OwnersBox DFS review
OwnersBox took daily fantasy sports and season-long tournaments, mashed them together, and created weekly fantasy sports.
These weekly contests aim to take the best of both worlds. So you’d still have the freshness of daily fantasy sports, but you’re getting the old-school feeling of having to plan a whole week rather than just the day.
It’s a welcome addition to the US fantasy sports arena, and the best thing is that it’s already available in more than 35 states. In this OwnersBox review, we’ll look at the OwnersBox promo, available sports markets, the OwnersBox mobile app, and much more.
Pros and cons
- Great interface and UX
- Dedicated to responsible gambling
- Major credit cards accepted
- Bonus money cannot be withdrawn

Expert verdict
There are a lot of things that OwnersBox is doing right. Their biggest positive is the shift in focus to weekly fantasy sports. It still feels like DFS, but I do like the fact that the game is more spread out. The Ownersbox fantasy sports platform is also a cut above the rest. Not only do you have all the contests available with top-notch filters. On top of that, you have the daily/weekly fixtures with a rolling news feed on the right-hand side. This puts you in the driver’s seat.
Then there is the social aspect of OwnersBox. If you get your friends or family playing, it does help to use the messenger feature available. These little things made my experience at OnwersBox that much better.
Besides that, the OwnersBox bonus gives you a great starting point with weekly fantasy sports. So it’s thumbs up all around for the bonus on offer. To conclude, the OwnersBox fantasy sports experience has been a positive one. They even made me a fan of WFS after writing this OwnersBox review.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t some things that got my eyebrow raised. I’m still not a fan of the withdrawal process for the money you yourself have deposited in your account – this is the one thing that made me feel uncomfortable about the whole situation. It would also be good to see more payment methods and maybe a better laid out app. I’m not saying I didn’t like the app, but it doesn’t come close to the experience on desktop.
OwnersBox bonus + Superbowl giveaway
As soon as you create your account and verify your email address, you will receive your first freebie in the form of 10 OwnersBucks in the Lightening Lineups game – this is a great way to learn the ropes of the OwnersBox fantasy sports world.
When you’re ready to deposit, there is a deposit match of 100% up to $500. Keep in mind that the bonus will come in the form of OwnersBucks. You can use this to enter contests, and as you enter and play real money tournaments, it will be converted to real money. The turnover rate to convert OwnersBucks to real cash is 4% as a Rookie and 4.75% as you climb the ranks. This means that for every $100 you play, $4 or $4.75 is unlocked.
A friend referral bonus is also available. The first time a friend makes a $25 deposit, you will receive the same amount in OwnersBucks. If that same friend refers someone else, you’ll still earn OwnersBucks when a deposit is made.

This OwnersBox bonus code can only be redeemed once per player; you need to be 18 or over. It is available to everyone within the US unless they are in Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, and Washington.
Bonus rating
- Up to $500 in bonus money
- Bonus money cannot be wagered to be withdrawn
OwnersBox doesn’t fool around when it comes to bonuses, and in fact, you can start with a bang with the OwnersBox promo that translates into a deposit match up to $500. However, remember that this will be converted to OwnersBucks, which is the in-game currency. There’s no way to convert this to actual money; you can only withdraw winnings.
This is probably my main dislike of OwnersBox. It feels like whatever money you deposit ends up being there, which is just not standard or even ethical practice. But we’ll go into more detail about it in our payments section.

OwnersBox fantasy sports on offer
The OwnersBox fantasy sports section contains the most popular sports in the US: football, baseball, hockey, and basketball. They only provide the major leagues, so you’ll only be able to play on games in the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA. Having said that, they do use the full schedule of games, so there will be plenty of picks to be made.

