Expert verdict
Horseplay is a good site in its own right, but sports betting fans might struggle to get into it.
It’s an innovative betting site, with nothing out there quite like it. It has found a fun way to gamify revealing your winnings, and it does this through a fast iOS app and a secure site with strong 256-bit SSL encryption.
Yet the undeniable truth is that it’s a sports betting site where you don’t get to bet on sports. The only sport available is horse racing, and Horseplay places the bets for you. This means you don’t get to choose what horse or odds to bet on, and just have to accept whatever result you get.
It’s an unusual system and circumvents the main pro of sports betting where you can use your knowledge to place informed bets on the sports and odds you want. Still, if you’re ok with trying out something new and unique, then perhaps give Horseplay a go.
State differences
Horseplay betting site is available in 18 different states. As long as you’re playing from an eligible state, the games and features will be the same. However, residents of California, Colorado, Montana, New York, Oregon, and Wyoming do not get a welcome bonus.
The 18 eligible states are listed below.

How does Horseplay betting site work?
The important thing to understand about Horseplay is that you’re not the one making the sports bets — Horseplay is.
You start by depositing cash into your account, which Horseplay then uses to bet on horse races. Once those races are finished, your winnings are given back to you as credits. You can then spend these credits on casino games to reveal your winnings.
Therefore, you are not betting on the horse races or winning any money on the casino games. You are simply giving Horseplay your cash, and then getting any winnings returned. The games are just a fun way to reveal those winnings.
Horseplay promos — 200% match up to $500
Any new player who has had their account verified is eligible for a deposit match welcome bonus. Players can either deposit and purchase up to $20 to get a 100% credit match in Freeplay credits, or deposit and purchase a minimum of $40 to get a 200% deposit match in Freeplay credits, up to $500 maximum.
The deposit match bonus is only eligible for a player’s first deposit and purchase of a credit package.

As for betting promos, Horseplay has a weekly and weekend promo, and three leaderboard tournaments, with each promo awarding more Freeplay credits.
From Monday through Thursday players can win Freeplay credits in the weekly promo depending on how much they deposited, purchased, and played. You’ll need to deposit, purchase, and play all within the timespan — using credits from the week prior won’t count for the promo. There are three levels to the promo:
- Deposit, purchase, and play between $50–$100 to qualify for 5% back in Freeplay credits on total credits purchased.
- Deposit, purchase, and play between $101–$300 to qualify for 10% back in Freeplay credits on total credits purchased.
- Deposit, purchase, and play $300 or more to qualify for 15% back in Freeplay credits on total credits purchased, to a maximum of 50 Freeplay credits.
If you deposit, purchase, and play up to $20 between Saturday and Sunday, you are eligible to get 10% back on any total net loss thanks to the weekend promo, up to a maximum of $100 in Freeplay credits.
As for the leaderboard tournaments, players constantly get one point for every cent ($0.01) of cash winnings revealed. The more winnings revealed, the higher you can climb up the leaderboard. There are three leaderboard tournaments available:
- A 24-hour tournament with $1,000 in Freeplay prizes up for grabs
- A Friday–Sunday weekend tournament with $2,000 in Freeplay prizes up for grabs
- A monthly tournament with $10,000 in Freeplay prizes up for grabs
Currently, there is no information on how the prize Freeplay credits are split between the winners.
Bonus rating
- Regular tournaments
- Two purchase promos
- Unclear promo terms
- No VIP program
So the thing you’ve probably noticed is that, while there are a decent number of promos, they all only award Freeplay credits for the games. So then, why have I listed them all here?
To put it simply, most of them still require you to place bets by purchasing credits. The weekend, weekly, and leaderboard promos all require you to place bets through the purchases to become eligible for them, tying the horse betting and the casino together neatly.
I personally would have liked more betting-oriented promos, such as maybe placing purchases with boosted odds of winning. Still what’s here works well in combining the sports and gaming into a cohesive package.
Horse betting at Horseplay
There’s only horse betting available at Horseplay, with no other sports available. While the owners of Horseplay, Game Play Network, have expressed interest in expanding into other sports such as bicycle and speedboat racing, it is unclear if those expansions will happen on Horseplay or a different sportsbook.

It is also important to note that the account holder is never the one doing the horse betting. The account holder deposits cash, which Horseplay then uses to place horse racing bets and later returns any winnings to the account holder. No information is given on which particular horse races or horses are bet on.

