22Bet sportsbook review for 2025 — New Zealand

- Over 37 sports
- Speedy withdrawals
- Excellent mobile app
- Slow loading site
- Lacks payment information
- Poor wagering requirements
Expert verdict
As we conclude this 22Bet sportsbook review, we can happily say that this has one of the most comprehensive betting market selections for any online sportsbook. This is the best with 46 sports, not including the individual ones with VR, as well as several eSports.
On top of that, there is a wealth of bet bonuses and promotions on offer catering to new and regular players. There is even a VIP or loyalty program in place.
There are many betting options for each sport, with at least 30 betting markets. It’s also possible to make your initial deposit using various banking options, all supporting New Zealand dollars.
Finally, the website is entirely mobile-friendly as a mobile browser and app are available. Support is good with an FAQ section, live chat, and email. All in all, this is a solid choice.
Bonuses at 22Bet sportsbook NZ
We know what it’s like starting at a new betting site, so we’ll check out the promotions offered here. 22Bet Sports has various bonuses and promotions for new and returning players. First is the sportsbook welcome bonus, the initial deposit match bonus that can be claimed.
You can deposit as little as NZ$2 to claim this welcome bonus, but the maximum bonus is NZ200. It can also be claimed on both Apple and Android devices.
Returning players can also claim other free bet bonuses on the 22Bet app and desktop site. These include a Friday reload bonus to claim up to NZ$200 for your betting.

Additionally, you can claim a cashback and rebate bet bonus. Or, if you’re not so great at 22Bet betting and keep losing, a losing streak bonus will help you.
Bonus rating
- Regular players are rewarded
- Offers change regularly
- Low min. deposit requirement
- Min. odds requirement
22Bet sports betting site is off to a massively high start regarding the welcome bonus, free bets and other bonuses. I like the options available to boost your bets.
I always check the bonus amount to see how good a welcome bonus is. This is one of the highest in New Zealand, matching up to NZ$250, so more points are awarded here.
But that’s not all. Terms and conditions must be checked as they can bring down a bet bonus. While 22Bet has 5x wagering requirements, BetVictor pips it to the post with none.
That being said, make that first deposit, and you only have to deposit NZ$2 to claim it, which is far better than Excitewin’s 6x requirements and NZ$40 to claim its first deposit welcome bonus. I’ll take 22Bet over this, so it gets a higher score.
22Bet sports and markets
There must be a good betting menu on any online sports betting website. We want to make sure there are at least 30 different sports for you to bet on.
22Bet sports betting site has a wealth of different sports on offer. There are 46 different sports betting options here. These include top sports like American football, rugby, football and cricket.
There is a huge selection of eSports, too, and within this category, you can find at least ten more betting markets, including Dota 2, LoL and many others.

Sports & markets rating
- Huge eSports collection
- Many virtual sports
- Major sports are available
- Limited niche sports markets
And we have a winner! Yes, that’s right, impressively, 22Bet has the most sports on offer out of any New Zealand sportsbook. And no, you did not read that incorrectly!
Unbelievably, 22Bet has 46 different sports available, while the king of sports betting, bet365, has 43. Yes, it’s a close-run thing, but it’s still a win for 22Bet, so I’ve given points accordingly.
Betway is far off this mark with 35, though it does offer quite a lot in the way of unique markets. But still, the eSports reign supreme on 22Bet.
In short, if you want to place a bet, then 22Bet does stand out here. You can place bets on almost anything you can think of, too, so there are big points here.
Additional market details: Football is among the more popular sports on the 22Bet betting site. It’s got the most betting markets available and covers leagues and events worldwide. Not only that, but you can enjoy virtual football bets too.
Additional market details: Racing in all forms is also very popular here. There are many live streaming options and in-play betting markets you can wager on. Events aren’t just from New Zealand and Australia; there are races from Asia, the UK, Europe and the US.
Betting features at 22Bet sportsbook
A good user interface is necessary if we give any online sportsbook a good score in this category. We want to see a range of betting tools to give you a better experience when placing sports bets.
22Bet has a simple bet slip in the main page’s top right-hand corner. You can add single bets or more than one in a bet builder format to create accumulators and parlays.
22Bet also has a lot of in-play live betting options. These can be found in a separate section under life, making it easy to see the next event. Use the live stream toggle to find those events with live feeds.

