RTP is above average
- High volatility
- Lowest symbols have poor payouts
The payouts on this slot could be better. Considering the slot has an above-average RTP of 96.29%, I would have expected bigger and more frequent payouts, as it could balance out the slot’s high volatility.
There were quite a few attempts when I played the game that just totally drained my bankroll, and so playing with a higher bet never really paid off for me. Even when my bet was just $6, my funds were drained so quickly from not landing a single win that I couldn’t even complete 50 autospins. In other attempts, there were times when I won as little as $0.08.
The biggest issue is that the symbols have low payouts, so when you land a win, those wins might not be that high, unless you’re gifted a multiplier from the Magic Crystal.
To compare, Fish n’ Fish’s lowest-paying symbols all pay out the same values, but they still pay out better than all of Phoenix’s. Fish n’ Fish starts on 0.2x for three symbols and 2x for five. Out of all six of the lowest-paying symbols in Phoenix, only the K and A pay out 2.1x and 2.4x for five symbols. The 9 doesn’t even pay out 1x, but 0.9x.
It’s not all bad though. There were some attempts where I had a few decent payouts. In one game, I got the x12 multiplier from the Magic Crystal very early on, which gave me a nice boost to my bankroll. Another time, when my bet was set to $2, I got a x10 multiplier on a win of just $7, pushing it up to $70.
Phoenix slot stakes
When it comes to its bet range, the Phoenix slot has a range of $0.20–$10. I looked at quite a few versions, including the demo available on Red Tiger’s site, and they all had the same bet range. That being said, it is possible that the bet range could be affected by your jurisdiction, so always check that out before starting the game.

If you need to adjust your bet during gameplay, you can do this by pressing the plus and minus symbols on either side of the bet value. I also came across some versions where you adjusted the bet by clicking on the bet value and selecting your chosen bet from the drop-down menu.
At first, the bets increase in increments of 0.20: $0.20, $0.40, $0.60, $0.80, $1.00. After that, they increase in multiples of 2 until they reach $10.
The Phoenix slot has a maximum win potential of over 4,858x your stake, with The Magic Crystal multiplier, free spins, and Bonus symbol creating opportunities for big wins.
Stake limits rating
- Potential for 4,858x
- Easy to adjust your bet
- Low maximum bet of $10
- Few betting options
The bet range here is disappointing. It starts at $0.20, which is decent but not the lowest starting point either, and then only hits a maximum of $10. Given my experience where my bankroll was drained pretty quickly when my bet was set to $6, maybe this isn’t a slot that works with higher bet values. However, it’s still a limiting bet range, especially since the bets increase in pretty big increments considering how small the range is.
One of the issues is the lack of control over setting your bet. Adjusting the bet with plus and minus buttons is nice and simple, but other slots, like Dead or Alive 1, also allow you to adjust your bet by choosing your bet level and coin value. This allows players to adjust their bets in smaller, more controlled increments. Phoenix doesn’t come with a lot of betting options.
Fortune Charm, another slot from Red Tiger, starts at $0.25, which is slightly higher, but then has a maximum bet of $40. This still isn’t the highest I’ve seen but it’s still better than Phoenix.
As for the max win, there is the potential for 4,858x wins, which is a decent maximum win value. However, given how rarely the slot paid out in my experience, I’m not sure how close you come to that win value.
Phoenix slot bonus features
Moving on to the Phoenix slot’s bonus features, there are a couple of features available. The game’s Magic Crystal is a multiplier that goes from x2 to x88. The crystal fills with liquid according to how big the multiplier value will be, and assigns that multiplier to your win, sometimes creating opportunities for pretty big wins. The Magic Crystal isn’t always in play and there’s no way to trigger it, so not all your wins will have the multiplier added.
The Magic Crystal is also used during the free spins rounds. During free spins, the Magic Crystal fills a little with each win, adding a new multiplier to each win during the round. Free spins are triggered by landing three of the Phoenix symbols anywhere across the reels and the number of free spins is determined before the round starts.