Sports and markets rating
- All major leagues are covered
- No unique markets such as eSports available
With DraftKings and FanDuel dominating the fantasy sports scene, we’ve become accustomed to many sports being offered. Looking away from the two giants, however, I classify a site having 4 of the most popular sports as a good starting point. The same goes for OwnersBox, especially when you consider that they are trying to launch something new – weekly fantasy sports.
What is slightly disappointing is that only the four major leagues are available at the time of writing. That’s the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA. Even newcomer Fliff supports picks for NCAA football which makes things even more confusing. Don’t get me wrong, there was plenty to keep me busy, and to be honest, I never really felt like I needed more sports to put money on, but that’s just my personal opinion. I know some people out there do want a site to offer things such as college sports as well, especially when basketball and football are involved.
How to play at OwnersBox – contests and features
At OwnersBox, you’ll find three types of games you can play Lightning Lineups, Daily Salary Cap, and the Weekly Bracket. There are countless contests you can enter for each of these types of games, and it’s easy to pick the right one for you thanks to an advanced filtering system. Rookie contests are also available to get you started.
With Lightening Lineups, you will pick the best of three lineups. You win if the one you pick gets the most fantasy points. It’s an effortless and straightforward way to get started with fantasy sports.
The daily Salary Cap is very similar to many of the daily fantasy sports out there. Pick your players and try to stay under the salary cap. You can change players as you please as long as it’s before the deadline, and you will only be charged once you fill all your lineup. In this version, they also offer what is known as the SuperFlexDFS, where you can get an extra player in any position, but only if you have the money for him.
Then there is their flagship contest system – the weekly fantasy sports. You can either enter tournaments or head-to-heads here, and each game lasts exactly one week. Buy-ins range from $1 to $1,000, with different prize pools for each.

Some head-to-head games can also run for up to 4 weeks, and just like in any sport, you can only pick a player within the group you’re in (so there’s no overlap between your competitors). At the start of each head-to-head, there is a live snake draft, so whoever picks first is changed round. You can choose between public head-to-heads or even create your own.
Betting features rating
- A good selection of different contests to choose from
- Missing some contests like 50/50
Going into OwnersBox, I knew that they mainly focused on WFS, and I was excited at the prospect of having a fantasy sport last that long. It didn’t disappoint! Having the option to go through a week-long tournament (sometimes even up to four weeks long if you choose) made me feel slightly more glued to my TV and live feed app than usual. The scoring system is somewhat different from other sites, but if you’ve played DFS before, you’ll quickly get used to it. The same goes for the roster lineup. If you choose to go for the multi-week tournaments, you will receive a payout at the end of the week and a chance to change your player rounds, giving the game a deeper dimension.
What I like about the head-to-head contest is the auto-pick feature which picks the players for you, and then you can change some according to your preferences. It will also automatically choose for you if you’ve missed the window for some reason, so you’ll never miss out.
Another variation I enjoyed playing was the NFL superflex. I’m lucky to be writing this review at the start of the season, so I got a chance to test this out. This works similarly to DFS, but you get an extra slot for one player to play in any position to boost your final score. Keep in mind you will need to have enough salary left for you to be able to choose the player.
OwnersBox might not have all the different types of contests you’ll find at the big two sites dominating the DFS market, but what they do have brings in a breath of fresh air, and their choice of games makes them stand out from the crowd.
Payments at OwnersBox
Payments at OwnersBox are limited to bank transfers and credit cards. To be able to deposit, you will need to be physically located in a state where OwnersBox operates, and you will need to share your location with the casino so they can confirm this.
There are over 1,000 banks listed for bank transfers. As for credit cards, OwnersBox accepts deposits via Visa, Mastercard, Discovery, and American Express.

Withdrawing at OwnersBox does take a while, considering some transactions may take up to 5 days. But that’s not the worst thing about it. Players are discouraged from withdrawing any deposits they make. Even looking through the website, you’ll see that they encourage you only to withdraw your winnings.
Payments rating
- Major credit cards accepted
- No providers like PayPal available
OwnersBox launched at the end of 2020, so I cannot cut them any slack for only having two main types of payment methods. Yes, all major credit cards are accepted, but what about some form of eWallet like PayPal or Skrill? Many people like using these eWallets as it gives them greater control over their money, so I believe OwnersBox could do more in that area.
Then, there is the question of withdrawals – this is probably the point I have the most trouble with. Basically, those funds are yours whenever you deposit money anywhere, and you can do whatever you want with them. You can deposit money in a casino account and withdraw it the next day if you wish to, and no one should be able to stop you.
Not at OwnersBox, though. They do everything in their power for you not to withdraw your money. If you want to withdraw your deposit, you need to get in touch with them, and it will be decided on a case-by-case basis – this is wrong. They have no right to hold your money hostage.
I really hope they do rethink this strategy, especially since they have a fantastic concept going.
Is OwnersBox legit? Their safety and transparency
OwnersBox is serious when it comes to player safety. Every profile comes with a dedicated section for responsible gambling. From here, you can set up any limits you might want to put on your account. There’s also a button if you want to be locked out of the system.
Parental controls are also in place, and every user of the site must prove they are over the age of 18.