This New Zealand sportsbook also offers virtual sports in a separate website section. Nine different game providers provide many of the game options here.
Betting features rating
- Lots of live betting
- Cashout available
- Simple bet builder feature
- Limited live streaming
I was happy to see that this is another section where 22Bet excelled. There is a huge selection of betting tools here, and these cover all the main options and more.
For instance, betting on a live game or match is possible. Better still, I could watch a live stream for many events to see the action unfold. This is not a possibility at Stake.
I will say that overall, 22Bet is very similar to PlayZilla in that they both offer virtual sports. However, if you want a VR bet, there are only two sports on PlayZilla compared to nine on 22Bet.
I am also a big fan of the bet slip, which made it very easy to place any bet of my choice. It’s a case of a quick click to add the new bet to your slip and change the stake you want to place.
I could easily add more bets to create accumulators. And it is possible to change the odds format in the bet slip, not just on the main site where the odds are displayed.
Additional features: Placing a bet on a virtual game is something you shouldn’t pass up here as there are many options. These VR games are operated by nine different providers, giving you access to exciting simulated sports events. It’s a fun way to start betting and learning about your chosen sport before going into real-world sports betting.
Odds
The odds are how to claim a win, so getting your hands on good odds is so important. As odds change rapidly, we always look at the payout percentage from a betting site.
A good betting site typically has a payout percentage ranging from 95% to 97%. And this is exactly where 22Bet sits, with a 95.19% payout rate.
Several sports offer good odds, with basketball taking the top spot with an average payout percentage of 96.49%. Other top sports include football (94.80%) and hockey (94.27%).
Odds facts

Average payout | 95.19% |
Boosted odds | Yes |

Line movement | Moderate |
Live odds typically drop as they change even more rapidly than pre-match odds. At 22Bet, these are 91.11%. This is somewhat lower than average, as we like to see live betting odds at around 93%.
Odds rating
- High odds for basketball
- Good average percentage payouts
- Boosted odds available
- Low live betting odds
Rather surprisingly, this is the lowest score I’ve given in this 22Bet review. But it is for a good reason, so let me explain. First, it’s got a good score because, mostly, the odds are competitive.
While Royal Panda odds are above 95.2, I will say I am not quibbling here when 22Bet has 95.19% – they’re the same and the reason this score stays in the 80s.
The marks come off when it comes to the live betting odds. Typically, these drop a couple of percentage points, but it shouldn’t be four!
And I know it’s possible to have high live odds, as William Hill admirably demonstrates, with live odds around 95%. I can’t justify the 91% odds from 22Bet at this point.
However, as the odds are above average elsewhere on the site, I keep up that high score and hope that those live odds can increase to boost this score as well.
Payment methods
Many players overlook the importance of having a range of withdrawal and deposit options. We don’t, so we always want to see at least ten payment methods.
As we outline in this 22Bet review, this instant play website has a huge number of payment methods on offer. It has the most payment options for any betting site in New Zealand, with 52 options.
Specifically, there are 52 deposit options on offer and 36 withdrawal methods available. Deposits can be as little as NZ$2, enough to claim the welcome bonus.

