Expert verdict

The betOcean online casino is a decent choice, and with a land-based casino resort attached, it’s got a name for itself. That being said, it’s not the biggest or strongest online casino on the market.

The game library is good, and it’s definitely the choice for players who prefer slots. With 1,100+ slots available, and many of them from top software providers like NetEnt, Playtech, and Big Time Gaming, slots fans will be happy here.

Another strong aspect of betOcean’s offering is its customer support and RG suite. While email support isn’t reliable, betOcean has live chat support, and phone support is available from 10 am to 12 am. As for the RG suite, you’ll find an informative RG page, complete with a video introduction, and a good range of RG tools to help make your gaming experience as safe as possible.

When it comes to bonuses, however, this is where betOcean could improve. The welcome bonus is held back by a 25x wagering requirement and a minimum deposit of $25. There are also no other regular casino promotions listed, but betOcean sends emails with offers when they’re available.

There also isn’t the widest payments offering, with just VISA and Mastercard, and a few other options like Play+, VIP preference, and Cash at Cage. Debit cards aren’t available for withdrawals, and e-wallets aren’t available at all.

Overall, betOcean is a decent online casino, but it’s not the choice for experienced players who have higher expectations of what they want from their online casino experience.

Where is betOcean legal?

The betOcean online casino is available for players based anywhere in New Jersey. You can register for an account and make deposits and withdrawals from any state, but you can only play and make bets from inside New Jersey.

Bonuses and loyalty at betOcean

The New Member Welcome Offer at betOcean is a 100% deposit match bonus on your first deposit, up to $1,000. The minimum deposit for this bonus is $25, and the deposit bonus is available immediately. Players have seven days from registration to claim the 100% deposit match bonus. It’s awarded as a pre-wager bonus, with 25x wagering requirements.

Slots contribute 100% to the wager requirement, except for restricted slots. You’ll find the list of slots that don’t contribute to the wagering requirement in the terms and conditions of the bonus. Video poker contributes 50% to the wager requirement, and you have two days to play the bonus before it expires.

There’s also a loyalty program. Every cash wager is converted into betOcean Online Reward Points, with the number of points earned varying according to the game. For slots, every $10 wager awards one Reward Point. With roulette, it’s $20, and for live dealers, blackjack, video poker, and other table games, it’s one point for every $30 wager.

Accumulating Reward Points also increases your Loyalty Status. There are five loyalty levels: Blue, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Elite. The Loyalty Status level resets each month, and if you don’t meet the right number of points to maintain your current level, you’ll start the new month with a lower loyalty level.

The Reward Points can be redeemed for bonus cash. The number of points required to redeem each $5 increment of your bonus is dependent on your Loyalty Status at the time. Higher loyalty levels require fewer Reward Points to redeem for bonus cash. For instance, at the Blue Level, it takes 1,200 points to get $5, but at the Platinum Level, you only need 300 points. All bonus cash comes with a 1x wagering requirement.

You also earn Ocean Rewards Tier points for the Ocean Casino Resort loyalty program when you play online. One betOcean online Reward Point is equal to one Ocean Rewards Tier point.

Players also receive weekly email offers from betOcean for deposit match bonuses, free spins, and other promotions.

Bonus rating

78/100 New Member Bonus sounds good on paper
  • Deposit match bonus up to $1,000
  • Loyalty program
  • Not all slots are eligible for wagering
  • 25x wagering on deposit bonus

I was hoping to find a little more available at betOcean, but many of their bonuses are awarded via email, so they change from time to time.

The New Member Welcome Offer is interesting, and in most ways is on par with the industry average. Hard Rock Bet, for example, also awards a $1,000 deposit match bonus. The difference there, however, is that Hard Rock Bet’s minimum deposit is $10 and its wagering requirement is just 10x.

