Fishin’ Frenzy slot review summary

Fishin’ Frenzy is a quirky-looking slot, with cartoon-like visuals and simple animations. The background shows a simple underwater scene, which contrasts with the vibrant and brightly colored symbols. The small animations when there’s a win, like the pelican opening and closing its beak and the swimming fish, are a nice touch to liven up the game.

It’s a simple but endearing-looking game, with one straightforward bonus feature. A free spins round can be triggered with three Scatter symbols, awarding you with 10 free spins and the potential for bigger wins thanks to the Fisherman. The Fisherman symbol will collect any prize values attached to the fish symbols and add them to your final total.

It’s a good slot to get your feet wet and learn the mechanics of classic video slots, with the traditional 5×3 layout, an accessible bet range, and a friendly RTP of 96.12%.

Fishin’ Frenzy comprehensive review

My Fishin’ Frenzy slot review covers the slot’s RTP, volatility, the bonus features, and its symbols and payouts. I’ll also explain how the slot works and how to play it.

RTP and volatility

The Fishin’ Frenzy slot has an RTP of 96.12% and low to medium volatility. It’s played on a 5×3 grid with 10 paylines.

Symbols need to land on at least one of the 10 paylines for a win, and the symbols must be on adjacent reels.

Fishin’ Frenzy operates on a pretty classic slot model. Many slots work with the 5×3 format, which gives you a grid of 15 symbols to work with. This part of the game is fine.

What’s not great is the 10 paylines, which is on the low side. Fish N’ Fish by Red Tiger, for example, has 30 paylines, which makes a considerable difference. The number of paylines can even be as high as 100, like IGT’s Stinkin’ Rich.

The 10 paylines are why I think the volatility isn’t really low to medium, too. I very rarely hit any wins while testing out Fishin’ Frenzy, so I was surprised to find this is meant to be a low to medium volatility slot. Honestly, it plays more like a medium volatility slot.

Bonus features

Fishin’ Frenzy has one main bonus feature, which is free spins. This is triggered when at least three Scatter symbols land on the reels. The Scatter symbol is the boat sailing into the sunset.

Landing three Scatter symbols awards 10 free spins, landing four will award 15, and landing five will award 20 free spins. Free spins are played at the same bet value that you had during the base game, and additional free spins can’t be triggered during the free spins round.

The Fisherman symbol becomes active during the free spins round. This symbol has two roles. Firstly, it acts as a Wild and can substitute for any symbol to form a win. It also has its own payout values.

Secondly, the Fisherman symbol will catch and collect any prize values attached to the fish symbols during the free spins round. These are added to the final total of the round.

The thing about the bonus features on Fishin’ Frenzy is that we’ve seen them before. Pragmatic Play’s highly popular Big Bass Bonanza has identical bonus features, complete with fisherman.

The free spins also rarely trigger on Fishin’ Frenzy. In fact, during the three hours I was testing this slot, I didn’t land a free spins round once. Occasionally, I had two Scatter symbols, but never three. Having just one bonus feature that isn’t innovative and doesn’t trigger easily doesn’t enhance the overall experience.

Symbols and paytable

Fishin’ Frenzy has 11 symbols. That includes the five low-paying card symbols, the high-paying fishing symbols, the fish, and the fisherman.

The card symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. These have the same payout values. Landing three of a kind awards a payout worth 5x your bet, and five symbols pay out 100x.

The fish fall in between the lowest symbols and the middle range symbols. Any three fish will award a payout worth 10x your bet, and five will give you a payout of 200x. The middle of the road symbols are the life ring and the tackle box. These also have the same payouts, awarding a payout of 20x for three symbols and 500x for five.

The pelican and the fisherman are the highest paying symbols in the game, but the fisherman is only active during free spins rounds. The pelican can have a win with just two symbols, awarding a payout of 5x your bet. With five symbols, the payout is 2,000x.

The fisherman can also have a win with just two symbols, awarding a payout of 10x. With a win of five of a kind, the payout is 5,000x your bet.

The maximum win on Fishin’ Frenzy is 250,000x your bet.

Fishin’ Frenzy boasts some crazy payouts. To compare, Big Bass Bonanza has a maximum win of just 2,100x, and the highest-paying symbol will award a payout of 200x, which looks pretty small compared to Fishin’ Frenzy’s potential win of 5,000x.

The thing is, Fishin’ Frenzy has a tiny bet range, and when you run the numbers, the payouts are identical to Big Bass Bonanza’s. On Fishin’ Frenzy, the maximum bet is $10, and on Big Bass it’s $250. If you do the maths, that’s a maximum win of $50,000 on the highest paying symbol.

I don’t think you’ll see that kind of payoff with Fishin’ Frenzy, either, since it has such a low hit rate. It’s a shame, because there’s a lot of potential for an engaging slot with rewarding payouts here, but it just doesn’t deliver.

How to play the Fishin’ Frenzy slot

To get the reels spinning, hit the green spin button. To adjust your bet, you can use the up and down arrow keys above the bet value on the left of the grid to increase or decrease your bet. You can also press on the bet value to get the options.

The available betting options are $0.10, $0.20, $0.40, $0.80, $1.20, $1.60, $2.00, $4.00, $5.00, and $10.

An autoplay feature is available from the betting range shortcut. This isn’t always available and depends on your jurisdiction and casino. To set it up, select the number of autospins you want to play. The feature will stop automatically when the spins finish or if you win any free spins. You can also set a loss limit.

On the bottom left of the grid, there’s the menu button. This contains the paytable, mute button, and player instructions. At the bottom of the game window, from left to right, there’s your current balance, the bet value per line, and your current total bet.

The bet value per line increases as your bet increases. It starts out at 0.01 before increasing to 0.02, 0.04, 0.08, 0.12, 0.16, 0.20, 0.40, 0.50, and 1.00.

Expert verdict

Fishin’ Frenzy is not a slot for experienced players or high-rollers. Despite the high win potential, the low bet range would be frustrating for high-rollers. Plus, many players would be looking for more engaging and dynamic bonus features, which Fishin’ Frenzy doesn’t have.

This slot would be great for new players who are testing the slot waters for the first time. The low bet range provides greener players with room to test the waters without playing a high-risk game, allowing them to understand the basic slot mechanics. There’s also the free spins feature to work with.

Plus, Fishin’ Frenzy has a friendly RTP of 96.12%. While the volatility is also friendly at low to medium, I didn’t experience low volatility with this slot. Therefore, I’d advise caution and to go slow with your bets to make sure you’re not caught out.