Deposits are also instant, except for some cryptos, which can take longer. Withdrawals using eWallets also give you 15-minute payouts, which is very fast. There are also no fees listed for any of the payment options on this site. These can also be accessed and used when playing on your mobile device.
Payments rating
- Speedy withdrawals
- Low minimum deposit
- No withdrawal limit
- Lacks payment information
- Slower withdrawals for some options
I was amazed by the sheer number of payment options available. I don’t think I have ever been presented with 50+ payment methods for making my first deposit. But there’s a first for everything.
Previously, I thought Winz.io, with 21 payment methods, was the pinnacle, but no. I also really like the fact that 22Bet makes sure that there are a large number of options for both withdrawals and deposits across fiat money and crypto options.
I wasn’t even disheartened by the TAB’s lower minimum deposit of NZ$0.01. And this is because I think NZ$2 from 22Bet is incredibly reasonable.
The fact that this is all you need to claim a bet bonus is also one of the reasons I have kept my 22Bet review score so high. In short, it’s awesome, and I have no complaints.
Safety features
When you place bets online, you’re handing over some of your private banking details to the sportsbook. This means that you do need to play somewhere safe and secure.
We never recommend playing anywhere that isn’t licenced. 22Bet has more than one licence, and these are from Curacao and Kahnawake. Both of which means New Zealanders can enjoy playing here.
The site is also protected with 128-bit SSL encryption, and this means that when you provide your details to make a new betting account, they are all kept safe and secure.

Safety rating
- Fully licensed
- SSL-encryption protocols
- Good responsible gambling measures
- Lacks wager and loss limits
As expected, 22Bet does tick all the boxes regarding security. At this point, though, I didn’t expect anything less, so let’s dive in and see what it offers.
If I have to be picky, I will say that the 256-bit encryption protocol is great. It still ensures everything is secure, but Ladbrokes has better security with its 2046-bit, so it could be done better.
PlayUp has 128-bit, unlike 22Bet, but it has an Aussie licence from NTRC rather than the Curaçao licence held by 22Bet. It’s not comparable, so I’m not knocking off any points here.
In the future, to bump up the score, I’d like to see better security and maybe some more unique security features in place. Some more personalized, responsible gambling options would help here, too.
Customer support
Even when a site is incredibly easy to use and works well with no glitches, contacting the support team quickly and easily if needed is important.
There are two contact options on 22Bet: email and live chat. The latter is available 24/7 and can be found on the bottom right of each page.
Clicking on the live chat gets you in a queue, and within minutes, a real person is there, ready to help out. Emails are good for longer queries but take longer to respond.

- 24/7 live chat
- Technical information provided
- Speedy chat responses
- Limited FAQ information
- No phone support
If it’s not clear by now, then it should be. Yes, I am giving great scores across the board for 22Bet because, quite simply, it deserves it on all fronts.
I dropped the score for this category, as there are only two different contact options here. In contrast, 888Sport has a phone too, which would be nice to see here in future.
I was also a little underwhelmed by the FAQs 22Bet offers. Yes, they do cover the main topics, but none of them is done so in any detail. I had to get in touch to find out about payment methods, for example, as there is a dearth of information on the site.
That being said, getting in touch is easy and yes, SportsBet, unlike yours, the support staff were fast to respond and ultra helpful. They helped keep this score where it is, and deservedly so.
Platform: impressive 22Bet betting app
Finally, it’s important that you can access the website no matter where you are or what device you are using. Preferably any mobile platform will be the same as the desktop one.

For starters, 22Bet is fully mobile-friendly and has an free betting app and a browser site. Both match the main desktop version, so you can enjoy live betting, claiming bonuses, placing bets and depositing money when on the go.
The site has many different filters and a search bar to see the full lineup of sports on offer easily. You can also scroll through all the bonuses in the promotions section of the page.

As we have covered in this 22Bet sports review, it’s not just a site with sports. Several other verticals exist, including an online casino, poker, lottery and virtual sports offerings.
You’ll find plenty of casino games, including online slot games. Their casino also has decent live dealer games available.

Platform rating
- Many additional verticals
- Excellent filters
- Lots of information
- Slow loading
This is probably one of the lower scores in my 22Bet review, and I do not give this lightly. But first, let’s take a look at the positives here.
The 22Bet app is excellent, mirroring the main site well. However, you can only download the 22Bet app from the website directly – it’s not available at either of the app stores, so don’t go looking.
In terms of design, I like the colour scheme, and this soft teal is far better than the annoying acres of white space the LeoVegas site uses to create a clean, modern look.
However, I dropped a few points off here as 22Bet is cluttered. There are many betting markets, bonuses, odds, sports categories, etc. It isn’t evident. Give me the simpler MyBookie interface any day.