10x was already a little high, so a 25x wagering requirement is pretty high. The minimum deposit might also feel high for some players at $25. Plus, the bonus is only valid for two days, which is tight, and not all of the slots can be used for wagering. Most of them can, but you need to be aware of the restricted list.

The loyalty program is a good addition. The conversion system from wagers into points makes sense, although one point for every $30 wager on table games and video poker is a lot. Not a lot of detail was given about the perks of the loyalty program, other than that you can convert it into bonus cash, which is a nice feature to have.

Games available at betOcean

The betOcean online casino has 1,200+ games available. Its collection is made up of slots, table games, live dealer games, jackpots, and video poker.

There are 1,100+ slots, which include a mixture of themes, like animals, fruit machines, fishing, seasonal, Egyptian, Greek, and space. The slot collection has 17 Hold and Win slots, like Wolf Canyon Hold and Win, and there are also 72 Megaways, including The Goonies Megaways, Monopoly Megaways, and Cleopatra Megaways.

In the RNG table section, there are 50 table games. You’ll find RNG baccarat, blackjack, poker, and roulette. As for jackpot slots, betOcean has over 100 titles, and there are 12 options for video poker. A few mini games, like Mines, are available too.

The live dealer section at betOcean has six live games. This includes three blackjack tables, one baccarat table, and two game shows. These are Buffalo Blitz Live and Adventures Beyond Wonderland.

You’ll also find two original games by VZN, powered by Playtech. These are two versions of betOcean Blackjack.

Game types

Games rating

82/100 Well-stocked with slots
  • 1,200+ games available
  • 50 table games
  • Limited live dealer selection
  • Limited mini games selection

For players who prefer a smaller casino, betOcean would be a good choice. It doesn’t have 6,000+ games like BetMGM, but 1,200+, which could feel less overwhelming.

That being said, the game offering is predominantly slots here, 1,100+ of them. The slot selection is good, there’s a good mixture of small niche slots with classic games. What’s missing here, though, is the variety achieved by having different game types.

The table games offering is fine, with 50 available. Adding a few more definitely wouldn’t hurt, especially if that includes other types of table games like Sic Bo and other roulette and poker variations, but at least there are options for RNG table game fans.

There aren’t a lot of mini games, like Plinko, but you’ll find a couple by using the search bar. It’s the live games section that I find the most limited, though.

Only six games are available, and there isn’t even a roulette option. Even for fans of blackjack and baccarat, it’s a limited choice of games. Hard Rock Bet has over 70 live games, which makes betOcean pale in comparison.

Software rating

80/100 Some top providers are on the list
  • Works with 21 providers
  • Works with NetEnt
  • Two live games provider
  • No bespoke software

It’s not the biggest list of software providers that I’ve come across for an online casino, but there’s plenty of good in it. For starters, betOcean works with some of the top software providers on the market, like NetEnt, Playtech, and Light and Wonder. These partnerships allow betOcean to have some good games available in its small library.

There are even two live games providers, including Evolution, which is one of the best. Evolution also allows betOcean to have two game show options.

On the other hand, there’s definitely room to include either more providers or more of the current providers’ games. betOcean also doesn’t have any bespoke software; a unique offering that would help make its game library more attractive since it offers exclusivity.

Bespoke games and software are built to be compatible with the online casino, which leads to an enhanced gaming experience.

Payment methods accepted at betOcean

To make deposits at betOcean, you can use VISA and Mastercard credit and debit cards, VIP Preferred ACH e-checks, Play+ prepaid cards, Paysafe Cash, and Cash at Cage. The minimum deposit is $20, except for Cash at Cage, where it’s $50.

For withdrawals, it’s VIP Preferred ACH e-checks, Play+ prepaid cards, and Cash at Cage. The minimum withdrawal is $1, except for Cash at Cage, which has a minimum of $50. Maximum withdrawals vary, too, with Play+ and Cash at Cage having a maximum withdrawal of $1,000,000, but it’s $10,000,000 for e-checks.

