2025's Betway sports review for New Zealand

Who doesn’t love an enticing bonus offer? I certainly do, and I was seriously impressed with the welcome bonus offer at Betway sportsbook. Being able to unlock free bet bonuses and redeem up to NZ$60 in free bets gives you an excellent chance of finding some winning bets when you first sign up. 

Whilst this is a generous offer, it is not the best welcome bonus you will find at a New Zealand sportsbook. If you join Stake, you can claim a welcome bonus consisting of a 200% matched deposit bonus up to a whopping NZ$500 in bonus funds.

On the plus side, like bet365, you don’t need a promo code to claim that welcome offer. Additionally, the weekly bet club is a nice addition to Betway’s suite of promotions. The only drawback is that you need to place your qualifying wagers on parlay bets with three or more legs. This makes it fairly difficult to land winning bets when completing the offer. 

Overall, this is a solid offering from the Betway sportsbook. Is it the best selection of sports betting offers you will find? No. But it does give you plenty of great chances to add extra value to your online betting experience on your favourite sports.

Betway’s sports site has covered all angles regarding the markets for betting on diverse sports. Having 35+ sports to choose from meant, I could always find something I wanted to bet on. 

This places Betway towards the high end of the market regarding the sports covered. You will find a few providers, such as LeoVegas, with 35+ sports with the same range of markets, and Betway is keeping up with them. I was especially impressed by the array of markets available for major sporting contests. 

I was also pleased that my Betway sportsbook review revealed that many minor sporting events were covered here. Whilst sports such as bowls and handball may not be prevalent in New Zealand, they have a dedicated fanbase. Covering these sports puts Betway ahead of competitors such as PlayUp, which offers just 23 sports and much less coverage of minor ones. 

In conclusion, I found this site offered excellent provisions for betting on sports, and I loved exploring the markets offered. Regardless of which sports you wish to bet on, you can be guaranteed that Betway sportsbook will have the right markets. 

Rugby Union is one of the most popular sports to bet on in New Zealand, so it was great to see that Betway has an excellent rugby betting provision. Whether you want to place totals, over/unders, handicaps, money line bets, or try scorer props, Betway Sports will have a range of great markets.

And that is certainly not the case for all operators in New Zealand. Take, for example, the lack of features at the TAB, which has no Bet Builder, no betting exchange and no virtual bets. 

So what was I most impressed with at Betway Sports? Tough question, with so much to choose from, but I’d probably have to say the virtual markets. One of the leading operators, William Hill is widely regarded as one of the leading operators for virtual markets with 7 different sports to choose from, but Betway has the same array of virtual options. 

Likewise, the other betting features at Betway were on par or better than what you will find at pretty much any other provider in New Zealand. They do have all bases covered in this category. 

I always try to be critical when looking at betting sites, but I couldn’t find any real faults in the betting features offered here. Perhaps there could be more odds boosts? But this is a minor quibble and should not detract from a fantastic range of features. 

Considering all of the above, it’s no surprise that this site receives a very high score in this section. If it’s betting features you are after, then Betway sportsbook is one of the best places to go. 

One other fun feature for football fans, is the ability to create a range of different parlay bets. Not only can you place wagers on the outcomes of multiple games, but you can also gamble on a number of other game parameters. So are the odds in our favour at Betway Sports? Overall yes, as a 95% average represents a very solid figure for payout percentages, and certainly puts Betway in the top half of sportsbooks in New Zealand. 

Is it the best sportsbook for payout percentages? No, Neds is the leader here in a large number of events. It regularly pays out at well over 97% on many markets. 

But that does not mean Betway Sports should be discounted in this category. Indeed, Betway regularly has better odds than many other leading names in the market. Just take a look at MyBookie with average payouts standing at just 92%. In addition, Betway’s odds boosts are a great way of shifting the odds in your favour and adding a lot of value to your bets. 

Plus, there are some sports in which Betway have payout percentages well above the industry average. Given the popularity of the sport in New Zealand, it was pleasing to see that cricket is one of them. 

So taking those excellent cricket odds into account, and factoring in the regular odds boost offers, I was more than satisfied with the quality of the odds at Betway sportsbook.

The last thing I want when I’m betting online is for any problems to arise when making payments. I want fast and efficient transactions with no delays and no fees attached. And that is exactly what Betway Sports provides. 

For a start, having no fees attached to any of the payment methods is a big positive. Likewise, using conventional methods such as ecoPayz is a big tick for Betway. Many operators in New Zealand do not have ecoPayz on their list of accepted options, so it is good to see Betway join the likes of 888sport in offering this payment method. 

Indeed, the overall number of methods accepted by Betway compares very favourably with most competitors. I am always disappointed when I encounter a provider like Royal Panda, which offers just six payment options. Luckily, there were no such issues at Betway. 

Overall, the speedy payment times, the lack of fees and the wide variety of accepted methods means that, once again, Betway sportsbook receives a very high score. 

This section can be summed up simply by saying that the answer to ‘Is Betway legit?’ is a resounding yes. Whether it’s security, fairness or responsible gambling, Betway has its bases covered. For starters, I like to see a site licensed by a top jurisdiction such as the UK Gambling Commission or the Malta Gaming Authority. Betway didn’t disappoint with its MGA licence.

Given the popularity of mobile betting, it was great to see that Betway does have a high-quality mobile app for players. This app is fun and gives a user experience on par with the desktop site. I preferred it to many other mobile apps in the market — particularly Sportsbet, which is often glitchy and has bugs. 

If I was being ultra-picky, I could say that the Betway app is not quite at the level of a market-leading operator such as Ladbrokes. But in fairness, Ladbrokes is virtually impossible to beat in terms of the slickness and look of its mobile app. 

My final thought on the usability of Betway sportsbook is that the site’s designers are big fans of betting on sports. A lot of skill has gone into making the Betway app and betting site, which means you will have a fantastic time using it.
