Expert verdict

EggOMatic delivers visually, with a retro robotic farm theme, and detailed robotic chickens determining your payouts. When I looked into this slot more closely, however, I found it doesn’t deliver as well from a technical perspective.

The slot’s RTP is 96.48%, which is above average, and it has medium volatility. Despite that, EggOMatic has a low hit rate, performing much more like a high volatility slot. This, combined with the low payouts, makes it difficult to sustain a long-term game.

EggOMatic’s betting range is $0.20–$200. This is a good range, but when you pair it with the slot’s low hit rate, and small average payouts, playing higher bets becomes a risky task as your budget will drain faster than you can maintain it.

When it comes to bonus features, EggOMatic has an innovative way of delivering them, through feature eggs that crack open if they land directly above the Wild Rooster. Although that’s cute, the feature eggs aren’t activated frequently. The Free Spins egg is also pretty rare, making free spins hard to come by.

Looking at all this, EggOMatic is a slot that’s accessible to all players, thanks to the bet range and straightforward gameplay, but proceed with caution. There’s a high-risk element that high-rollers might enjoy, but it’s better to pace yourself before hitting max bet. For more casual players with a smaller budget, stick to smaller bets to play within your means.

EggOMatic slot payouts: volatility and RTP

NetEnt’s EggOMatic slot RTP sits at 96.48%, with medium volatility. There are 20 paylines, and the slot has a maximum win of 94,750 coins.

Wins are displayed in coins on the main screen, with the currency win displayed underneath the game window. A bet line win in currency is calculated as the win in coins multiplied by the coin value.

EggOMatic has 10 robotic chicken symbols. The lowest-paying symbols are the small colored chicks. In ascending order, these are the yellow, blue, green, pink, and red chicks.

All the chicks award just five coins for three symbols, paying out $0.05 on a bet of $0.20. The yellow and blue chicks award the lowest payouts overall, awarding 50 coins for five symbols, whereas the red chick awards 75. That’s a payout of $0.75 when the bet is set to the minimum.

The high-paying symbols are a series of chickens that each get bigger with every payout. There’s the sad brown chicken, the blue chicken, the green chicken with glasses, the pink hen with a heart on its chest, and the red rooster with a crown on its tail.

The red rooster is the highest paying symbol in EggOMatic. This symbol awards 30 coins for three symbols and 1,000 coins for five. When the bet is set to $0.20, that’s a payout of $10 for five coins. At the same bet, the pink hen awards a payout of $7 for five symbols.

Payouts rating

80/100 Small base game payouts and a low hit rate
  • Max win of 94,750 coins
  • 96.48% RTP
  • Small base game payouts
  • Low hit rate

When I saw EggOMatic had an RTP of 96.48% and medium volatility, I was optimistic as that’s usually a combination that pays off well. Unfortunately, EggOMatic has a low hit rate that feels like high volatility. That, paired with small average base game payouts, makes it a game that’s difficult to sustain playing long term, especially at maximum bet.

When moving from a bet of $200 to $2, my average wins went from $50 to $0.50. Some were a little bigger at $3, $7.50, and $11, although the latter two were helped by Coin Win eggs. Over the days I spent testing this game, I never landed big enough wins to keep playing at maximum bet, and always ended up lowering my bet to keep myself in the game.

A medium volatility slot with a much higher hit rate is Immortal Romance. It has a slightly higher RTP of 96.86% and 243 ways to win. On average, the slot pays out more frequently with bigger payouts than EggOMatic.

EggOMatic stake limits

EggOMatic’s betting range is $0.20–$200. The bet is adjusted by increasing the bet level and coin value. There are 10 bet levels, and the coin values are 0.01, 0.02, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20, 0.50, and 1.00.

With this slot machine, you first choose the coin value, ranging from 0.01 to 1.00. Then, you need to set the level. The lowest level multiplies the wager by 20, while the largest multiplies it by 200.

Stake limits rating

85/100 Excellent for low-stakes players
  • 20 paylines
  • Bet range of $0.20–$200
  • Not well-suited for high-risk players
  • Maximum bet not ideal for smaller budgets

Although there are slots with a lower starting bet than $0.20, with the way this slot works you wouldn’t want to go lower. On the minimum bet, the smallest payout you can receive is $0.05, which is 4x less than the bet. If you were to bet less, you’d hardly win anything at all.

