Jammin’ Jars slot summary review

With crisp visuals and high-octane action courtesy of unique bonus features, Jammin’ Jars takes the classic fruit-machine genre and flips it on its head. It carries the same chaotic energy and high-volatility punch that many Push Gaming titles are known for.

Aside from the free spins round, the base game also includes roaming Wilds and the Rainbow Feature, with the latter randomly rewarding you during winless streaks.

Despite these engaging elements, high volatility means you can expect long spells where nothing happens. But when those clusters do start piling up, especially with progressive multipliers involved, your payout potential can shoot up pretty fast.

An above-average RTP also helps to balance things out, while its massive win potential is more than enough to make this game worth your while.

Pros

  • 19,998.5x max win

  • 96.83% RTP

  • Cluster pays

Cons

  • Long winless streaks

  • Bonus Buy lowers RTP

  • Big clusters rarely hit without bonus features

Jammin’ Jars comprehensive review

In my Jammin’ Jars slot review, I’ll be analysing and laying out the game’s core features, including its cluster mechanics and bonus elements. This extends to its RTP, volatility, and what its payout symbols are.

RTP and volatility

The Jammin’ Jars RTP has a rating of 96.83%, but drops slightly to 96.49% if you activate the Bonus Buy feature which manually triggers the free spins bonus round.

Instead of traditional paylines, the 8×8 grid slot runs on a cluster-based system with tumbling reels. Volatility remains high throughout the game.

The Jammin’ Jars RTP sits comfortably above the industry average of 96%, offering steady returns over time. However, it was disappointing to see that if you choose to use the Bonus Buy feature, the game punishes you by lowering the RTP in the bonus round.

On the bright side, during testing, the game’s high volatility felt right on the money. After 250 spins, my hit rate of 19.2% included a few notable wins along the way. Bear in mind, this didn’t include additional wins generated through tumbling reels.

During this 250-spin test run, the bonus game was triggered once, which is also when I received the biggest payout in relation to bet per spin ($17.08 from a stake of $0.40).

Bonus features

Jammin’ Jars is home to three main bonus features that mostly center around the Jam Jar, a dual-purpose symbol that acts as a Wild and Scatter icon.

This means that not only does it substitute for all other symbols, but it’s also key to unlocking the free spins bonus game. However, before that, these Jam Jar symbols also play a key role during the base game.

If a Wild Jam Jar forms part of a winning combination, it moves to a new position on the grid for the next tumble. These roaming Wilds also come with progressive multipliers that increase in value by 1x after every winning cascade.

There’s no limit to how high these multipliers can climb, but once no more winning cascades are found, the grid resets and your multipliers restart from zero on the next spin.

The second bonus element is known as the Rainbow Feature. Triggered randomly during any non-winning spin, a giant rainbow sweeps across the board and adds one or two giant fruits to the grid.

These giant fruit symbols behave as massive clusters and typically range in size from 3×3 up to 6×6. If another matching fruit symbol touches the expanded cluster, the symbols combine into one larger winning combination that often kicks off further cascades.

Finally, we have the Free Games Feature in which the Jam Jars come back into play. If up to three Jam Jars appear on the grid at the same time, they first act as roaming Wilds until no more winning cascades are found. After this, the slot transitions into the bonus game, awarding you with six free spins and the same three Jam Jar symbols.

Just like in the base game, these Jam Jar Scatters resume the role of roaming Wilds, where they will continue to move position and increase their multipliers after every winning cascade. The key difference here is that these Jam Jars remain on the grid until the end of the feature, keeping their accumulated multipliers until all free spins are complete.

You can also manually trigger the Free Games Feature by selecting the Bonus Buy option represented by a star icon located on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, away from the reels. The cost for manually triggering the bonus game is 84x your stake.

With not one but two bonus features within the base game, Jammin’ Jars does a great job of keeping players entertained. Rather than waiting around for the Free Games Feature to trigger, or relying on the Bonus Buy option, I always felt that the odds of triggering some fun mechanic were pretty good.

However, how it feels and what actually plays out can be two very different things. In fact, the slot’s high volatility means you can expect some very long dry spells where nothing really happens. And while the Bonus Buy option guarantees entry into the Free Games Feature, this actually lowers the RTP and doesn’t always result in big returns.

On the flip side, the Rainbow Feature really gives you the sense that even bad spins can turn into opportunities. However, the real standouts for me were the progressive multipliers that can keep climbing.

Watching those roaming Wilds stack higher and higher kept things exciting and suspenseful. So, while there are things to poke holes at, the bonus elements in this game are engaging, fun, and packed with potential.

Symbols and paytable

Jammin’ Jars is made up of just six fruit symbols. In ascending order of value, these fruit symbols consist of blueberries, blackcurrants, green apples, raspberries, oranges and finally, the slot’s highest paying fruit, strawberries.

Winning combinations are based on clusters and are formed with a minimum of five matching symbols that line up horizontally and vertically, but never diagonally. Payouts increase according to the size of your cluster. Once you reach 10 matching symbols, clusters are grouped together into defined payout brackets.

For instance, 10 matching symbols offers the same payout as 11. The same goes for 12-14, 15-19, and 20-24. Payouts stop increasing in value once you hit 25 or more matching symbols.

For reference, five blueberries (the slot’s lowest paying symbol) return 0.1x of your stake. In contrast, 25 matching symbols of the highest paying fruit, strawberries, pays 100x your stake.

With its cluster-based mechanics and up to 25 matching payout symbols, Jammin’ Jars makes for a dynamic and unpredictable slot that’s capable of getting you multiple wins in quick succession.

However, you’d be surprised how long you can go without hitting a winning combination. From my own experience, I seldom hit anything higher than clusters of 12, with most of my hits ranging between five and eight symbols.

This is not necessarily a criticism but more of a reality check. It stands to reason that the higher the number is, the less likely the outcome will be. However, when those larger clusters do hit, the payouts can be substantial.

Still though, unless aided by bonus features, those 25-symbol wins feel as though they are there more for show than for any realistic expectation.

How to play Jammin’ Jars

Once you load up the game, start by setting your preferred bet per spin amount. On desktop, click the small arrow button sandwiched between the Total Bet and Win indicators below the reels.

This opens up the betting menu with twelve preset betting options ranging from $0.20 up to $100 per spin. On the left-hand side of your screen, you’ll also notice a side panel with separate icons that will allow you to sift through different options such as game info, settings, and autoplay options.

To view the paytable and symbol payout values, press the grid icon located in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. From there, you can use the side panel to access game info. The same panel also includes the gear icon that lets you adjust sound effects, music, and toggle Turbo Mode on and off.

Finally, players looking to skip straight to the action can use the Bonus Buy option. Represented by a lone star icon, this option manually triggers the Free Games Feature at 84x your stake.

Expert verdict

Bright colors, crisp visuals, and funky beats give Jammin’ Jars a chaotic energy that’s hard not to love. These elements blend seamlessly with its cluster-mechanic, roaming Wilds, and other innovative features to create a slot that’s both engaging and genuinely fun. Its modern take on the fruit theme is refreshing, and far removed from early online versions that drew inspiration from old brick-and-mortar machines.

However, I felt this chaotic energy can at times be heavily offset by high volatility, with extended lulls in play where nothing happens. Also, don’t expect to see huge cluster wins of 14 or more symbols too often without the aid of bonus elements.

If you’re after something a little more laid-back and traditional, Starburst by NetEnt is a low-volatility, fruit-themed slot that is often considered a modern classic.
