Reactoonz 2 slot review

Checked by Paul P.

Following the success of the original slot, Play’n GO released Reactoonz 2 in 2020. This addition has an RTP of 96.2%, paired with high volatility, and is yet again packed with bonus features like the Gargantoon Wild, the Quantumeter, and the Fluctometer.

The slot is played on the same 7×7 grid, awarding wins in clusters which cause the cascading reels to kick into action. To learn more about the Toonz world, keep reading my Reactoonz 2 slot review.

Reactoonz 2 slot review summary

Head back to outer space with Reactoonz 2. This slot is played on a 7×7 grid like the original Reactoonz slot, with the same toonz style characters. It’s colorful, quirky, and has lots of character. The slot has also retained the same animations that bring it to life, like the toonz chattering, glowing, yawning, and the laser beams.

Reactoonz 2 builds on the bonus features of the first Reactoonz slot, delivering more frequent and engaging promos. The Gargantoon is still around, but the Energoon Wild is released initially, zipping around the grid to create opportunities for further cluster wins. The Fluctometer and the Wild Pair Explosions are particularly standout bonus features from this slot.

The RTP has remained more or less the same from the first slot, settling at 96.2%, with high volatility. Reactoonz 2 has a maximum win of 5,083x your bet, with the highest symbol awarding a payout of $50,000 for 15 symbols when played at maximum bet.

Pros

  • Better and frequent promos

  • Good value for average wins

  • 96.2% RTP

Cons

  • High volatility not ideal for low-rollers

  • Bonus features heavy on Wilds

  • Lower payouts than the original

Reactoonz 2 comprehensive review

In this Reactoonz 2 slot review, I’ll be covering all the essential details you need to know before diving into the world of toonz. That includes the Reactoonz 2 slot RTP and volatility, its payouts, and all the various bonuses that are available. At the end, I’ll go into how the slot works and how to play it.

RTP and volatility

Reactoonz 2 has an RTP of 96.2% and high volatility. Like its predecessor, Ractoonz 2 is played on a 7×7 grid and wins are awarded in clusters, so long as the matching symbols are touching. This can go both horizontally and vertically.

Alongside the cluster wins, there’s also the cascading reels mechanic. This occurs after a cluster win. The winning symbols disappear from the grid, and new symbols fall into the empty symbol positions, refreshing the grid. This keeps happening until there aren’t any more wins on the reels for that spin.

Reactoonz 2’s RTP is 96.2%, which is almost identical to the first slot and remains on par with the industry average. This should allow for a fairly balanced game, despite the high volatility.

Like the first slot, I felt that Reactoonz 2’s volatility leaned more towards medium than high, which is largely due to the cluster wins and cascading reels. Since there aren’t any paylines binding the symbols to specific shapes, a win can occur anywhere, and they tend to trigger more wins once the cascades begin. Still, high volatility can always be unpredictable, so play your bets wisely.

Bonus features

Reactoonz 2 comes in swinging with seven bonus features.

Fluctometer and Electric Wilds
With this feature, a one-eyed symbol is randomly selected to fluctuate on each round, causing all matching symbols to glow. When the fluctuating symbols win, an Electric Wild appears in any spot where a symbol was removed.

The Fluctometer, which is the circular grid on the upper right of the grid, can hold up to 11 charges. It’s charged each time there’s a win, and continues to charge with each cascading win. When there are no more wins, the charges reset to zero. The Fluctometer is also disabled when the Gargantoon is released.

When it’s full, the Fluctometer will randomly create up to three Electric Wilds anywhere on the reels.

Quantumeter

Regular symbols that have been removed from the reels thanks to an Electric Wild charge the Quantumeter. This sits on the right of the grid, holding the Gargantoon and an Energoon. The Quantumeter continues to charge with each cascading win until it releases an Energoon, which acts like a Wild.

It will also continue to charge after the Energoon has been released, until the Gargantoon is released. If there are no more wins present on the reels, the Quantumeter resets.

The Quantumeter has four charge levels and can hold up to 135 charges. Collect 55 charges for level 1, 85 for level 2, and 110 for level 3. This leads to the Quantumeter being fully charged at 135 charges. After that, it’s overcharged, which is where level 4 kicks in.

Energoon

The Energoon hangs out in the Quantumeter until it’s time. This feature is triggered if the Quantumeter doesn’t reach level 3. At level 2, one 2×2 Energoon will appear anywhere on the reels, at the cost of 30 charges. At level 1, four regular-sized Energoons appear on the reels, at the cost of 55 charges.

The Energoon acts as a Wild, creating winning combinations with any symbols that it touches.

Gargantoon

When the Quantumeter is at level 3 or higher, the Gargantoon is released. This also acts as a Wild. In this case, one 3×3 Gargantoon will appear anywhere on the reels. If the Quantumeter is at level 4, a 2x multiplier will be added for all wins that include the Gargantoon.

After the 3×3 Gargantoon triggers a cascading win, it will be replaced by two 2×2 Gargantoons. If these trigger another cascading win, they’ll be replaced by nine regular-sized Gargantoons.