Payments rating

70/100 Decent range of options, but room for more
  • Six payment methods
  • Average withdrawal review time
  • $20 minimum deposit is high
  • Withdrawal options are limited

Six payment methods is ok, and what’s available is decent, but when you compare it with online casinos like SugarHouse, which has 11 payment methods, it doesn’t sound so good.

What’s missing from betOcean’s payment options lineup is e-wallets. A few more credit card options would have been nice, although you can use Play+ prepaid cards anywhere Discover is accepted.

E-wallets, though, don’t appear at all, and they’re a much more convenient payment method for online casinos. Borgata, for instance, has all the payment options betOcean has, but alongside those options has PayPal, Skrill, and Apple Pay, which shows they’re an in-demand payment option.

The minimum deposit is on the high side, too, at $20, and even higher for Cash at Cage, where it’s $50. Horseshoe, for example, has a minimum deposit of just $10, which is a lot more accessible.

Is betOcean safe?

The betOcean online casino is owned by AC Ocean Walk, LLC. It’s the online casino extension of Ocean Casino Resort, and it’s authorized by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

It has 256-bit SSL encryption with RSA technology, and two-factor authentication is available. betOcean works with independently audited software providers, and mentions the use of RNGs in its FAQs. All players must be based in New Jersey and must be 21 or older to play, meaning you’ll have to undergo age verification to join.

The downloadable apps offer a similar experience to playing on desktop, but several players in online forums state that they had issues when trying to withdraw from the app.

There’s a dedicated RG page found via the footer. There’s also the Responsible Gaming logo and the helpline number.

The RG page has a five-minute video by betOcean, which explains what problematic gambling looks like and what it means using illustrations and a narrator. The video also gives tips to help prevent developing a gambling addiction. The video ends with a list of problematic gambling behaviors to look out for, and lists 800Gambler and Gamblers Anonymous as professional resources that players can reach out to.

The safe gaming video explains the available RG tools at betOcean, encouraging players to use them and where to find them. They can be found and set up via your account. There are deposit, time, and wager limits, including single wager limits, time-outs, and self-exclusion. Deposit and wager limits can be set on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to help control your spending.

Single wager limits are used to set a maximum wager limit for each individual wager transaction. Time limits allow you to control the number of minutes or hours that you’re able to log in to betOcean per day.

Time-outs are available for a cooling-off period from gambling. The minimum number of hours is 72, and it can last for a maximum of six months. During a time out, you won’t be able to log in to your account. Self-exclusion is available for a more serious break. Your account will be locked for a minimum of 12 months, and won’t be reactivated until the self-exclusion period is over.

The RG page also lists the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey as a professional source players can access for information, education, and referral services for anyone affected. You’ll also find a series of links to the 800Gambler website, explaining the myths associated with gambling, potential signs of a problem, FAQs, practical safety tips, and more.

Safety rating

94/100 Good RG approach
  • Structured RG page
  • Informative RG video
  • Six RG tools
  • Self-exclusion minimum is 12 months

The first thing I noticed about betOcean’s RG page is how structured it is. Everything has its place, and there are clickable information boxes where you can find all the details on each topic and tool. It’s tidier and easier to compartmentalize everything.

The video introduction to RG and the tools available was a great idea, in my opinion. A lot of RG pages will paste a wall of text explaining what RG is, what problematic gambling looks like, and all the tips you need to know. Which is necessary and important, but it’s a lot of reading. betOcean’s video makes it more interactive and easier to follow, meaning the point should get across better.

The tools available are good, too. I particularly liked that there are two kinds of wager limits. It means you can really have control and set limits on your spending.

The only aspect of the RG tools that I didn’t like is the gap between time-outs and self-exclusion. Time-outs are available up to a maximum of six months, which is the standard, but typically, self-exclusion takes over and starts at a minimum of six months.

At betOcean, the minimum is 12 months, which is a long time to start your self-exclusion journey. It also doesn’t give any other time periods, so it’s unclear how long you can run it for.