Sports and markets rating
- Innovative horse betting
- Can’t place bets yourself
- No info on bets made
I can confidently say that I’ve never reviewed a sportsbook that only had one sport available and still gave it an above-average score. If you’re confused about how exactly that works, allow me to explain.
To put it simply, it all depends on how much you buy into Horseplay’s model. As far as innovative systems go, it works and it works well — for some people, that might be enough.
For myself, I think while it does work, there is a bit more that can be improved upon. If Horseplay has to place the bets itself, at the very least give me all the information on what horse is being bet on. If you’re betting on Razzmatazz the Irish bay filly to win, I’d like to know about it so I can follow the race.
In short, while I get Horseplay’s model requires them to place the bets themselves, it would be nice if they were a bit more transparent with the particular bets placed. Also, maybe a couple more sports wouldn’t hurt, just saying.
Betting features of Horseplay
Horseplay forgoes many traditional betting features to instead implement its own betting model.
You can’t get early cash out on any of the horse bets, nor are any horse races streamed live. There is no data, live or otherwise, on any of the horse races that are bet on.

Betting features rating
- Games integrated into betting
- No cash out
- No live streaming
Another odd little section, Horseplay has none of the traditional features of a traditional sportsbook. Some of these I understand, but there are others that I feel could have been implemented.
For example, having a bet builder doesn’t make sense since you’re not building any bets so that one gets a pass. However, it would have been nice to have live streams of the horse races available, or maybe even ask for Horseplay to cash out their bets early.
Still, the reveal winnings feature is not only innovative but quite fun and is a large point in Horseplay’s favor.
Horseplay’s odds
Since Horseplay never reveals what particular bets it’s placing, the odds of the bets succeeding are never revealed to the bettor. It is also never mentioned if Horseplay uses pre-game bets, live bets, or if it makes use of any odds boosts or parlays boosts.

When we tested the games ourselves we found that the games do pay out. Positive reviews on Trustpilot and the iOS store also show that Horseplay does pay out fairly.
Odds rating
- Punter-confirmed payouts
- Positive payout-related reviews
- No information on used odds
- No visible odds or lines
I’m sure I sound like a broken record at this point, so I’ll keep this section brief.
It all boils down to the same problem — lack of choice combined with a lack of data given means you have no information on the odds or a possible way of choosing them.
The good news is Horseplay does pay out, and the reviews back this up. So while there could be more odds transparency, they’re not running off with your money either. If your experience says otherwise though, let us know in the user reviews below.

Payments rating
- Four cards available
- No operator fees
- Lacks withdrawal options
If you’re looking to make a purchase, Horseplay has you covered well. Most of the popular cards are here, as is a good old-fashioned bank transfer. Withdrawals however are a different story.
There’s only one withdrawal option, and it takes a long time to go through. Five days to get your money would be long even if verification time was included, which it isn’t.
It’s also a shame that no e-wallets are available on the site. Having Skrill or PayPal as an option is not only helpful, it would also make withdrawals faster and solve the long waiting time issue.

Any new thing is going to require wading through uncharted territory, and it’s something you’re going to need to get comfortable with if you want to bet at Horseplay.
The novelty of the site puts into question how it’s all being regulated. The site is powered by Game Play Network (GPN) and has a master license in Oregon, which allows GPN to operate in all states that don’t have their own licensing requirements but allow online pari-mutuel betting.
Horseplay is only legal in 18 states, while sites like BetMGM are legal in 24 states. It’s unclear to what extent these 18 states are actually regulating Horseplay, if at all.
Still, your private data will at least be secure on the site, with the SSL encryption and TFA working hard to make sure your information doesn’t get stolen.
24/7 customer support at Horseplay betting site
Horseplay offers 24/7 customer support across two support methods, these methods being email and an FAQ section.
The FAQ section is powered by Zendesk, and is split into 11 sections: how it works, signing up, deposits and withdrawals, promotions and bonuses, my account, privacy and security, responsible gaming, horse racing, technical help, regulatory information, and Game Play Network Inc.

- 24/7 support
- Clear and detailed replies
- No live chat
- No phone support
I like Horseplay’s support team, even if I don’t have many ways to contact them. They’re a friendly bunch who can answer clearly, if not quickly.
The FAQ is also quite detailed, and neatly split into appropriate sections. There are some outdated entries from when the site was still the bSpot betting site, but otherwise, the information that’s available is relatively easy to find.
All Horseplay needs to do is add in phone support or maybe a live chat option, and they’ll have a solid support section on their hands.
The usability of Horseplay’s platform
Horseplay’s site loads fast, often under two seconds, and uses a green-on-white color scheme that’s easy to see and navigate through.
There is a Horseplay app, though it is currently only available for iOS with plans to eventually release an Android version. You can also access the site through your mobile browser, or on your desktop.

There are some basic filters for the games, and no search bar is available. Several links to social media pages are broken as they attempt to link to the old bSpot pages.
Platform rating
- 2s loading times
- Great iOS app
- No Android app
- Broken links
The Horseplay site certainly loads fast, and it’s easy enough to use. However, there are lots of problems with it that require fixing.
First off, broken links are just kind of silly. Something like that should be fixed during or shortly after the rebrand, not months later. It’s also a shame to have an iOS app but exclude Android.
Finally, no search bar combined with basic filters is a recipe for disaster. At least fix one or the other, having both problems just makes navigating the site much harder than it needs to be.