EggOMatic’s bet range is accessible to all players. Adjusting your bet is easy and bets increase in small increments. That being said, if you want to up your bet, it’s better to start slow. A maximum bet of $200 sounds good, but because of the slot’s low hit rate and low average wins, it wasn’t enough to refill my bankroll, so I often ran out of money on just a few spins.

If you’re not an experienced player or have a smaller budget, I recommend increasing your bet with caution or avoiding playing on max bet at all. If you’re looking for a wider betting range, you might want to try Habanero’s Laughing Buddha. It has a slightly higher minimum bet of $0.28 but a maximum bet of $1,400..

Bonus features on EggOMatic

There are six bonus features on EggOMatic. There’s the Wild Rooster, the EggOMatic and Conveyor Belt, and four feature eggs.

The Wild Rooster symbol is a blue rooster, holding a sign that says Wild. It substitutes for the highest possible winning combination on a bet line. It also activates any feature eggs if they are directly above the Wild Rooster.

The feature eggs are released by the EggOMatic machine, which is found on the right side of the grid. This machine produces these eggs randomly, and the Conveyor Belt moves them one reel to the left with every spin.

The four feature eggs are the Spreading Wild egg, the Free Spins egg, the Coin Win Egg, and the Surprise Egg. The Spreading Wild egg is a blue egg with a “W” in the middle and 4 red arrows around it. This egg substitutes for all symbols except the Wild Rooster. When it’s activated, all the adjacent and diagonal symbols near the Wild Rooster are turned into additional Wilds.

The Free Spins egg is a green egg with two circular arrows on the front. When it’s activated, the free spins round is triggered. You can be awarded between seven and 50 free spins. If another Free Spins egg is triggered during the free spins round, further free spins can be awarded and will be played out after the initial free spins have finished.

During the free spins round, the EggOMatic machine produces five feature eggs so that there’s one above every reel. With every spin, an egg is removed from the Conveyor Belt, but the EggOMatic machine immediately replaces it.

Coin Win eggs are gold with a win amount on the front. If these eggs are activated by the Wild Rooster, the coin win amount on the front of the egg is multiplied by the bet level in addition to any winning bet lines. The coin win amounts are adjusted according to your bet level.

The Surprise egg is a multicolored egg with a question mark on the front. When this egg is activated by the Wild Rooster, one of the other feature eggs is awarded.

Bonus features rating

78/100 Eggciting bonus features that don’t land often
  • Innovative delivery of bonus features
  • Free spins, Wilds, and multipliers
  • Free spins are infrequent
  • Bonus features don’t trigger often

EggOMatic has a good selection of bonus features. More than that, though, I liked the way bonus features are awarded in EggOMatic. It’s fun and engaging to have the bonus features cracked open by the Wild Rooster.

The issue with this mechanic, however, is that even if the feature eggs appear on the Conveyor Belt often, the odds of the egg lining up directly with a Wild Rooster aren’t that high. You have five spins to hopefully claim that feature egg, but there’s no guarantee.

The free spins were also a bit disappointing. In EggOMatic you can be awarded up to 50 free spins, which is great. In my time spent playing the slot, however, I was awarded a free spins round once. The Free Spins egg doesn’t appear often, and the likelihood that rare egg lines up with the Wild Rooster is small.

The Coin Win eggs seemed to appear the most often, and they’re a good egg because they give you an immediate cash prize. I did get the Spreading Wild egg quite a few times, and this can be the most lucrative of all the eggs since it transforms so many symbols into Wilds.

Overall, the bonus features are good, but they don’t land often enough to affect the game. Considering the slot has an above-average RTP and medium volatility, I expected the bonus features to be triggered more frequently.

If you’re looking for a slot where the bonus features are easier to come by, try Cleopatra. It has similar bonus features to EggOMatic, but it can award up to 180 free spins. In addition to that, all wins are tripled during free spins.

Audio and visuals of EggOMatic

EggOMatic has a quirky and colorful factory theme. The robot chicken coop is brought to life by a lot of smaller details in the design and animations. The chickens and roosters are all 3D designs, while the other elements in the game are 2D.

Each of the chicken symbols has its own 3D animations, such as the smaller chicks splitting in half and releasing coins when they form part of a win, or the pink hen turning round and lifting its tail feathers. The chickens are all electrocuted briefly when they form part of a winning bet line or just randomly between spins.

Other animations include steam rising from the EggOMatic machine, the eggs being released from the EggOMatic machine and moving along the Conveyor Belt, and lights running between the reels.

