Expert verdict

Big Fish Casino is a good contender for a social casino app. If you’re someone who enjoys slots, there are over 100 of them for you to try out here, although be advised that you’ll need to advance your XP level to access many of them. Plus, there are some jackpots too, which are always cool to find.

As for promotions, it’s hard for Big Fish to do better. The free 500,000 chips you get for signing up are just the tip of the iceberg here. The progressive daily login promotion is definitely lucrative, especially when paired with the daily wheel spin and the regular chips you can get from the vaults. The Bronze Vault awards chips every 30 minutes, which is a highlight.

Some areas could be better, which, for me, are RG and customer support. With RG, there just aren’t enough tools available. Self-exclusion is great, but any app that offers purchases should also offer limit settings, too. It’s so easy for things to get out of hand.

All in all, Big Fish social casino offers players a great gaming experience. High-quality games, frequent promotions, and lots of incentives for getting to know other players on the app – if that’s something that appeals to you, then Big Fish is worth trying out.

State differences

Big Fish is a social casino with no redemptions involved. This means you can use it in every state in the United States.

How does Big Fish casino work?

Since Big Fish is a social casino, you play slots with free tokens. On this platform, the free tokens are called chips. These are awarded regularly via promotions, but you can choose to purchase additional ones if you need to.

There’s a second virtual currency on Big Fish, called Gold. These can also be purchased from the store if you need to, but they’re often awarded as prizes for some games or when you level up.

Gold is used to buy gifts from the gift store, which includes giving virtual chips to yourself or to someone else. You can also use it for fun gifts. To do this, however, your account must be more than 72 hours old.

Another, less frequent currency, is reward tickets. They’re included in purchase packs and can be spent at the reward center to claim prizes, which aren’t specified but could be tokens, Gold, or gifts.

Bonuses and loyalty at Big Fish

When you sign up at Big Fish, your account will be credited with 500,000 chips. Following that, you can claim the daily login bonus. This is a progressive bonus, awarding a total of 192,500 chips if you log in and claim it every day, as follows:

  • Day 1: 5,000 chips
  • Day 2: 10,000 chips
  • Day 3: 25,000 chips
  • Day 4: 30,000 chips
  • Day 5: 35,000 chips
  • Day 6: 37,500 chips
  • Day 7+: 50,000 chips

There’s also a daily wheel spin, which can award from 18,000 chips up to a maximum of 100,000 chips. Once you’ve completed your free wheel spin, you can choose to pay for another spin, which costs $0.99. Once you’ve claimed your daily login bonus and your daily wheel spin, you’ll get a summary of how many chips you’ve claimed on the day.

In the bottom right corner of the app, there’s the bonus vaults button. There are three bonus vaults, but you can only claim the first two to start with. The third vault becomes available after you’ve reached level 15 in the app.

The first vault is the bronze vault. This awards between 1,400 chips and 2,800 chips every 30 minutes. The second vault is the silver vault. This has a longer wait time of four hours, but it can award between 1,500 chips and 3,300 chips. The third vault is the gold vault, which awards 3,500+ chips.

There are two level systems that you need to progress with on Big Fish Casino. One of these is your XP level, and the other is your VIP level. Your XP level is set to level 1 when you join. This level is increased just by playing games in the social casino and every spin contributes.

It’s not clear how many spins are needed to advance a level, but the level bar around your avatar shows how far is left to go. When you reach a new level, you’re awarded chips and VIP points. You also unlock new games with every level, along with app features like Slot Tournaments and Treasures, which are available at level 10.

Your VIP level works a bit differently. This starts out on Tier 0. To increase your level, you need to earn VIP points by playing games, advancing your XP level, or making a purchase. Each of the 15 VIP tiers come with different benefits, like early access to slots, an increased maximum daily spin value on the wheel, a collection multiplier, increased chip and gold packages, and even access to VIP slots.

On the left side of the app, you’ll see a button called Prize Pass. This brings up a pop-up that displays rewards you can claim for completing certain challenges. The rewards are typically chips. You can unlock Premium Rewards by paying for a Premium Prize Pass for $4.99.

The challenges you need to complete are game milestones, like betting a certain amount, winning 50 times, and getting 15 big wins. The challenges change every eight days.

Another promotion at Big Fish is the Piggy Bank. Name your Piggy Bank, and it’ll store bonus chips from every spin you make. The Piggy Bank chips are new bonus chips and aren’t taken from your winnings. You can view your Piggy Bank with your vaults and when you select the menu button during any game. If you want to open your Piggy Bank, it’ll cost $4.99.

If you view your account, you’ll see you have Likes and Gifts. When you’re playing a game with other players, you can give them Likes and Gifts, and they can return the same to you.

There are several gifts you can give. The Pink Ribbon and Purse Pup are examples of free gifts, although most of the gifts cost between 100 and 2,000 chips. Some gifts, like some of the beverages, cost just 1-5 chips. Alternatively, you can give another player chips, which often come with a fun gift, too.

You can also join a Jackpot Club. You’ll earn a one-time join bonus of 50,000 free chips, and when members in the club win a jackpot, everybody wins. The clubs have a limit on how many players can join, and they encourage camaraderie among players.