Another feature that’s available to maximize your wins is the Win Bonus symbol. This is a golden egg that only lands on the middle reel. If it does, you win a bonus, such as a multiplier.
The slot also has a Wild symbol that substitutes for all paying symbols. This is a yin-yang symbol with the word ‘Wild’ underneath it.
Bonus features rating
- Potential for big wins during free spins
- Magic Crystal can maximize winnings
- No scatters or jackpots
- Free spins round can end quickly
The bonus features are the saving grace of what could otherwise be a very slow-moving slot.
The Magic Crystal is the most commonly used feature and is definitely the one that has the biggest effect on your wins. Whether it’s a multiplier ox x2 or x20, this feature adds something special to the slot.
I liked how it’s also used during the free spins round but in a different way. Stacking the multipliers over the free spins for a bigger win at the end is a great idea. Unfortunately, you don’t know how many free spins you’ll get until it starts. However, there’s the potential for long free spins rounds, allowing you to keep stacking up your Magic Crystal wins.
On my first free spins round, I was awarded 20 free spins. Out of 7 of those, I landed a win, which meant I reached the 10x multiplier.
The Win Bonus is a good feature, but it comes up so rarely that it doesn’t affect your game that much. Out of all the attempts I had with this slot, the Win Bonus came up once. When it did, I had to keep pressing the egg until I got my total multiplier. I did win a 16x multiplier though, which was great.
Aside from multipliers, there aren’t many other bonus features on the Phoenix slot, and I do think there was room for more.
Phoenix Audiovisuals
Visually, this slot is very appealing to look at. The background of the slot is like a painting, featuring typical Oriental buildings and a cloudy pink sky. This effect is seen in the slot’s symbols too. The card symbols all look like they’ve been painted and you can see the brush strokes. The higher-paying symbols are small paintings too.
The grid’s border is made up of phoenix feathers, tying in directly to the game’s name and theme.

Audiovisual facts

Theme | Mythology |
Graphics | Detailed and appealing |
Animations | Limited |
Sound quality | Great |
Mobile compatibility | Okay but game window is small |
There’s not much animation in the slot, and the little there is is basic. As for music choices, the game does have an on-theme background track, as well as game sounds that tie the theme together well. The background track plays while the reels are spinning and stops abruptly when the reels stop.
When two free spins symbols land on the first reels, a more sped-up version of the background track plays, creating hype. This also comes with the addition of singular phoenix feathers floating on the remaining spinning reels.
Audiovisuals rating
- Appealing graphics
- Cohesive slot design
- Music stops too abruptly
- Limited animations
Red Tiger has developed another pretty slot here, and considering the slot is not the newest on the market, its visuals can still compete with the more modern slots of today.
I really liked the way the entire slot feels like a painting, starting with the background image. It’s a consistent feeling as the symbols are also mini paintings. The brushstrokes in the card symbols are a nice touch.
In terms of animation, there’s not much to say. The slot makes use of minimal and basic animation, which does tie into the idea that the slot is a painting, but also makes it a bit stiff.
The music, however, is what I couldn’t get on board with. Typically, I’d say the music becomes repetitive but in the Phoenix slot, you don’t hear the music enough. The background track is well-chosen and very soothing to listen to but only plays while the reels are spinning. Every time the reels stop, the music stops abruptly, which I felt kept pulling me out of the game. It stops even more suddenly when you play in turbo mode. I felt this ruined the immersiveness of what is otherwise a very cohesive slot.
The game sounds add some hype to the game. For example, there’s a little magic jingle that plays while the Magic Crystal fills up, which does build some excitement.
Phoenix slot game layout
The Phoenix slot has five reels and four rows, allowing 20 symbols to appear at once.
Playing the game is simple, as players just press the spin button to spin the reels. Autoplay is available, giving you the option to play up to 100 autospins. A loss limit is required and is set up by selecting the limit from the drop-down menu. The values on the loss limit are adjusted according to your current bet. There are also two additional autoplay settings: stop on a win above a certain amount and stop on a bonus feature.
If spinning the reels manually is too slow for you, turbo spin is available.

Finding your way around the slot shouldn’t be a problem. The ‘Paytable’ and ‘Help’ buttons can be found in the Menu on the right and have all the necessary information. The balance is displayed in the top left corner of the screen, which is popular in Red Tiger games.
On mobile, the slot works well, but the grid is small. The smallest numbers on the Magic Crystal are hard to read, but there’s no problem reading the symbols. This is the same when playing the game both in portrait and landscape mode. The game buttons are a decent size and everything else can be found easily.
Game layout rating
- Slot is easy to navigate
- Autospin and Turbo Spin
- No game history
- Game window too small on mobile
The Phoenix slot is mapped out well, like most Red Tiger slots. I was able to get to everything I needed quickly and all the information can be found easily. The balance is displayed on the top left, which confused me until I found it. Having everything below the grid is much more comfortable.
Autospin is available and comes with additional settings. Players can set 10, 20, 30, 50, or 100 autospins. It’s a good range, however, there are other slots that allow even more autospins, such as Dead or Alive 1 with up to 1000 autospins.
Turbo spins are always welcome and in this case, they are effective. You get the results from the reel almost instantly.
On mobile, however, the slot isn’t the most comfortable to play. The game window is too small, and while the buttons are a comfortable size, the grid is not. The Magic Crystal is almost impossible to read, and while the symbols are legible, it’s not comfortable.