When you press the information button, an old-school projector screen pops up displaying the paytable. This includes a few sketches of schematics of parts of the game, like the Wild Rooster. While the screen is on display, there’s a whirring sound in the background of the projector running.

EggOMatic has a gentle, whimsical original background track that plays throughout the game. It works well with the game sounds, which include the buzzes of electrocution, whirring, and clangs from the machinery, and the rumbling of the EggOMatic. Unfortunately, the background track isn’t used in the mobile version.

Audiovisuals rating

74/100 Quirky and unique slot theme
  • Detailed features
  • Appropriate game sounds
  • Graphics are glitchy at times
  • No background music on mobile

NetEnt is known for its innovative slot themes and detailed audiovisuals. EggOMatic is no different, with all the small details in this game going towards storytelling and making this an immersive slot.

I liked that everything going on in this slot is happening at just the right amount. Some slots are excessively detailed, and even though EggOMatic is a rich slot, it’s not excessive. For instance, the EggOMatic machine releases steam randomly for a brief time. It fills pauses in the game and makes the factory feel more alive. The chickens on the reels are randomly electrocuted, which is funny and makes me think of a cartoon.

Another detail I appreciated was making the lower-paying symbols multi-colored chicks. So many slots out there will resort to using card symbols, but with EggOMatic the chicks are consistent with the theme and are unique.

This is why I think the gentle background track works so well. It’s not looking to overpower all the other important elements in the slot, as that would make it too busy. There’s already a lot of color and regular, even if small, animations. The background track is smooth and adds the right atmosphere.

Which is also why I found it a bit odd that the background music doesn’t play at all on the mobile version. The slot sounds like an echoing factory in the mobile version, with only the clangs of the machine and the puffing of steam making any sound.

Even though EggOMatic was released in 2013, the details and animations in this slot are good enough to stand up against some of the more modern slots coming out today. Some of the animations aren’t as smooth as newer slots out there, but that doesn’t detract from my experience when playing this slot.

EggOMatic game layout

NetEnt’s EggOMatic has a 5×3 grid layout with 20 paylines. The game is played by pressing the green spin button in the middle of the dashboard. To play at maximum bet, players can press the Max Bet button on the right of the spin button. The coin value is on the right of that and can be adjusted using the arrows. The number of coins available to play is displayed on the far right.

On the left of the spin button, there’s the autoplay button, the bet level, and the current bet value. The bet level is adjusted using the arrows. On top of the bet level is the information button, where players can access the paytable.

In autoplay, players can have up to 1,000 autospins, and the minimum is 10. There are also advanced autoplay settings, allowing players to stop autoplay on any win or if free spins are won. Autoplay can also stop on a single win, balance increases, or balance decreases, according to a value that players can set for themselves. Autoplay can also be set up from the Auto button underneath the game window.

Next to the Auto button, there’s another button to access the game rules, another to adjust the game volume, and the settings button. The settings button has the options for quick spin, using the spacebar for spins, and to switch off the raise bet screen and intro screen.

When switching to mobile, while the slot runs smoothly, the grid is small in both portrait and landscape mode.

Game layout rating

90/100 Great game layout but the mobile version could be better
  • Autoplay with additional settings
  • Quick spin feature
  • Slot doesn’t adjust well to mobile

EggOMatic performs well when it comes to its game layout. Like most NetEnt slots, the slot is clean and simple to use. Instructions and the paytable can be found quickly, with all the necessary details, so players can get started quickly.

I was pleased to find that the autoplay has several additional settings that give players the freedom to customize when they want autoplay to stop. That, plus you can have up to 1,000 autospins, was great to see. The quick spin is also important because the base game does run a bit slow, so the quick spin feature cuts down on animations and moves things along.

The area I was most disappointed with when it came to game layout was when I tried EggOMatic on mobile. Typically, slots tend to look great in portrait but are too small in landscape mode; however, with EggOMatic, it was both portrait and landscape modes that had issues.

In portrait mode, half the screen is dedicated to the spin button, which makes hitting spin comfortable, but the grid is too small. In landscape mode, the buttons are more appropriately sized, but the grid is still too small.

EggOMatic is one of NetEnt’s older slot games, so mobile adaptations weren’t as good as they are now. I would have liked to see NetEnt update the slot so that it works on all devices, especially when many players use their mobile phones for online casino games these days. If you’re a player who needs to play on the go, another slot from NetEnt that runs great on mobile is Finn and the Swirly Spin.