Big Fish Casino also has a Daily Friend promotion. When you add friends, you’ll get 1,000 chips for every friend, up to a maximum of 25,000 chips. When playing Jackpot Magic Slots, it’s 10,000 chips for each friend, up to a maximum of 250,000 chips.

One other way to claim free chips is by signing up to the newsletter. Promotions will be sent via email, which you can then redeem for chips. You can also look out for promotions on Facebook.

Bonus rating

90/100 Big Fish is big on being social
  • Chips every 30 minutes
  • Progressive daily login promotion
  • Promotions encourage player interaction
  • No friend referral bonus

There’s so much going on here, and honestly, it’s all good in my book. The most attractive promotion is the vaults since they award chips so regularly, and they’re pretty decent rewards, too.

The daily wheel spin is another super feature, although the maximum win of 100,000 doesn’t sound like much when compared with Lobstermania Slots’ maximum win of 12,000,000 coins. The good news is that this value will increase as your VIP Tier increases, so it’s not forever.

The combination of the daily wheel spin and the daily login promotion can be pretty lucrative anyway. I once got a total of 50,000 chips since I got 45,000 chips from my wheel spin and another 5,000 chips from the login promotion.

Like in Lobstermania Slots, some promotional features need to be unlocked with higher XP levels, which I don’t mind. It gives you something to work for and to look forward to. Where Big Fish does better than Lobstermania Slots is by having the right balance of promotions. There aren’t too many and the screen isn’t flooded with promotions, but there’s enough going on to keep you engaged.

There isn’t a friend referral bonus, but at least you’ll get a bonus for making friends on the app. In fact, a few of the promotions focus on interacting with other players, which is nice to see. Instead of the typical banner showcasing the biggest wins of the moment, Big Fish gives players incentives to add friends and chat with other players.

Games available at Big Fish

Big Fish has over 100 games. They’re all slot games, developed by Product Madness. The games are divided into two sections: Slots and VIP Slots. The latter is where you’ll find the progressive jackpot slots.

When you first join Big Fish Casino, you’ll only have access to one game: Yo’ Yeti. It has a minimum bet of 100 chips, but other games come with lower minimum bets.

To unlock the rest of the games, you need to advance your XP level, which is done fairly quickly by playing games. With each level, more games are unlocked in both the regular Slots and VIP Slots, and all the games are available by level 25.

Once you reach level 10, you’ll unlock Slots Tournaments in the Slots section. You’ll find other slot tournaments are available in VIP Slots, and these are available to access before level 10. It’s not clear if they’re different from the Slots Tournaments in the Slots section.

Tournaments run frequently, but you’ll only be able to join those of the games you’ve unlocked. You can check the countdown timer to see when a tournament is starting. It will also list the minimum bet and the prize pool.

When you reach VIP Tier 4, you’ll have full access to the section. Alternatively, you can buy access with 6,000,000 chips for $9.99. Some tournaments are VIP Only, too. The first of these is unlocked at level 11.

Games rating

88/100 Good games and cool tournaments
  • 100+ bespoke games
  • Regular tournaments
  • Jackpot games
  • No table games or live casino games

Big Fish is definitely the social casino app for players who enjoy slots. You won’t find any table games or live casino games here, which is the only downside. For slot fans, there’s a colorful and vibrant range of slots, and all of them have quirky themes, so they’re quite amusing.

It’s a little strange that you can’t access all the games as soon as you get started, but Lobstermania Slots has the same format. At least with Lobstermania Slots, you could play more than one game to start with. Admittedly, I unlocked many of the games very quickly. My XP level went from 1 to 4 with around 25 spins, so you move through levels quickly.

The layout isn’t confusing, but some things aren’t clear. Primarily, why there’s a Slots Tournaments in the Slots section that you can only unlock at level 10, and a Slot Tournaments option in VIP Slots that you can access as long as you’ve unlocked certain games. I only reached level 5 during my time testing the casino, so I haven’t unlocked everything yet.

All the same, I appreciated how many tournaments there are and how regular they are. You can join quick tournaments, sometimes more than one for each game per day.

80/100 Mobile-first is the focus for Big Fish
  • Bespoke software
  • Mobile-first games
  • Only one provider

It’s pretty common for social casino apps to have games from just one provider, so while that is a con here, it’s not unexpected. If you enjoy the variety of lots of providers, social casinos might not be for you in general.

What’s really going for Big Fish is that it designs casino games for mobile, so while you can play on desktop, the format is fully catered for mobile devices. It’s a big plus for players who prefer playing on-the-go.

Payments rating

90/100 Easy payment options
  • Multiple chip and gold bundles
  • Multiple payment options
  • Good value purchase packs
  • No bank transfer available

Big Fish Casino does payments well. Accessing the payments section is easy, there are different options available, you can see them all at first glance, and payments information is available in the FAQs.

All of these are great points, and they make the payments experience much easier. I appreciated the choice of e-wallets. It’s so common to just find bank cards as the only option at social and sweepstakes casinos, but Big Fish gives you more than that.

