Data and analysis below are accurate at the time of publishing, but may be subject to change.

Expert verdict

To be blunt, Onyx Odds has many areas for improvement — some minor, many major — to be a strong alternative to the top social sportsbooks out there.

There’s a decent base to build off. The mobile interface is easy to use and slickly designed, the odds are competitive across the board, and responsible gaming efforts are taken seriously.

However, users will be quickly put off by the lack of a cashout feature, the nonexistent community tools, and the poor quantity of betting markets.

Perhaps the platform’s issues will possibly be addressed in time, but in its current state, there’s no reason to recommend it above any of its competitors.

State differences

Onyx Odds social sportsbook is available in 40 US states and Washington DC.

There are 10 US states the site isn’t currently available in: Alabama, Colorado, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Tennessee, Washington, and West Virginia.

As a social sportsbook, the platform has no differences regardless of location.

How does Onyx Odds social sportsbook work?

Similar to most social sportsbooks, Onyx Odds uses two currencies on its platform: Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash.

Onyx Coins are like Gold Coins for sweeps casinos, with no monetary value outside of the platform; they’re simply for fun and can be gained through betting on sports or purchased in packs, which range from $10 to $500.

Meanwhile, Onyx Cash is the equivalent of Sweeps Coins and cannot be purchased. However, they’re given for free within Onyx Coins packs, through social media promotions, and via mail-in entries.

You can also use Onyx Cash to make predictions on sports. Once played through, customers can redeem them for cash, with a $20 minimum.

Onyx Odds bonuses

All new users receive 1,000 Onyx Coins to get started. There’s no Onyx Odds promo code to claim this reward, it’ll simply appear in your account the moment you’re finished signing up.

You don’t receive any Onyx Cash with the sign-up offer, though. You can get five Onyx Cash via mail-in bonus, with up to 100 entries allowed in every monthly sweepstakes period.

Once signed up, Onyx Odds says it gives customers 25 Onyx Cash when they spend their first $10 by using the promo code GET25.

Upon further inspection of this bonus, I found users buying packs of Onyx Coins actually get 15 extra Onyx Cash, as well as 15,000 additional Onyx Coins, on top of the standard offering.

So the normal $10 pack of 10,000 Onyx Coins and 10 free Onyx Cash gives out 25,000 and 25 instead, the $25 pack goes from 25,000 Onyx Coins and 25 free Onyx Cash to 40,000 and 40, and so on up to the $500 pack.

Onyx Odds doesn’t provide a daily log-in bonus to help top up its welcome offer, in a departure from most of the social sportsbook industry.

The desktop site says a VIP program is offered and loyalty points can be earned, but I couldn’t find any additional info on either.

When I reached out for clarity, Onyx Odds only said that it invites its “top players exclusively” into the program, but how to qualify remains unclear.

Bonus rating

59/100 Too stingy, and sometimes too confusing
  • Generous mail-in program
  • No daily log-in rewards
  • Vague VIP program
  • No Onyx Cash with sign-up offer

The welcome offer of 1,000 coins isn’t a large amount, but it was enough for me to get a good taste of what Onyx Odds offers. On the flip side, not providing any Onyx Cash held me back.

Just as perplexing was the lack of daily log-in rewards, normally a key feature for a social sportsbook.

With only a moderate coin bonus and no way to supplement it other than buying packs, you can quickly see your account dwindle.

Now let’s get to the confusing VIP program. It’s promoted like an accessible feature, but it’s nowhere to be found, creating a frustrating experience.

Even if it’s hidden and you need an invitation from the platform, there’s also no way to track your loyalty points, so using it as a goal to work towards doesn’t work either.

Sports and markets at Onyx Odds

Onyx Odds has seven sports to bet on, including the big four of football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. There’s also a large soccer offering, as well as tennis and MMA.

While it’s a small number of sports, some contain multiple leagues — notably, both college football and college basketball — to bolster the overall selection.