Safety rating
- A dedicated RG section under each account
- 2FA can be implemented
There’s no doubt that the people behind OwnersBox want to create a safe place for their users. Having a dedicated, responsible gambling section within your account goes beyond what is asked of them. In fact, I’ve seen casinos with less focus on RG.
So they do receive high marks all around for players’ safety. But there’s still one big, but that’s annoying me, and that’s the issue with payments where people cannot withdraw their deposits. OwnersBox calls these types of withdrawals “refunds”, and they process them on a case-by-case basis. Yes, I know I keep going about this, but I see it as a massive thorn in the side. If this weren’t the case, I would be happy to score them even higher on their safety and transparency.
Support at OwnersBox
If you’re looking for OwnersBox support, you will find a way to get to it quickly. Clicking the question mark symbol on the top-right menu will take you to a new page where you can access the extensive, searchable FAQs. These are all well-clustered, so you can even click through a few times and find what you’re looking for.
Scrolling down the help page, you’ll also find the ‘how to contact us button.’ Clicking this will open a page where you can find the OwnersBox contact information and an article on how to contact support. There will also be a blue button where you can submit a ticket and a floating chat popup where you can chat with someone.

Support rating
- Many ways to get in touch
- No 24/7 support as of yet
I really can’t fault OwnersBox support. First up, they have a detailed FAQ section with a search facility. This section is also pretty well organized according to topic. Then, they have a ticketing system, email, and a live chat option.
When contacting support, I chose to go through their live chat. The chat box asked for my email, name, and query. As soon as I entered that info, I was put into a queue. I was number one in the queue, so immediately, I had someone replying to my questions.
Owen was super helpful and so lovely! Once I was done from the chat, I was also sent a transcript through my email. You can also upload files in the chat, so it’s great if you’re looking to send through files for verification. It was a great experience all around.
Platform at OwnersBox
Whether on desktop or mobile, OwnersBox will deliver in terms of platform thanks to the OwnersBox app. Finding the type of contest you want to compete in is easy, thanks to the filters available. The way the contests are listed makes it also quite easy to pick from the (sometimes) very long list of contests on offer.
At the top right of the screen, you’ll find a link to your profile, a toggle for the site’s appearance, a notification section (similar to social media sites), and a link to support. On the bottom right, a sticky chat window is available for any messages from friends, groups, or contests you have entered.

Platform rating
- Very user friendly designed with a lot of extras
- Not able to access the site without downloading the app
The guys at OwnersBox did an incredible job with their platform. It’s super easy to use and intuitive. Finding the type of contest you want is easy, and there’s even a filter for the rookies who just started out playing. You can filter according to game, entry, sport, and start. Then you can drag a slider to determine the entry fee and the number of entries possible. Scheduling contests is also possible whether you want these to be public or private.
On the side, there’s a feed with the latest player information from the top sports news websites and Twitter feeds, so you can always stay in touch with what’s happening. At the bottom right of the screen, there’s also a ‘messenger’ function, similar to what you would find on Facebook, and here all your messages are filtered by friends, groups, contests, or pending.
It blows my mind how well this site is presented. You can even change the appearance from a dark theme to a light theme. Under your profile, you will find everything you might need, from depositing and withdrawing to the help section to the RG area. Your profile also has a translation history, notification settings, and control over your email alerts. Everything you can think of is catered to.