The purchase packs on offer are good value, too. They’re not only giving you chips, but you’re getting a bunch of other bits, too, which all go towards enhancing your experience at Big Fish.

Safety features

Big Fish Casino uses 256-bit SSL encryption with ECDSA. There are no references to RNG audits or independent lab testing. Product Madness has been around for almost 20 years, producing mobile-first slot games, which should reassure players. There are no KYC processes at Big Fish. You can start playing as soon as you sign up.

Safety facts

There are two RG pages you can consult. The Product Madness RG page is found via the footer, and to learn about Big Fish’s RG approach, you can check out the FAQs page.

These two pages provide the same information, which includes tips for recognizing problematic gambling habits and steps you can take to limit your spending. There are also links for Smart Mobile Gamers and the National Institute of Mental Health.

There aren’t many tools offered by Big Fish or Product Madness. You can use the self-exclusion option, which will ban your account at your request. There isn’t any information on how long this lasts on the Product Madness page, but in the FAQs, it says the minimum is one year.

Big Fish also advises setting screen time reminders on your device and provides a link for both Apple and Android devices. There are also instructions to show you where to check your spending history on your device, and you’ll find links to help you disable app notifications and to limit your in-app purchases.

Safety rating

76/100 Limited RG tools and no reference to RNGs
  • RG page is available
  • Self-exclusion is available
  • Limited RG tools
  • RNGs not mentioned

Social casinos don’t typically have many RG tools, so having self-exclusion is better than no tools at all. Plus, Big Fish offers some useful information to help players understand what to look out for when it comes to problematic gambling.

However, when a platform offers the option to make purchases, I still believe purchasing limit tools are important. Setting these up on your device isn’t enough since these can be so easily worked around.

The level of encryption is great, and shows an investment on Big Fish’s part in app security, however what was lacking for me was a reference to RNGs or game auditing. Even if this is a social casino, with no redemptions or real money bets involved, players still want to know that the games they’re playing are fair and often well-balanced rewards.

Reaching out to support at Big Fish Casino

Customer support can be contacted using the live chat widget, found in the help center if you’re using the casino on desktop, and there’s also a ticket request system via the Product Madness website.

With both these methods, you’ll need to wait around 24 hours for a response. The live chat hours aren’t clear, but you’ll receive a response via email and on the chat widget when support reaches out.

You can also consult the FAQs in the help center. These cover RG, account, purchases, chips and gold, friends, gameplay, VIPs, and technical questions. There are several questions for each section, each with detailed answers. You can also find these in the live chat widget.

Support rating

75/100 Good quality support but slow response times
  • Live chat and ticketing requests
  • Good FAQs section
  • No phone/email support
  • 24-hour wait time for support

Support at Big Fish Casino was one of the better examples of support that I’ve come across at a social casino. I say this based on the quality of the support I experienced, not taking into consideration the long waiting times.

There’s a live chat widget, although it feels a bit redundant since it takes so long to get a response you can’t really call it “live”. Still, the support agents were always helpful and provided clear information. Plus, the FAQs have a lot of information available, so always check them out first before sending support a message.

Email support isn’t available, which I found was a bit strange, but you can put in a ticket request via Product Madness, which at least offers you another way of getting support

The usability of Big Fish Casino’s platform

Big Fish Casino is available via the App Store, Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, and Facebook. You can also play it on desktop, but it’ll still be displayed in a vertical window.

The app has bright colors and subtle animations that bring the app to life. This includes the vault opening, the XP bar filling up, and other small animations. There’s a background track that plays while the app is open, and the tune changes when you navigate to the VIP Slots section. There are some small sound effects, too. You can adjust the music and sound effects via the game settings.

Big Fish Casino screenshots

Navigation is simple since everything can be seen at first glance. At the button of the screen there are the store, clubs, lobby, treasures, and vault buttons. At the top, you can see your XP level, VIP tier, number of chips and gold bars. Plus there’s a shortcut to the store. If you click on your avatar, you can see your account profile.

Underneath this, there’s the settings button, which gives you options for game settings, account settings, game help, and RG. Next to that, there’s your inbox and your friends list. The friends list shows you suggested friends and all the players who are currently online.

Big Fish Casino doesn’t have a search bar, so games are found by scrolling horizontally through the list of games available. When using the desktop version on a laptop, the scrolling motion sticks some times, but it’s easier if you click and drag rather than sliding across your trackpad.

Usability rating

85/100 A straightforward social casino app
  • Playful design
  • Fast loading times
  • No search bar
  • No game filters

Product Madness has prioritized the usability of its app because getting around really was easy. You can see practically everything on first view, which is very useful and takes out all the guess work. Plus, the app has fast loading times and is available across different operating systems, so it’s easily accessible.

I also really appreciated that they kept the animations and sound effects to a minimum. There’s enough going on to make the app interesting and playful, but not too much that it distracts you from playing the games.

There isn’t a search bar, which some players might find annoying, and there are no game filters, either. With just 100+ games though, you don’t really need either of these to find a game to play. The scrolling was a bit frustrating, but I was testing Big Fish Casino on desktop, so on mobile it’s a different experience.
