Betway sportsbook review: Ontario 2024

I will say at the outset that I was really impressed with Betway sportsbook Canada. In fact, it’s one of the best in the betting industry thanks to the sheer number of different sports available. 

For starters, the Betway website is home to more than 25 different sports. I expected there to be a focus on North American sports, and there was. But I was pleasantly surprised to see the sheer number of additional sports that are available on offer too. 

There were more niche options like Aussie Rules Football, both Rugby Union and Rugby League as well as the option to bet on esports. Better still, within each sport, I wasn’t limited to just one or two games. 

Far from it, in fact. While some sports had more leagues and competitions than others, each one had a number of different options from around the world. Soccer, in particular, stood out, with a vast array of European leagues on offer. 

To be honest, I really can’t fault Betway sportsbook here at all. There were so many sports betting options as to be almost overwhelming. Really, this is up there with the best when it comes to betting markets. So, no complaints from me. 

I feel like I should add some more details when it comes to the American football betting market. It’s no surprise to note that the NFL takes precedence here. But what’s impressive is the number of betting markets on offer. There were more than 20 betting options for just the main markets, let alone getting into the bet builders, prop bets and other bet types. 

A little more surprising was the lack of such a range of betting options when it comes to hockey. I say surprise as hockey is arguably one of the most popular sports for Canadians. Nevertheless, there were games from the NHL, but fewer bet types were on offer. However, there was also the option for live betting, although not live streaming, to take place.

While there is nothing really uniquely available on Betway sportsbook, I will say that all the betting features are nicely laid out. It is the work of moments to find out where everything was. 

Within each sport, I was able to quickly find which option was available for cash out. Each eligible bet has a large green icon next to it for super easy use. And there’s even a dropdown menu header that groups everything together. 

For the different sports, there are options to use the bet builder which I really enjoyed. The process was straightforward and intuitive. Plus, I just liked to be given the option to create my own personal bet. 

I really appreciated the sheer number of sporting options available for live betting. Most of the sports are on offer. Although there is no live stream, which was a little disappointing. I’d love to see more than just real-time score updates in the future. 

Nevertheless, the live sports options are impressive. Whenever there’s a live event, there’s a green live sign next to the sport. This makes it super easy for you to see what’s happening right at that moment. 

There are a few additional features. Just as you might imagine, there are parlays available on Betway. This type of online sports betting matched nicely with other sportsbooks. In fact, as this Betway review will keep highlighting, Betway is up there with the best. Here, you can add a large number of different bets into one. Players can also join the Parlay Club to benefit from additional perks and rewards.

Impressively, Betway is actually quite fair when it comes to payouts. Depending on the sport or the league within that sport, there were some differences in the payouts. Nevertheless, this did boil down to an average of 95% across the board, nicely in the middle. 

Some sports and leagues such as the NFL were significantly higher at 96% which is something I would expect. I didn’t quite expect to see such consistency across all sports though, but this was a nice surprise. 

Basketball, specifically the NBA, also had a 96% payout rate. However, on some less popular leagues such as the EuroLeague, this did drop to just 94%. Tennis was slightly lower at 94%, but it’s still above my 93% cut-off making this great for all players across all sports. 

With everything looking so strong across the board, I would have liked there to be better payouts in the live betting section. As mentioned, I appreciate that these are always lower, and there was consistency elsewhere. I’m not complaining too much. 

All that being said, there are parlay deals and regular odds boosts in place too. And these can offer some better deals and parlay options to those who are playing on slightly lower payout events.

With more than 10 different payment options available, I will say that I was very pleased with Betway sportsbook. These payment options are clearly labelled along the footer of the site. Hence, I knew what options were available with minimal searching. 

Helpfully, the sportsbook even has some sections on how to deposit and withdraw with some of the more popular payment methods, specifically Interac and Paysafecard. Both of these are recommended at Betway for all transactions. 

Across the board, there’s a minimum C$10 deposit and withdrawal in place. I was really pleased to see this as I always want to have a lower minimum if possible. Strangely, even in the FAQ, there are no maximum limits listed. 

This was somewhat annoying as I do like to be able to see the entire range of payments available. I’d like to know how high I can bet. This is something that’s very important for high rollers especially. The Betway sports betting site just said to get in touch, and my only indicator of which methods are accepted were logos found in the footer. Not very helpful. 

However, there are no fees in place and the sportsbook is very adamant about that. And at least I was able to find this information very quickly. But I am still annoyed by the lack of payment information. It’s not hard to include in an FAQ.

I have to say, I can’t really fault Betway when it comes to the security of the site. It has taken careful steps to ensure the right licences for where it operates and that’s really an important step. 

Additionally, Betway sports is regularly audited by third parties such as eCOGRA. In fact, this company is one of the best in the business and really helped cement my feeling of comfort when accessing and playing online here. 

I was also very impressed with the range of responsible gambling tools in place here. They have a wide array of different options available covering all the main areas I would expect to see these days. 

For all sports bettors, there are options to self-exclude or simply cool off if things are getting too much. I also liked having the range of deposits and betting limits in place which can be set before you begin playing. 

Overall, Betway sportsbook does a stellar job in making you feel safe and comfortable here. In fact, I didn’t have any problems or feel that my data was unsafe at any time when playing here.

Well, this annoyed me. How hard is it to make access to the support team? Apparently, it was quite hard when it comes to Betway sportsbook. I had to do the run-around for quite a bit of time. 

Okay, let’s backtrack a moment here to the good points. Betway sportsbook has an excellent help centre available. All the main topics are there, and each has a collection of detailed questions categorized very neatly. I did like this. 

But what do you do if your question isn’t answered? Well, there’s a helpful category for how to get in touch in the support section too. Yes, that’s right. The sportsbook actually has to have a section explaining how to find the live chat. 

Maybe I am spoiled, but it is easier just to have a live chat stuck on each page. Anyway, with a bit of a faff, I managed to find the live chat. But the problems don’t end there. 

If you want to chat, you need to log in to your sportsbook account to do so. That’s all well and good for pre-existing customers. However, it’s a huge pain for those of you who may just want some answers before committing to the site. Colour me not impressed. 

I was impressed with Betway sports here actually. There is a great Betway mobile app in place and this actually competes on a level with some of the other top betting websites such as DraftKings and FanDuel. 

The app is available for both iOS and Android. I could download it either by clicking the buttons in the footer of the site or by heading to the respective app stores. I personally like the option of an app for betting whenever I choose. 

The interface of the app and the mobile browser site are the same as the main site too. Additionally, you get all the same online gambling options including the choice of live betting. I’m still missing that live streaming though. 

Neither the app nor the browser site took long to load either. I could get up and running on the Betway sports app pretty quickly. I really liked the fact that it was all laid out in the same way too. 

The betting slip was straightforward, even on the small screen. In fact, dare I say it, it was even easier to place a bet on the Betway sports mobile app even when compared to the main desktop site.