Reaching out to support at betOcean

Support at betOcean is available via live chat, email, ticketing, and phone support. Email and phone support are available every day between 10 am and 12 am.

Live chat support is the fastest and most reliable option. When I tested the service, an agent answered me within seconds. It’s also available to non-members. One live chat agent I spoke with provided clear and detailed answers, which sometimes included links to other parts of the site; however, another agent that I spoke with wasn’t as helpful or polite.

Although it’s listed as being available 24/7 on the Get Started page, there was one time I reached out to support via the live chat where the chatbot informed me it was outside of support hours. The chatbot listed the operating hours as 10 am and 12 am, like the other support methods.

Email support isn’t as fast, as after four days I didn’t get an answer, and the ticketing service was the same. The ticketing system is found in the help center. You first choose the category you need, and then you’ll see a series of questions, similar to the FAQs. If none of the questions have your answer, then you can fill out the ticket request form.

Phone support is better. When you dial the customer support number, 609-782-0007, the first 20 seconds are an introductory answering machine followed by hold music until an agent picks up. In my case, I waited an additional 20 seconds to be put through to an agent.

In the Help Center, you’ll find the FAQs section. There are several questions and answers on account information, account verification, security and support, technical support, deposits, withdrawals, free spins and bonuses, and live dealer games. There’s also a video tutorial on how to redeem loyalty points on the betOcean app.

Support rating

90/100 Live chat is the way to go at betOcean
  • Live chat support available
  • Four support methods available
  • Good FAQs page
  • No answer from email support

Overall, I was satisfied with the quality of the support I received at betOcean. That’s mostly thanks to the efficient live chat team, but the FAQs are a valuable resource for players, and phone support is good, too.

A responsive live chat service is always the stronger and more attractive support feature, but I was hoping to at least get an email response. Four days and no response, meaning if you have an urgent request, just go straight to the live chat or phone support.

The usability of betOcean’s platform

The site’s design is clean and neutral. The background color is gray, with light blue accents and white text, keeping it all in line with the brand.

betOcean real-money casino mobile lobby

The UX is decent, with a sidebar containing shortcuts to major game types like slots, tables, live dealer, jackpots, and video poker. There’s also a separate shortcut for the banking page where you’ll find the payment details, and underneath that there are the buttons for the Help Center and Get Started, which explain how to sign up.

In the navbar at the top there are buttons for the casino, the promotions page, and the rewards page. The footer has links for the terms and conditions, the about us page, the RG page, contact us, and other essential pages.

The game lobby has a search bar that offers a simple search function. You can use this to search for games by name. There isn’t a shortcut for the providers, and other game types don’t have shortcuts either, like mini games or Hold and Win slots.

The betOcean online casino has a downloadable mobile app for both Android and iOS users. It offers the same New Member Welcome Offer and the full suite of games, although some user complaints share that they had issues withdrawing from the app.

Usability rating

85/100 Neutral design, navigation could be better
  • Casino app on iOS and Android
  • Decent navigation
  • Missing game filters
  • Design feels dated

The website is almost where it needs to be. You can see there’s been a lot of consideration for player needs, like having a Get Started page, which goes into detail about how to sign up, and the RG page, which has a video explaining how to stay safe.

But then, small touches that would make players’ lives and their gaming experiences much easier and smoother are lacking. For instance, having more game filters. Having one filter for all the slots is limited, and makes it hard to see the full range of games and themes available. Plus, other game types like mini games need their own filter, otherwise, you’d only know they’re there by accident by using the search bar.

The biggest issue here is that there isn’t a filter for the software providers. Many players prefer to search by provider or want to see the range of slots available from a specific provider, so not being able to even see who betOcean works with in a list is a bit of a problem.

The design also feels a bit dated. It’s clean, neutral, and easy on the eyes, which is all good stuff, but the overall feel isn’t modern.