Sports and markets rating

50/100 Severely lacking in market depth
  • Solid coverage of big four sports
  • No boxing, golf, or motorsports
  • Limited markets
  • No esports

The number of sports Onyx Odds offers is in line with competitors like Thrillz and Fliff (nine each).

But it’s still a disappointing selection, especially when some of the best in the market offer way more. Sportzino, for example, has over 41 different sports.

Notable missing sports include boxing, golf, and motorsports.

Even more disappointing is the lack of markets. Social sportsbooks aren’t going to compete with the variety standard sportsbooks provide, but Onyx Odds falls way short.

For example, a game between Manchester City and Real Madrid barely got into double digits for market options. For the same game, Sportzino provided nearly 120.

Onyx Odds betting features

Onyx Odds makes it easy to create bets with an easy-to-use bet builder. Same-game parlays and same-game parlays extra are available.

The most notable absence is a cash-out feature. I was told the platform has it in the works but with no definitive timeline for implementation.

Also missing are live streams, though to be fair, that isn’t common with social sportsbooks.

Onyx Odds also doesn’t have social features of note, so users can’t compete against their friends in groups for bragging rights or climb leaderboards to earn rewards.

Betting features rating

55/100 Falls far short of the competition
  • Intuitive bet builder
  • No cashout feature
  • No live streams
  • No social aspect

Even reviewing Onyx Odds within the context of its short lifespan, I was still left underwhelmed with its betting features outside of its bet builder.

A cashout tool is simply a must-have in my opinion. And being a social sportsbook isn’t really an excuse when Sportzino, Fliff, Thrillz, and BetRivers.NET all provide it.

Arguably a more egregious absence is no community features. I mean, it’s called a social sportsbook for a reason.

Again, I would’ve understood if Onyx Odds didn’t have every social feature at this stage of its development. However, I couldn’t find any way to interact with other users, participate in leaderboards, or connect with friends.

Odds at Onyx Odds

The general payout rate at Onyx Odds comes in around 95.59%, right around average when compared to its closest compatriots.

The platform’s premier options — football and basketball — did come in higher than the overall average, with both hovering around 96%. For live payouts, we calculated a 94.34% payout rate.

While Onyx Odds doesn’t offer any boosted odds, I was offered a 100% same-game parlay boost for a major event.

Odds rating

77/100 Competitive odds with room for improvement
  • Strong live betting payouts
  • SGP boosts for major events
  • No boosted odds

Onyx Odds’ strongest area is arguably — and fittingly — its odds. The general payout rate of 95.59% is superior to those of Fliff (95%), Thrillz (91.68%), and BetRivers.NET (95.36).

Sportzino (96.12%) has Onyx Odds beat in this metric, but that is balanced out by a far better live betting payout rate for the latter (94.34% to 91.84%).

I was also happy to see football and basketball, two of my most wagered sports, hit high payout marks.

I would’ve liked to see Onyx Odds flex its muscles further in this category by offering odds boosts, but it’s still a solid showing for a new social sportsbook.

Payments at Onyx Odds

Onyx Odds allows customers to make purchases with all major debit and credit cards and via bank transfer. Only two redemption options are available: debit card and ACH transfer. Purchases often hit your account instantly.

Onyx Odds has a simple redemption process and allows users to redeem for a minimum of just $20. There are no fees for transactions at Onyx Odds.

There’s no limit for redemptions, except in Florida and New York ($5,000 monthly limit). After 1–2 business days for approval, redemptions to debit cards are instant, while bank transfers can take an additional couple of days.

Payments rating

54/100 Limited features, even for a social sportsbook
  • Low minimum for redemptions
  • Only 2 redemption methods
  • No e-wallet options

I appreciate the low redemption minimum, which is far superior to Thrillz (50) and Fliff (100) and is therefore more inclusive for bettors looking to make modest wagers.

Only providing two redemption methods (debit cards and ACH) is disappointing, though. I’d have liked to have seen gift cards as an alternative.