Wild Pair Explosion

This feature is activated when all other features are done, but there are two or more Electric Wilds still on the reels. If the Electric Wilds are next to each other, all other symbols, except other Wilds, are removed from the reels.

If the Electric Wilds aren’t close together, only the symbols in between them and their surrounding symbols are removed, excluding other Wilds. Any symbols that are removed during a Wild Pair Explosion do not count towards payouts, but will charge the Quantumeter.

Uncharged Wilds

An Uncharged Wild can appear on the reels during any cascade. These symbols don’t form part of wins, but they can transform into Electric Wilds if they’re horizontally or vertically adjacent to winning symbols, or if the Wild Pair Explosion feature is triggered.

After all the winning clusters have been awarded and all cascades have been completed, the features are triggered in this order: Fluctometer, Quantumeter, and Wild Pair Explosion.

Yet again, Play’n GO has put together a slot that’s packed with bonuses. Reactoonz 2 performs much more strongly, in my opinion, than the original slot when it comes to bonus features.

For starters, in my experience, the promos in this slot triggered much more frequently. I even managed to trigger the Gargantoon after just 80 spins. Secondly, the combination of these bonus features, and when they’re triggered, makes them much more lucrative.

Each feature is designed to trigger as soon as another one has finished, as long as you’ve reached the right number of charges or have finished all potential wins and cascades. This means that you can spend a good few minutes just going from one bonus feature to the next, which is the experience I had until I got the Gargantoon.

Something I did notice, though, is that the bonuses do rely heavily on Wilds, and while Wilds are great, especially in clusters, it would be nice to change things up with a free spins or respins round. Some of the features, like the Wild Pair Explosion, don’t even contribute to payouts, but just add to the stored charges.

Symbols and paytable

Reactoonz 2 has eight paying symbols. These are divided into one-eyed symbols and two-eyed symbols. The yellow, green, red, and purple one-eyed symbols are the lower-paying symbols.

The yellow and green one-eyed symbols and the red and purple one-eyed symbols have the same payouts. On a bet of $1, the yellow and green toonz will award a payout of $0.10 for five of a kind, and a payout of $3 for 15 or more. The red and purple toonz pay out $0.15 for five symbols and $10 for 15 or more on the same bet value.

There’s a jump in the payout values between the one-eyed symbols and the two-eyed symbols. The two-eyed orange toon, for instance, awards a payout of $0.60 for five symbols when the bet is set to $1. If you land 15 or more symbols, that payout is $100, and it’s $200 if you land 15 symbols with the green two-eyed toon.

The highest-paying symbol in the game is the purple two-eyed symbol. It’s a payout of $1 for five on a bet of $1, and landing 15+ awards a payout of $500. On the maximum bet of $100, that payout is $50,000.

The maximum win on Reactoonz 2 is 5,083x your bet.

The lowest-paying symbols have the same payout values as Reactoonz, which is great. The average payouts are good, and there’s a nice steady increase between symbols.

What disappointed me was that the highest-paying symbols have lower payout values on Reactoonz 2 than in Reactoonz. The maximum win has gone from $75,000 to $50,000. It’s still a nice big win for 15 symbols, but it’s a shame that it’s been lowered so much. In fact, it’s the only element of this slot that I was disappointed with.

Still, a bet of $100 can be much more rewarding than other slots. Fruit Shop Megaways, for example, awards a maximum payout of $1,250 for six symbols on the same bet.

How to play the Reactoonz 2 slot

The bet range on Reactoonz 2 is $0.20 to $100. You adjust your bet by selecting one of the betting options underneath the grid, but you can press the plus and minus buttons to scroll through the full range of betting values.

To start spinning the reels, press the green spin button. Next to it, you’ll find an orange autoplay button. This opens the autoplay menu, which lets you run 10, 20, 50, 75, or 100 autospins. There are additional settings to stop the autoplay if your wins, balance, or losses exceed a certain amount.

Next to the spin button, there’s your current bet value, and on the other side of the betting options, there’s your current balance. The ‘i’ button next to it opens the information box. This explains the bonus features, symbols, and the paytable.

At the very bottom of the game window, you’ll find the mute button, the ‘?’ which brings up further game rules, and a lightning bolt for quick spins. There’s a very small difference in speed between regular spins and quick spins.

Expert verdict

Reactoonz 2 is a great sequel in the Toonz series. I love that Play’n GO built on the original bonus features, instead of just recycling them. It means the slot has retained most of the best parts of the original slot and comes with some improvements that make it a solid standalone game.

For high-rollers, this is still a good choice for you, with that high volatility and the potential for some big wins, given the bet-to-payout ratio. The lower maximum win is frustrating, but $50,000 for 15 symbols is still great, and given the nature of cluster wins, not that unlikely.

For greener players, this slot does move quite fast, since the cascading reels occur quite frequently and trigger one bonus feature after another. I’d only move on to Reactoonz 2 once you’ve gotten comfortable with the general formula by playing Reactoonz first.