All in all, Onyx Odds provides pretty limited payment features, though I hope this is mostly due to the fact it’s still relatively new and the offerings will be expanded given time.

Safety at Onyx Odds

Onyx Odds is available in 41 states and is owned by Onyx Games LLC, which is based in New York.

The platform has a responsible gaming (RG) section that’s easy to access through your account page and offers features to protect its users, with tools like loss, purchase, and wager limits.

Onyx Odds also provides self-exclusion with varying timeframes, from days to an indefinite period. However, these tools all require contacting customer support to enact.

Onyx Odds also provides two-factor authentication — again, you must contact customer support to implement it — and protects its users with SSL encryption. The platform also uses tools to prevent VPNs and proxies.

Finally, Socure performs identify verification for Onyx Odds. Socure is used by other established gambling brands, including DraftKings.

Safety rating

74/100 Strong RG tools but inefficient implementation
  • Solid RG features
  • Safe ID verification
  • No quick access to RG tools

RG tools can be hit-and-miss with social sportsbooks, and I was pleased to see Onyx Odds take them seriously from the get-go.

However, being forced to contact support to set limits and create a two-factor authentication is counterproductive.

Players wanting to create safeguards for themselves need to be able to do so quickly, preferably with a simple click or two in their account.

Meanwhile, I felt safe using Onyx Odds as it is widely available across the US. Plus, it uses a well-known ID verification partner to protect its users’ data.

Support at Onyx Odds

If you need help from Onyx Odds, only one option is available: email. The platform doesn’t offer any phone or live chat alternatives.

There is a policies section on your account page, but no real FAQ or help section with easy-to-access answers.

Support facts

CategoryDetails

Moreover, email support isn’t 24/7. You’ll get help during standard EST business hours, though I was told support is also “frequently” available outside of those set times.

Support rating

68/100 Lacking in options but what’s there is useful
  • Quick response time
  • Quality, helpful responses
  • No phone or live chat
  • No FAQs

Social sportsbooks are often email-only with their support, but it’s still frustrating nonetheless.

With the bar so low, it’s an easy win to simply offer even one alternative to stand out.

That said, I got fast responses to my email queries. The quickest reply was just 40 minutes, and the “slowest” was two hours. It’s not often you get fast and helpful, which is normally an either-or thing in my experience.

The quick responses are needed. Onyx Odds has sections for its rules and terms of use, but there’s no mobile FAQ for questions that aren’t worth an email back and forth.

There is a six-question FAQ on the desktop site, a strange decision considering most people will leave quickly once they realize it’s a mobile-only platform.

Onyx Odds platform

Onyx Odds doesn’t have a native app or a desktop version, relying exclusively on a mobile-optimized option.

The platform boasts a lightning-quick registration — you can be ready to go in less than two minutes – and a similarly quick interface once you’re verified and rolling.

Onyx Odds social sportsbook on two mobile screens

Though a search function is missing, it’s simple to navigate to different sports through the home page, with a neat selection of icons right at the top in a scrolling menu — clicking one quickly brings up all the events for that sport.

A purple-and-black theme gives Onyx Odds a distinct and clean appearance.

Platform rating

62/100 A crisp design let down by the lack of an app
  • Sleek, minimalist design
  • Easy-to-navigate platform
  • No mobile app
  • No search function

No mobile app in 2025 isn’t totally unforgivable, but it’s getting close, especially with competitors like Thrillzz and Fliff boasting both iOS and Android options.

Call me a lazy millennial (you wouldn’t be the first!) — and putting the superior functionality aside — having an app right in my face is just such an easy way to keep your platform in my rotation.

Still, there was no messing around with Onyx Odds as I zipped through my registration and saw my account instantly loaded with my no-purchase bonus.

Once there, I was pleased with the minimalist design. Some might like more sizzle, but the simplicity lets you get straight to the steak.

Lastly, a search function would be useful, but with only a handful of sports, the feature isn’t a must-have until Onyx Odds expands its offering.
